Assassins Creed Valhalla takes a pretty long time to complete due to the countless quests and multiple beautiful locations, but the hours of exploring are never in vain when it comes to the Assassin’s Creed series. This particular game is filled with fun easter eggs hidden in quests, world events, and just wandering around the map.

Nevertheless, there are certain easter eggs that just seem to shine above the rest. Most of these can be understood outside of the context of the franchise, as they highlight modern-day TV shows, music, and even famous books. That being said, see which easter eggs are your favorite.

10 Covid Pandemic

In Valhalla, the player is only made to leave the animus a few times. Other than that, it’s really only done by choice. However, when leaving the animus, the player gets to witness a vast amount of lore from older games by simply wandering around and viewing props, letters, and emails.

If the player takes time to read the emails, they’ll see one addressed to the player-character, Layla Hassan, from her brother Ramy. In the email, the siblings seem to discuss the Covid pandemic, and she assures him she’s at no risk of catching it. There are also other emails that make more vague references, but it’s a nice touch!

9 Dark Souls Bonfire

If you head to the east of Ledcestre, you should stumble across a ruined old building. This easter egg is one that most gamers will understand and will rejoice in seeing when they come across a small bonfire with a large sword sticking out and a helmet nearby.

Anyone who plays or has played Dark Souls will recognize this familiar scene as a resting point where the player regains their health and energy while the monsters around them reset. To make it even better, Eivor can meditate by the bonfire and restore exactly the same thing as you can in Dark Souls.

8 Bayek

When players saw the legendary and rather overpriced Reda appear in Raventhorpe, most were thrilled and a little confused. After all, the first time players see Reda is in Assassins Creed Origins, which makes Reda around 800 years old!

Nevertheless, Eivor will eventually see Reda telling a story to a group of children about a far-off desert and the love between the protector and the scholar which many fans of the franchise will recognize as the story of Bayek and Aya from Assassins Creed Origins. It’s a wonderful story that many players choose to stop and listen to. Don’t worry, though; it’s not hugely spoiler, as you can still play Valhalla and then try out Origins without fear of spoilers.

7 Fantastic Beasts? Or Fish

Some of the easter eggs in Assassins Creed Valhalla are easily missed unless you’re a big fan of the thing it’s referencing. However, others are right there in the player’s face. This is the case for this Harry Potter easter egg from the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.

If you head into Raventhorpe and go into the shop, you’ll find a series of papers for sale at the bottom of her inventory. One paper is a list of how and where to find a series of fish. The note itself is named ‘Fantastic Fishes and Where To Find Them,’ which is a less than subtle nod to the recent Harry Potter franchise.

6 Legolas and Degolas

An easter egg inside a pun, this one is guaranteed to make any player laugh a little to themselves, despite how funny the quest is itself.

When the player heads near the Roman ruins in Grantebridgescire, they should stumble across a rather smelly man named Degolas the Beautiful. He’s an archer who ultimately seems like the polar opposite of the similar-sounding Legolas. It’s a wonderful mention to Legolas and is a pretty fun quest to do. It’s also worth noting that Degolas sounds a lot like “dégueulasse,” which is french for disgusting.

5 Horcruxes

There are quite a few Harry Potter references in Assassins Creed Valhalla, and this one is anything but interactive, but it’s nevertheless pretty cool for people who know what all the Horcruxes are!

If Eivor heads to Lunden and visits an old room, they’ll come across a note on the table that’s only referred to as a ‘Strange List’ which features entries like ‘Diary,” “Ring,” “Snake,” and more until it just leaves question marks at the seventh entry. Any Harry Potter fan will know this is a list of the Horcruxes. Next to this list, they’ll see some of the Horcruxes themselves! To add to that, the room has four banners that are the same colors as the four Hogwarts houses.

4 One Punch Man: The Walloper

One Punch Man isn’t exactly a small or unknown anime—it’s pretty huge, and rightly so! Now, as it seems to be with Assassins Cred Valhalla, anything big and recognizable has been expertly thrown into this game.

Head into Grantebridgescire and speak to a man otherwise known as The Walloper. His sweet children hype him up and do kind of make players a little comfortable in brawling with him. However, his claims to be similar to One Punch Man are anything but a lie. If you get hit by him at any point, then you go straight down, just like a similar B-Class hero many know and love.

3 The Prodigy’s Keith Flint

Interestingly, the creators of Assassins Creed Valhalla seem to be pretty huge fans of The Prodigy. When heading into Essexe, Eivor will come across a spiky-haired man named Keith who is the singer of a band. This is obviously a direct reference to the recently-passed Keith Flint, who was the singer in The Prodigy.

Moreover, Eivor ends up fighting a bishop, which is slightly odd. During the fight, you’ll hear Keith saying “smack my bishop” which is similar to Prodigy’s song “Smack My B***h Up.” Another cool easter egg in this quest is, when Eivor blows up some jars, and Keith calls you a “fire starter.”

2 H.P. Lovecraft

When Eivor infiltrates a coast-side fortress in Dunwic, they’ll see a corpse with a paper. If the player reads the paper, then they’ll see the dead man writing about horrors and terrors beyond our mortal minds. It feels a little crazy to people who don’t get the spider references and the easter egg as a whole, but any fan of H.P. Lovecraft will be grinning from ear to ear at this reference.

The reference is of H.P. Lovecraft’s The Dunwich Horror where a scary spider/human-like creature lives in a similar style fortress and feeds off people who fall into its clutches.

1 Lord Of The Rings

Any Lord Of The Rings easter egg was going to be found pretty easily by the millions of fans. This easter egg is in the form of a quest where Eivor is tasked to find a very important ring.

Many fans will instantly get excited over this quest, and they won’t be disappointed due to the many many references that follow along with this wonderful quest that even the most knowledgeable fans of Lord of The Rings might miss.
