Warning! Spoilers for Avengers Forever #1 by Marvel Comics

With Marvel’s newest Ant-Man stuck between Mjolnir and a hard place, the hero just came up with the perfect way to get out from under the mighty enchanted hammer. In Avengers Forever #1 by Marvel Comics, Tony Stark from a different universe ends up trying to lift Mjolnir, nearly killing himself after trying to raise it. Thankfully, he was able to shrink himself away from danger.

Marvel’s new Avengers Forever series takes readers across the Multiverse, as Robbie Reyes ends up on a new Earth that has been ravaged and nearly destroyed. In the reality, Tony Stark never became Iron Man, but instead, a troubled childhood led him to become the Invincible Ant-Man. Much like Earth-616’s Ant-Man, Stark can shrink down in size as he pleases using his “Stark Particles.” However, after encountering a version of Mjolnir and trying to lift it and become Worthy, he needed all the help he could get in making sure he wasn’t crushed under the weight of the powerful hammer.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In Avengers Forever #1 by Jason Aaron, Aaron Kuder, Cam Smith, Jason Keith, Triona Farrell, and VC’s Cory Petit, Tony Stark successfully escapes getting chased by a group of Venomized ants. After going deeper underground, the archaeologist finds Mjolnir and is shocked to run into the weapon he believed had only been a myth. So naturally, Stark tries to pick up the hammer and succeeds in lifting in the air, creating a powerful thunderstorm around him. However, the hammer gets heavier as he’s lifting it and ends up falling on top of him on the ground. Ant-Man realizes the hammer is crushing him and acts fast – making himself smaller to slip under it at the last second.

Stark is mystified he was able to briefly lift the hammer, admitting he’s pretty freaked out that he was able to pick Mjolnir up in the first place. To study the hammer further, he shrinks it down to size, allowing his robotic ant to carry it back to his lab.

Avengers Forever quickly establishes this version of Tony Stark is reckless, as he monologues about nearly drowning in his own puke after shrinking himself while drunk. So, it’s no surprise he tried to lift Mjolnir and nearly killed himself in the process. Thankfully, Ant-Man was able to shrink down before Mjolnir crushed his body. It proved to be a great way to evade the mighty hammer, but if Tony Stark’s Ant-Man died, it would have been one of the most embarrassing deaths in Marvel Comics history. Avengers Forever #1 is in comic book stores now.
