Phase 4 is being ushered into the Marvel Cinematic Universe which means that a wide range of new heroes will be joining the ranks of the Avengers or perhaps even forming their own teams. Thus far, the MCU has been largely based around characters who live within North America.

However, with a wide world of other Marvel Comics lore to explore, there are many other locations that this big-screen landscape can build from. Great Britain is home to some of the most inventive and intriguing heroes in the comics. These characters are being brought to the forefront of the source material once more with titles such as Excalibur and The Union; this is perhaps a sign of what’s to come in the MCU.

10 The Black Knight

The Black Knight is one of Marvel’s oldest heroes and has actually been a villain in the past as well. A notable Avenger and a character that has been framed on both the side of good and evil, a version of Black Knight might already be on their way into the MCU.

It appears that Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington will be playing Black Knight in Marvel’s Eternals. The trailer showed fans the character for the first time, with the assumption being that Harington will be playing the Dane Whitman iteration of the hero.

9 Union Jack

Among Marvel’s most iconic heroes from across the pond is Union Jack, another character who has served as part of the Avengers and is a real veteran of the game. He is currently trying to lead the Union, a brand new batch of British heroes, in a new ongoing title.

The character has a long history in the comics too, considering the original iteration was part of the Howling Commandos; James Montgomery Falsworth already appears in the MCU as an ancestor to the character. The most well-known version is the current Joseph Chapman.

8 Britannia

Britannia is a recent hero who has been built with a strong legacy despite her seemingly unfortunate fate. The hero has been pitched as one of Britain’s most experienced warriors, having protected the nation for many years, despite how young she appears to be.

As the original leader of the Union, she has clearly been shown to be an expert tactician and extremely competent with this kind of responsibility. As Marvel begins to build out their international scene of heroes, Britannia is an exciting addition who could quickly make a big impact.

7 Psylocke

Psylocke will be well known to fans as a Mutant and member of the X-Men, having previously appeared onscreen outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her history is a lot more complicated than that though since Elizabeth “Betsy” Braddock is the twin sister of Brian Braddock, Captain Britain.

Psylocke has assumed the role herself on numerous occasions and the two have formed the backbone of the team known as Excalibur. The telekinetic warrior is a vital part of the British superhero tapestry and one with huge potential when it comes to a big-screen adaptation.

6 Captain Britain

The other notable Captain Britain is Brian Braddock, whose ancestor may have previously been mentioned by Agent Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Braddock embodies everything it is to be a hero and is in many ways the British reflection of Captain America.

He has taken on a number of other aliases over the years, including Black Knight, interestingly, and is one of the most vital heroes from the nation; one that is extremely important to bring to screen if Marvel is going down that path. He has been involved in countless intriguing stories, from being a crusader to creating his own Captain Britain Corps.

5 Merlin

The magical side of the Marvel Universe is about to blow up thanks to the combination of Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange. With Morgana Le Fay having previously appeared in Marvel’s Runaways it wouldn’t be too surprising to see another English myth show up.

Merlin has been a huge part of Marvel history, helping some of Britain’s biggest heroes find their way through the mystical problems they may face. Portrayed in a typical wizarding manner, Merlin is one of the most powerful sorcerers in all of Marvel and would be a lot of fun to see onscreen.

4 Bloodstone

Marvel is home to monsters, that much is certainly known. Of course, the MCU is already gearing up for the vampire hunter known as Blade, who also has British origins in the comics. There’s perhaps room for one more, though — the Bloodstone family.

While her father is also a well-known beast slayer, it’s Elsa Bloodstone who is the most interesting part of the family’s legacy. As a monster hunter in her own right, it would be a treat to see her brought in alongside Blade or perhaps a character like Morbius.

3 Spider-UK

The Spider-Verse seems to be front and center as the Multiverse, in general, is about to explode in the MCU. Fans are speculating about which versions of the Web-Head might appear in future Spidey installments, but one addition that may be worth having is that of Spider-UK.

One of the many Spider-Men from across the Multiverse, this is another Braddock who protects the United Kingdom using his web-slinging abilities. With a great costume and a compelling narrative as the rookie begins to learn the ropes, there’s definitely a place for Spider-UK on the big screen.

2 Spitfire

There are very few speedsters in the Marvel Universe. With Quicksilver having been already killed onscreen, there’s definitely room for a new person to portray these kinds of abilities. The British hero Spitfire might be the answer in this case.

Another member of the Falsworth family and therefore already linked into the MCU, she was initially introduced as a member of the Invaders, actually replacing Union Jack. Her legacy is therefore extremely long and such an iconic hero could be a great fit for Phase 4.

1 Excalibur

Excalibur could be referring to a few different things. It may be the previously mentioned X-Men spin-off team who serve in Great Britain; it could be the famous sword from mythology. However, there’s also a character called Excalibur who wields that great blade.

Dr. Faiza Hussain is a healer and a fighter, wielding the famous sword in battle after being granted the gift by Merlin. She’s one of Marvel’s most compelling modern heroes and is certainly on the verge of being a megastar. She’s also a member of MI-13, the heroic espionage group that protects the UK from unknown threats.
