The new Netflix movie Army of Thieves has hit, treating audiences to a brand-new thrilling heist movie. Army of Thieves serves as a prequel to Zack Snyder’s recent Army of the Dead, exploring the character of Dieter and how he became an expert safecracker.

Though Army of the Dead was a bloody horror-action movie, Army of Thieves shares more in common with stylish heist movies. It will no doubt put fans in the mood for a similar fun crime story and there are plenty of funny, exciting, and wild heist movies fans of Army of Thieves can check out.

10 Army Of The Dead (2021)

If fans of Army of Thieves have yet to check out its predecessor, now is the perfect time to watch Army of the Dead. While it focuses much more on the zombie apocalypse that is mentioned in Army of Thieves, it also functions as a heist movie as well.

Dave Bautista plays Scott Ward, the leader of a ragtag group of mercenaries and thieves who plan to sneak into the zombie-filled city of Las Vegas to break into a casino bank. It is a great bit of genre-mashing with Snyder’s signature wild style of filmmaking.

9 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)

It is interesting to see how other genres and franchises can take on the heist movie formula and Rogue One shows that even Star Wars can get in on the fun. This standalone prequel to A New Hope tells the story of a team of Rebels who are responsible for stealing the plans to the Death Star.

The movie does a wonderful job of hitting all the typical notes of the heist genre, including assembling a fun team. However, it also fits so nicely into the Star Wars mythology, filling in some interesting blanks and exploring new aspects of the universe.

8 Inception (2010)

As thrilling as it can be to see a team of thieves rob a bank, it is always fun when a heist movie finds a new kind of caper. Inception stars Leonardo DiCaprio as the leader of a team of thieves that specialize in entering the dreams of their targets and stealing their secrets.

Christopher Nolan took a bold and ambitious idea while adding his own epic style of filmmaking to it. Even with a very different heist at the center of it, fans can see the similarities Army of Thieves and Inception have in the carrying out of the elaborate crime.

7 Ant-Man (2015)

Dieter makes for a fun protagonist in Army of Thieves because of how out of place he feels in the whole wild situation. This is similar to how Scott Lang serves as the hero in the MCU’s first heist movie, Ant-Man. Lang is thrust into the world of superheroes when he is hired to pull off a world-saving heist using the Ant-Man suit.

While not as big in scale as some other MCU movies, Ant-Man is a more family-friendly superhero adventure. Paul Rudd is as charming as ever in hero mode and the movie is packed with a great sense of humor in the midst of the superhero action.

6 Logan Lucky (2017)

While Army of Thieves has a few characters who are exceptionally skilled at their jobs, there is also a fun amateur feel to the heists that adds unpredictability. That sort of zany energy is also put to great use in Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky.

The movie stars Channing Tatum and Adam Driver as brothers who break a criminal (Daniel Craig) out of prison to rob a NASCAR event. It has the same fun and humorous style that makes Army of Thieves so much fun.

5 Baby Driver (2017)

Edgar Wright is another filmmaker who is able to take on big genres and add his own sense of humor to them. After pulling this off in zombie movies and buddy cop movies, he tried the heist genre in Baby Driver.

The movie plays almost like an action movie musical about a getaway driver who uses music to help guide him behind the wheel. It is a funny, wild and entertaining ride with some amazing car chase scenes thrown in.

4 Fast Five (2011)

Nathalie Emmanuel has a great role in Army of Thieves that feels reminiscent of her role as Ramsay in the Fast and Furious movies. There has been a heist movie feel to these movies for a long time and Fast Five really cemented the new direction for the series.

Ditching the street racing that started out the franchise, Fast Five turned into an international action movie as Dominic Toretto and his team came together to pull off wild jobs in fancy cars while causing a whole lot of destruction.

3 The Italian Job (2003)

Though the original The Italian Job is a terrific crime classic, the remake is a more action-packed popcorn movie in line with Army of Thieves. It stars Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, and Jason Statham as a gang of thieves who seek to rob the former team member who betrayed them.

Like Army of Thieves, The Italian Job is fun for its action scenes as well as the comedic interactions of the team. It is a fast-paced and stylish crowd-pleaser.

2 Ocean’s Eleven (2001)

Army of Thieves has a lot of fun pointing out the tropes of the heist genre and Ocean’s Eleven was one of the movies that really helped establish those clichés in a very memorable way. The star-studded caper brings together George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and many more as a team of thieves that pull off a Las Vegas heist.

The movie is a rare example of a remake that is better than the original, using the impressive cast to tell a clever and funny crime story that is fun from beginning to end.

1 Tower Heist (2011)

Army of Thieves’ recurring joke about drawing inspiration from Hollywood heist movies feels akin to the madcap energy of Tower Heist. The movie stars Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy as the leaders of a team of thieves who plan to rob a crooked investor who took all their money.
