Weddings have a long and storied tradition in comics. There are a lot of different events in comics that can bring heroes together. Normally, when heroes crossover into each other’s comics it involves some sort of universal threat or inter-dimensional turmoil. But there is the rare happy occasion to get everyone together and there’s no better example than a superhero wedding. Weddings are a chance to see our favorite heroes interact like everyday people. Although there’s usually some super villain hi-jinx involved, it is a refreshing change to see our heroes just being happy and in love.

However, much like in our reality, some weddings were better than others and some comics sold better than others.

10 The Flash & Linda Park

The wedding of Wally West and his long-time love interest, Linda Park, happened in the pages of The Flash Vol. 2 #142, published in October of 1998. The comic revolves around the buildup to the wedding. The Flash tries to focus on planning but is distracted by Kobra and his Cult making their return. Eventually, the villain is thwarted and Flash makes it to the wedding. The highlights being; Dick Grayson acting as Wally West’s best man. And Flash using his super-speed to write his vows.

9 Yellowjacket & The Wasp

One of the most infamous couples in the history of comics, Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne took their vows in Avengers Vol. 1 #60, published in January 1969. To put it mildly, their marriage didn’t exactly work out. But that doesn’t mean that the wedding wasn’t nice right? Well, Hank Pym was going through his supervillain phase and Janet Van Dyne was attacked by a snake while cutting the cake. Also, The Avengers were against it but still went along with it in an overall bad move. It was a pretty average affair for comic books.

8 Vision & Scarlet Witch

Now the MCU’s favorite power couple, Wanda Maximov and Vision tied the knot in Giant-Sized Avengers Vol.1 #4, published in June 1975. This should come as a surprise to no one, but there is a lot going on in this comic.

Vision traveled to the Dark Dimension where Dormammu was holding Scarlet Witch prisoner to save her. The two battle their way home where Vision asks Wanda to marry him. Then, Kang, the Conqueror shows up, and there’s actually a double wedding.

7 The Flash & Iris West

A favorite among Flash aficionados Barry Allen married Iris West in The Flash Vol. 1 #165, published in November 1966. This is a quintessential storyline for any Flash fan. In this comic, The Reverse Flash changes places with Barry Allen again. But this time he attempts to manipulate and marry his fiance under false pretenses. Even for him, that’s pretty low. Eventually, the two were actually married in this issue in a quaint wedding.

6 Superman & Lois Lane

Perhaps the most famous couple in all of comics, Clark Kent, aka Superman, and Lois Lane have been a couple since the start of comic books. The two took the plunge in Superman: The Wedding Album, published in December 1996. This issue is a rarity in comics, as there isn’t a supervillain in sight. This is just a straight-up wedding photo album, and honestly, it’s just precious. The comic is beautifully drawn and it is a true delight to see this famous couple looking so happy.

5 Cyclops & Jean Grey

These two are comics’ equivalent to the prom king and queen. Longtime lovebirds, Scott Summers and Jean Grey got hitched in X-Men #30 Vol. 2, published in March 1994. The two titular X-Men actually made a pretty great couple. Scott Summers makes for a surprisingly great partner, and pretty much everyone had a crush on Jean Grey at one point or another. Despite their famous ups-and-downs, this comic finally brings their relationship to the next level. The wedding itself is beautiful with Hank McCoy, better known as The Beast, presiding over the ceremony.

4 Black Panther & Storm

The king of and future queen of Wakanda, T’Challa and Ororo Iqadi T’Challa, better known as Black Panther and Storm, took their royal vows in Black Panther #18 Vol. 4, published in September 2006. Despite the wedding taking place during the height of The Civil War storyline, everyone was in attendance.

The major players were there and even The Watcher made an appearance. Of course, no wedding is without drama because Iron Man and Captain America made it about themselves and stormed out. However, it was still a lovely affair.

3 Northstar & Kyle Jinadu

Being Marvel’s first gay wedding, the marriage of Jean-Paul Beaubier, better known as Northstar, and his long-time boyfriend, Kyle Jinadu, was a pretty big deal. Sure, they were a little late to the pride party, but everyone is always invited. As a first in Marvel comics, one would assume that the issue is full of exciting twists. Well, it was actually a fairly understated and traditional wedding. This was probably the right move because this wedding issue hits you right in the heart. They are a lovely couple and a fine addition to the comic book wedding tradition.

2 Spider-Man & Mary Jane Watson

Everyone’s favorite high school sweethearts really need no introduction. Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson wed in The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #21 Vol. 1, published in September 1987. The comic is pretty crazy, as many of Spider-Man’s villains teamed up to take him down.

Predictably, Spider-Man prevails and the wedding goes off without a hitch. And overall, it is a sweet affair. However, despite the craziness of the wedding, and the instability of Peter’s career, they stand as one of comics’ most relatable couples.

1 Batman & Catwoman

This extremely goth wedding is the most recent on this list. Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle culminated their longtime flirtation in Batman Vol. 7 #50, released in July 2018. The cover depicts Batman and Catwoman kissing passionately; Bruce is in full costume and Selina is masked with a stunning lace gown. To put it simply, it was pretty spicy. So, spicy in fact that this issue and the subsequent Batman/Catwoman: The Wedding Album sold absolute gangbusters. It just goes to show, people really do love a wedding.
