10 Best Memes About M. Night Shyamalan’s Old

M. Night Shyamalan’s Old follows a group of vacationers who travel to a tropical oasis only to discover that the beach they visit has the power to rapidly age them. Based on the graphic novel Sandcastle, the premise of a beach making someone age a year for every half-hour seems promising, but it’s also ripe for jokes and humor.
Almost from the moment the film was released, numerous side-splitting memes have been generated. While Shyamalan’s films may be inconsistent—this film seems to belong to Shyamalan’s less esteemed works based on the film’s underwhelming 50% on the Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes—Old has at least given the world a treasure trove of entertaining memes.
10 Titanic

In this hilarious jab at the Old beach and its effects, an image of the older version of Rose from Titanic, shown at the beginning of the James Cameron film, is used to show the Old beach’s aging after only 84 minutes in this meme from Twitter.
Using the geriatric appearance of a senior Rose, the meme creatively lampoons the Old beach and its aftermath for its trapped victims. Ironically, both Old and Titanic both feature the ocean as a source of turmoil and peril, making this Titanic reference a strange but perfect fit.
9 Mamma Mia
fun fact: the events of the mamma mia cinematic universe actually take place in 1 day because they live on the beach that makes you old pic.twitter.com/refBfd6z0v

The timeline of the 2008 movie musical Mamma Mia! and its prequel/sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, is spoofed in this meme found on Newsweek. Using Lily James’s portrayal of the character Donna in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again in comparison to Meryl Streep’s portrayal of the same character many years later in Mamma Mia!, the side-by-side juxtaposition quips about the rapid aging of the beach in Old.

In this hysterical meme from Twitter, the 1996 family film Jack is used to great effect to show how dreadful the Old beach is. Using a still from the scene in Jack when the titular character is nervous to approach his classmate’s mom and masquerade as the principal, Jack’s visually noticeable uncomfortable dread and nervousness are used to show the great unease one would have if tasked with having to retrieve an out-of-bounds frisbee from the Old beach.
The Jack reference is a bit surprising, as it is often not recognized as one of Robin William’s best movies, but knowledge of the ’90s movie is not necessary since the meme speaks for itself.

While a day at the beach seems like a blast to most, a day at the Old beach probably wouldn’t be, beautiful though it is. In this meme on Paper, stills from 2018’s A Star is Born are used to humorous effect to point out the unappealing prospect of the Old beach.
Lady Gaga’s expressive facial impressions in the scene communicate to the viewer of the meme all the unease anyone would have if offered to travel to the beach that ages someone a year in only 30 minutes. Not many people would be willing to accept that offer.
6 Steve Rogers

The old Steve Rogers, or Captain America as he’s traditionally known, is shown as being one of the victims of the Old beach in this Twitter meme. At the end of Avengers: Endgame, when Steve Rogers gives the Captain America shield to The Falcon after living a full life with Peggy Carter, Steve has aged 70 years. Concurrently, the Old beach is used as the excuse for Steve Rogers’s elderly appearance.

Sue Sylvester, the tough-as-nails coach from Glee, has become a treasure trove of amusing memes, usually having Sue’s famous line ” I am going to create…”. In this meme found from Paper, Sue Slyvester is seen plotting to create a beach that makes people old, referencing M. Night Shyamalan’s Old.
The threat posed by the abusive coach is a unique take on the Old memes, as many of them instead use humorous comparisons. While many things may not make sense about some M. Night Shyamalan movies, this one included, there are also many things that do not make sense about Glee’s Sue Sylvester.
4 Super (Old) Mario

Super Mario becomes Super Old Mario in this ribbing on the Old beach and Mario’s appearance in a game as shown in the meme from Twitter. Only a skeleton and his signature mustache on a sandy beach, Mario is envisioned as one of the beach’s victims akin to the beach in Old.
In a weirdly distributing approach to the Old memes, the morbid picture painted actually manages to be quite rib-tickling in the funny-because-its-true way that the Mario image connects to Old.
3 Beach Boys

Using the surf-pop band from the sixties, this meme found on comicbook.com contrasts the Beach Boys in their 20s to the Beach Boys now, where the members are in their late seventies.
The poster uses both the title and the image of the famous band for this pun-tastic meme. It’s hard to say how much the members of The Beach Boys would enjoy this meme, but, to everyone else, this meme is definitely chuckle-worthy.
2 Ageless Paul Rudd

— Mr Bean’s Stunt Double (@MustacheDad) July 25, 2021
In this hilarious meme from Twitter, Paul Rudd’s seemingly inability to age is made fun of in this imagining of Paul Rudd going to the beach in Old. To compare Paul Rudd from his Clueless days in the mid-90s to his appearance now, Rudd looks like he has barely gained any wrinkles in the more than twenty years he has been in the public eye.
Paul Rudd’s face has escaped from bearing the marks of time, but the same can not be said for some of Paul Rudd’s underrated movies that have been forgotten over the years.

In the X-Men prequels, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender play the younger versions of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Ian McKellan’s Magneto. In this meme found on IGN, the spot-on casting of the younger counterparts of the X-Men franchise is spoofed. Positioning the tender-footed versions of Professor X and Magneto if they went to the Old beach and left as the senior versions of their respective characters, the meme is a riotous sendup of the two installments of X-Men and their time gaps.
The use of the junior versions of the two frenemies revitalized the X-Men franchise. According to Rotten Tomatoes, X-Men: Days of Future Past was appraised as one of the best X-Men movies out there.
