Netflix subscribers might recognize a similar theme between the Netflix original shows. Many of the most popular shows produced by the streaming giant focus on the strong theme of female friendship. Considering that Orange Is the New Black was the platform’s first big hit, this is not too surprising.

With the crazy amount of success OITNB brought Netflix, the network realized that original shows centralizing around groups of strong, smart women who supported one another was a winning formula and thankfully it’s a formula that Hollywood could use more of. Netflix has a catalog with some of the best female friendships ever portrayed on television, and when focusing on the catalog of original series, ten of these female bonds stick out as the most memorable and inspiring.

10 DJ, Steph, and Kimmy – Fuller House

The Netflix reboot Fuller House brought back three of the fan-favorite characters from the original, Steph, her sister DJ, and her best friend and neighbor Kimmy Gibbler. In the first iteration of the family sitcom, Full House,  Steph can’t stand Kimmy but over the years, she warms to the eccentric neighbor who has issues with personal space. So much so that she trusts Kimmy to be a surrogate for her when she learns she can’t have children. The bond the three share on Fuller House is heartwarming and entertaining to watch, as the three help each other out of some hilarious situations.

9 Devy, Elenor, and Fabiola – Never Have I Ever

The teen comedy, Never Have I Ever, from creator Mindy Kaling really shows the power of friendship as three girls try to find themselves during their sophomore year of high school. The three support each other in a refreshing way and are a great representation of what women supporting women can look like. Mindy has included her signature humor and realism in these three girls as the show tells the ups and downs of their friendship and the show is even based on Kaling’s own experiences and upbringing.

8 Maeve And Aimee – Sex Education

The Netflix original Sex Education, which is set in the UK, paints the picture of two well-developed characters who, although are very different, become really close and support each other through some tough times. Aimee is a great friend to Maeve always making sure she’s included, knowing that Maeve is on her own generally.

Aimee even goes to the trouble to make Maeve a pink bunny cake for her birthday, carrying it to school after a long, horrific bus ride. And Maeve defends her friend to no end, immediately jumping into action when she finds out about Aimee’s assault on the bus. She even rallies together all the girls to ride the bus with Aimee to help make her feel safe again.

7 The G.L.O.W. – Glow

The Netflix hit show GLOW features a huge cast of women and there are too many great female friendships between the girls of the team to single out just one friendship. The bond between all of the Gorgeous Women OF Wrestling is special as they all live together like one big family and have to deal with each other faults and flaws on a daily basis. But they support each other in a way that only a team can and the way they uplift each other is inspiring in a world where women tear each other down quite often, and not ina ring.

6 Maddie, Dana Sue, And Helen – Sweet Magnolias

Sweet Magnolias is all about the special bond shared between the three leading women. They all grew up in the same town and became inseparable. All three women are powerful and strong in their own way and the show finds a way to highlight all three of them without diminishing the rest. It is refreshing to see a show where three friends can go into business together and actually succeed instead of trying to fight over whos the best. This show has the southern charm that more shows about friendship should think about adapting

5 Tabitha, Moe, And Elodie – Trinkets

Three girls who meet in a kleptomaniacs anonymous group does not seem like the recipe for a stable friendship but the three girls of Trinkets form a really tight bond that gets them through a vast array of situations and helps all three of them discover who they really are. The girls choose the symbol of the triangle to represent their friendship and it’s a great fit as triangles are strong due to all sides being equal and offering the same amount of support just like these three prove to be on the teen drama.

4 Taystee And Poussey – Orange Is The New Black

Orange Is The New Black’s creator Jenji Kohan, masterly weaved together the world of a women’s prison, managing to tell the stories of a vast array of characters, all with different backgrounds and motivations.  A big part of what made this work was her focus on the strong bonds formed there. Many found love, whether it be temporary or forever, but many found friendship.

The friendship that sticks out the most is that between Taystee and Poussey. The two really do bring out the best in each other and they bot bring the other one up when they are down. It’s heartbreaking what happened to Pouseey but Taystee makes sure she does everything in her power to avenge the death of her beloved friend even if it means taking away her own freedom.

3 Grace And Frankie – Grace And Frankie

In one of the first shows on Netflix to portray such a powerful friendship between women, Grace and Frankie give viewers a wonderful show about two women who, under normal circumstances would never get along. but due to their husbands falling in love with each other, the two are forced to find a way to tolerate one another and miraculously they succeed.

They become that fantasy of two friends growing old together on the beach. If the two would have seen past their differences sooner they might have even had more years on that beach. But nevertheless, the universe pushed them together and they are friendship and roommate goals for many fans.

2 Kate and Tully – Firefly Lane

Firefly Lane covers an endearing friendship that spans three decades and it beautifully shows the progression of the friendship through its nonlinear timeline. And even though by the end of season one it seems as if the gals haven’t spoken in two years their past has proven that they will work it out. They have gone through some really hard times together and they are a great example of the power of female friendship. Hopefully, future seasons will continue to highlight the special bond between the two main characters.

1 Jen And Judy – Dead To Me

Dead to Me takes what Grace and Frankie did and brings it to a younger generation of women. These two women are complete opposites and if it wasn’t for their very unique circumstances there is no way they would have the bond they end up having by the end of season 2. The two women should hate each other since they are both responsible, in a way, for the death of the other one’s love. But the two women exercise true strength, when they forgive each other, their friendship surpassing the mistakes they have made. The bond they share is the most unique thing on television and the dynamic between the two is rare and special and it’s difficult to pick who is the better friend between the two of them.
