With the recent release of DC’s newest comic book movie, The Batman, as well as Marvel’s newest Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, what better time to take a look at some of the best comic book films of all time, according to the thousands of cinephiles that cast their votes at Ranker?

The Batman is written and directed by Matt Reeves and stars Robert Pattinson in the titular role of Bruce Wayne/Batman as well as Paul Dano, and Zoe Kravitz. 9 Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the second film in the Captain America MCU film franchise and is about Steve Rogers struggling to embrace his new role in the modern world as he teams up with Black Widow to stop a deadly assassin known as the Winter Soldier.

The film stars Chris Evans in the titular role of Captain America/Steve Rogers as well as Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Sebastian Stan. Fans often cite this as one of the best Captain America films largely due to the film containing some of the best and most entertaining Captain America scenes in all of the MCU.

8 Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame is the epic finale of the MCU’s Avengers series. The film is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and directly follows the events of the previous Avengers movie as the group of superheroes struggles to deal with the aftermath of Thanos’ actions and reverse what he did to hopefully restore balance in the universe.

Avengers: Endgame features incredible performances by the entire cast, specifically Robert Downey Jr. and Josh Brolin. The movie smashed box-office records and was a fan favorite among the MCU.

7 Iron Man

Iron Man is an iconic film in the MCU as it truly served as a springboard for the rest of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, and was the first superhero film included in the Universe as well as the anchor and main protagonist for most of the beginning phases of the MCU.

The film is about billionaire and genius Tony Stark creating a weaponized suit of armor to fight evil. Iron Man is directed by Jon Favreau and features iconic performances from Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, and Terrance Howard.  The movie was so successful with fans that many have even stated that the MCU’s movie portrayal of the character is even better than the comics.

6 Logan

Logan is the most recent portrayal or iteration, and ultimately the finale, of popular X-Men characters Professor X and Wolverine. The film is about an elderly and weary Logan living out a quiet life as a young and extremely dangerous mutant child seeks out his help because she’s being pursued by dangerous scientists.

Logan is directed by James Mangold and features absolutely incredible performances by Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart in their final portrayals of Wolverine and Professor X. In fact, many fans have cited this as being one of the best adaptations of Professor X as well.

5 Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok is the third film in the MCU’s Thor franchise and is about Thor racing against time to stop Ragnarok, the destruction of his world, at the hands of his ruthless and extremely powerful sister Hela. The film is directed by Taika Waititi and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, and Mark Ruffalo.

4 Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: Civil War is the third film in the Captain America series, and is a big movie in the MCU as it sees the Avengers breaking up and fighting each other rather than together. The movie is about political involvements in the Avenger’s affairs causing a rift in the group as everyone chooses sides and Captain America and Iron Man.

The film is almost more like an Avengers movie than a Captain America movie due to the large number of superheroes and stars in the movie. Captain America: Civil War is by far the best Captain America movie and one of the best movies in the MCU as well.

3 Deadpool

Deadpool is Tim Miller’s R-rated and absolutely hilarious adaptation of the legendary comic book character. The movie is about a wisecracking mercenary who seeks revenge against the people who experimented on him and left him extremely ugly but immortal.

The film features an outstanding performance by Ryan Reynolds in the titular role as Wade Wilson/Deadpool as well as T.J. Miller and Morena Baccarin.  Deadpool is definitely a unique superhero due to his vulgar and harsh sense of humor, and fans loved Reynold’s adaptation of the iconic anti-hero.

2 Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War is the third movie in the MCU’s Avengers series and is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. The film is about the legendary group of superheroes and their fight against Thanos as he attempts to put an end to the universe.

Infinity War is the most popular MCU film among fans, and for good reason, as the film features incredible performances, an outstanding story, and absolutely remarkable special effects. The film destroyed at the box office, making it one of the most successful films of all time, and it showcasess some of the best action sequences from the MCU phase three.

The Dark Knight is Christopher Nolan’s second Batman film in his legendary The Dark Knight Trilogy. The movie is about Batman being forced to face his greatest psychological and physical test yet as he battles The Joker and attempts to stop him from wreaking havoc on Gotham.

The Dark Knight features one of the most iconic performances in a comic book movie ever in Heath Ledger’s role as The Joker, as well as incredible performances from Christian Bale, Aaron Eckhart, and Gary Oldman. The film’s dark, gritty, and realistic portrayal of Batman and Gotham have changed the way audiences consume superhero movies as well as the way they’re made.
