The HBO series Succession has repeatedly shown that it is willing to push the envelope in terms of its storylines, and this extends to the third season. As the season reached its conclusion, Logan Roy showed once again that he has the power to destroy his children if he thinks that doing so will help his own interests, and it essentially reset the entire plot that has been developing over the prior seasons.

As a result, many of the users on Reddit have come up with some very plausible theories about what might transpire in the fourth season.

Whoever Someone Kisses In the End Gets Raked Over the Coals In The Next Season

The dysfunctional and sometimes downright pathological family relations at the heart of Succession have made for some shocking moments. What makes so many of them especially jarring is that they, as DifferentGravy47 says, often follow a very specific pattern, i.e. that “Whoever gets kissed at the end,” is betrayed. This has worked out in some surprising ways in the previous seasons, so it’s very possible that the fourth season might see Tom betray Shiv even more than he presumably already has.

There Will Be A Connor Focus

Connor is sort of the black sheep of the Roy family, always seeming to exist outside of the charmed circle of the three others, who have always been high in their father’s estimation. DoodsieDoot, however, thinks that the fourth season will see some good things happen for Connor, and that his political career, largely considered a joke by his siblings, might actually become a much bigger deal. Given how much this series has always excelled at shaking up and flouting expectations, this could very well come to pass. As they bluntly put it, “i think the conheads are gonna love season 4.”

Tom Will Be The Focus Of The Fourth Season

Connor is not the only secondary character that Reddit users are positing might play a major role in the fourth season. kaboomviper goes so far as to suggest “I think the ending is hinting at Tom getting spotlighted next season,” while Connor will be the focus of the fifth.

This is a very strong theory based on the fact that each of the prior three seasons have, in fact, seemed to focus on each sibling as they navigate the fraught waters of their father’s business and the family in general, so it might be finally time for Tom to shine.

Logan And Kerry Get Married

One of the more perplexing aspects of the third season was Logan’s newfound closeness (and possibly relationship) with Kerry. SarathKumar1997 not only points to all of the reasons why this scenario might actually work – noting “The relationship was firmly established in episode 6” – but also makes the convincing case that Logan might seek out another marriage in order to compensate for what he sees as Caroline’s (played by Harriet Walter, one of the best guest stars to appear on the show) happiness with her new husband.

Tom Isn’t Quite Who We Thought He Was

Tom, despite all of his strangeness, has become something of a fan favorite when it comes to theories of the fourth season. MonkSalad1 thinks that it’s entirely possible that Tom might transform in the course of the season, asking: “could he be seen as a modern day version of the slippery business mogul that Logan was?” Given that Tom has already shown that he has a shrewd mind and that he’s not afraid to betray those who have belittled him, it’s quite possible and even likely that he’ll take the opportunity to get his revenge on those who have wronged him.

Tom And Greg Pan Out

The relationship between Greg and Tom is a strangely endearing one on the show, so it makes sense that JungleJim4322 would express hope that they might take things to the next level.

This seems like it could actually come to pass, because as the poster points out, “this season adds up even more to the depth of their relationship,” and by this point it’s clear that, in their own strange way, they actually care about one another and what happens to the other.

The Siblings Try To Take Logan Out

One of the most startling aspects of the third season was the revelation at the end that, once again, Logan had managed to outwit people who were trying to destroy him. However, cardspackgrizzblues wisely points out, it’s entirely possible that this isn’t where things are going to end. Given that none of the Roy children have ever shown themselves willing to just lie down and accept defeat, it’s likely that they’ll continue to try to find ways to destroy him, possibly by “coming together and starting their own company or somehow figuring a way to take down Logan/Madsen from within.”

Kendall’s Manslaughter Could Destroy The Whole Family

The moment when Kendall accidentally kills a young man remains one of the most shocking moments in the entire show, and it has continued to cast a long shadow. In fact, BMCarbaugh  says that it’s entirely possible that the event and its coverup could become the sort of event that destroys everyone that comes into contact with it, i.e. not just Kendall but also his father and the entire company. Since other seemingly minor events have tended to metastasize at this company, this seems a very likely possibility that this could, in the poster’s words, become “dead man’s switch, this live nuclear hand grenade.”

Logan Goes Out On Top

Logan Roy is inarguably one of Brian Cox’s best roles, and so it makes sense that he is often the center of the show. However, as johnhk4 points out, it’s entirely possible that his days are numbered and that the fourth season could well see his ultimate demise, that he might in fact “suddenly drop dead at some point in season 4.” It’s entirely possible that Logan will die in the fourth season but, as this user also argues, it’s probably going to be the case that he will remain as dominant as he has been from the beginning.

Greg Will Become Corrupted

There’s no question that cousin Greg has been one of the few characters in the series to have at least held onto some of his innocence. However, that might begin to change, as one InfiniteBackground50 points out. In fact, Greg has already started to show signs that he might be falling into just the sort of amorality that his grandfather told him that he would, and it remains to be seen just how far he’ll fall in his own pursuit of power. Perhaps he will, as the poster says, “be a greedy morally bankrupt person like all the rest of them.”
