10 Actors Who Should Play The Silver Surfer In The MCU, According To Reddit

With the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe underway, it has already made the cinematic debut of popular Marvel superheroes like Shang-Chi and The Eternals. But it also promises to bring back characters into the MCU after their outings from other studios like Blade and the Fantastic Four.

With the introduction of Celestials and the cosmic side of this franchise and building upon these foundations over the years, fans might see the Silver Surfer make his first cinematic appearance since 2007. Reddit, however, has some ideas about what form the Herald of Galactus could take if he surfed his way, so to speak, to the MCU.

Paul Bettany

This may seem to be an odd choice as Vision is one of Paul Bettany’s most iconic roles and with the introduction of White Vision in WandaVision, it doesn’t seem too likely that he would play the Silver Surfer as well. But actors have been cast in multiple roles across the series including Gemma Chan and Kenneth Choi.

Reddit user Mnemosense thinks that Bettany would make a great actor for the role, especially with his initial introduction as Marvel’s advanced android. “His portrayal of Vision, especially in Age of Ultron reminded me of the grace, compassion, and imposing intelligence of the Surfer.”

Viggo Mortenson

Many actors who played key roles from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies eventually made their way to the MCU including Andy Serkis, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Evangeline Lily just to name a few. But one of the big ones yet to make his way is Viggo Mortenson, who played the heroic Aragorn.

And it looks like cap1206 is on the same page and also wants to see the celebrated actor finally make his appearance. They “call Vigo for Silver Surfer” and could potentially be a good fit as Mortenson has shown to transform into his character’s shoes in many movies.

Rami Malek

The academy award-winning actor has certainly grabbed a lot of audiences’ attention after he won an Academy Award with his performance as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. He also played the big bad in No Time To Die as well as Elliot Alderson in the hit Amazon series Mr. Robot.

After playing these different characters over the years, Ades4Life believes that he could be a great casting choice for Marvel’s cosmic entity. “Rami Malek would make a cool Silver Surfer” and he definitely would be a curious choice to bring to the ensemble cast.

Matt Smith

Whovians shouldn’t be surprised to see one of the best actors to play the Doctor finally appearing on this list. Despite still being known as the Time Lord, he has tried to make it in other movies and television shows like The Crown and Last Night In Soho.

And perhaps an appearance in the MCU will see him be acknowledged away from the global BBC series. TheDonutDevil said that “first I thought maybe Matt Smith, but I think he’d make a better Kang.” As their entry is four years old and Jonathan Majors has already fulfilled the role of Kang in Loki, perhaps their first thoughts might become a reality.

Zachary Quinto

Known as Spock to a new generation of Star Trek fans, Zachary Quinto has demonstrated his ability as an actor time and time again. From his villainous break-out role as Sylar in Heroes to the seemingly friendly Chad and evil Dr. Thredson in American Horror Story, Quinto can brilliantly blend into the role.

Reddit user ksa331 simple post of “Zachary Quinto as Silver Surfer” alongside some photos did prove to be popular among the fans. From recommendations of his roles to key discussions of why he’d be a great candidate, it seems that it certainly sparked some interest from the fans in the comment section.

Riz Ahmed

This British actor never plays the same role twice and always seems to appear in different genres with each movie. In the past few years alone, he starred as a drummer in the drama Sound of Metal, the big bad in Venom, and was one of the starring rebels in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Hermessum thinks that Riz Ahmed would be a great choice to play “the lonely, Nobel-eyed, kind-hearted, Hamlet-of-the-infinite-Marvel-Cosmos.” And with association with both a Disney and a Marvel property already, he could be a great actor for the role.

Alan Tudyk

One of the stars of the cult sci-fi series, Firefly, Alan Tudyk’s ability to change his voice has been demonstrated across the Disney animated movies as he has played some of his funniest roles since Wreck-It Ralph. Furthermore, he is the star of the comedy television series, Resident Alien.

Perhaps not the biggest name nor the most recognizable on the list, it is one that Grumpybear911 acknowledges. “I’m going with an odd one and picking Alan Tudyk for the role” of Silver Surfer could play out very well as, much like Riz Ahmed, he is no stranger to Disney and their Star Wars movies as the droid K-2SO in Rogue One.

Jessica Chastain

Perhaps more well known for appearing in dramas, 23_GenericRedittor put “Jessica Chastain” in the top spot for their list. The actor hasn’t shied away from her roles in other genres from popular directors. Recently appearing in The 355, she has also faced off against Pennywise in It: Chapter 2 and starred in Ridley Scott’s The Martian.

And she could join the other female stars who have played gender-swapped versions of iconic characters who were initially male in the comics. From Salma Hayak to Tilda Swinton to Hannah John-Kamen, the MCU has never shied away to change and if Chastain plays the Silver Surfer, it could be the next big casting news.

Sterling K. Brown

Fans of Black Panther will undoubtedly recognize this face as he briefly played N’Jobu, Killmonger’s father and T’Challa’s uncle as well as being his best role by Rotten Tomatoes ranking. But actors have been recast across the MCU before and with his repertoire from performing in hit television shows and movies, perhaps he will make his return to the series.

Level-Rip-8507 thinks that using advanced filmmaking technology could convince audiences. By using “heavy motion capture” they believe that “Sterling K. Brown would be great for this role.” And with the suggestion of using this type of advanced filmmaking could be done for the actor and, hopefully, have a longer stay in the MCU this time around.

Keanu Reeves

Perhaps easily one of the biggest suggestions to be cast as the Silver Surfer, Keanu Reeves seems to be the most popular pick. With his portrayal as the dog-loving assassin John Wick and human savior Neo from The Matrix series, he could have what it takes to bring the character to life.

This Reddit user (who seems to have been [deleted]), believes that “Keanu Reeves as Silver Surfer” would make a great casting decision alongside their choice of “Liam Neeson as Galactus.” While this pair may not come to fruition, Reeves seems to be a fan favorite choice to become this popular Marvel character.
