The CW’s Walker has been a hit on arrival, largely thanks to the popularity of titular star Jared Padalecki. Unlike the original western led by Chuck Norris, the remake focuses on emotional challenges, with law enforcement issues in tandem but to a lesser extent.

It has redefined what being brave truly means, as characters who have faced their problems and personal issues have appeared to be stronger than those who engage in action. That doesn’t mean the authority figures aren’t courageous themselves, meaning both aspects need to be considered. It’s worth taking a deeper look into how the characters tick the boxes where courage and bravery are most needed.

10 Geraldine Broussard

Geri is pretty brave for a person who isn’t supposed to be involved in the action the series is based around. She’s stood up for herself and doesn’t let anyone walk over her, but she’s still more on the sidelines.

Geri also didn’t have the courage to confront her feelings for Cordell and be honest with Hoyt about her kiss with the former, which shows that she lacks boldness where her emotions are concerned. In any case, she does well for herself considering there’s so much conflict in the series.

9 Bonham Walker

It might seem easy to call Bonham a tough man who doesn’t take anyone’s attitude, but the series has shown that he usually puts up a facade. Bonham is brave when he has to put up a fight, yet he’s afraid when things get too real and out of his control.

Bonham was scared to accept that he was ill, opting not to do anything about it when that was the worst thing he could have done. He’s also avoided confronting valid familial issues, which show a lack of conviction. Of course, Bonham will always be prepared to go toe-to-toe with anyone, so his general bravery can’t be understated.

8 Stella Walker

Stella is one of the characters in Walker with a personality that’s hard to place, as she can be very bold at times but regresses back just as easily. It took some courage to stand up for the belief she had in her love interest when everyone thought he was bad news, even though it was misguided.

On the other hand, she didn’t have the strength in her to forgive Cordell when he asked for it, and Stella took the longest time to accept her father’s fault for fear of being abandoned again. She’s definitely got a fiery spirit in her, although it remains to be seen in full.

7 Abeline Walker

The fact that Abeline was capable of dealing with such a shattered family makes her a contender for one of the best moms on TV. She put up a brave front for August and Stella when Cordell was gone, and Abeline looked to fill the maternal absence the kids had after Emily’s demise.

Abilene lacks forthrightness in how she’s faced her feelings for her husband, choosing to go along with Bonham keeping her at arm’s length, and even briefly having an affair rather than working on her marriage. Both her strengths and weaknesses make Abeline flawed but human where her bravery shows up.

6 August Walker

On the face of things, August might seem weaker in comparison to his family because he’s more sedate in personality and isn’t confrontational. However, August has the best emotional strength there is, having coped with the loss of his mother and the departure of his father much better than the rest.

August isn’t the kind of person who’s daring, as he goes overboard when he does try to prove he can be fearless. Still, the way he handled family tragedies at such a young age as his is a form of valiance that shouldn’t be overlooked.

5 Trey Barnett

Trey is the person who would drop everything if he were asked for help. As an army medic, he’s required to be tough as nails and answer threatening issues. Trey’s always willing to join the fight should there be a need to, and there’s nothing to suggest he isn’t a heroic man.

The downside is that Trey’s role has been relatively low-key, with Micki generally asking him to let her handle things on her own. Trey’s true level of spunk isn’t fully known yet, which leaves less to interpret about how he would react to big-time problems.

4 Cordell Walker

Most fans still tend to confuse Jared Padelecki’s Walker with Supernatural’s Sam Winchester, considering Cordell to be just as fearless as Sam was. However, Cordell has been very much scared when he can’t make sense of things, which is something he gets from his father.

He had an emotional breakdown after Emily’s death and wasn’t there for his children. Still, there’s no denying he has been a true hero many times, having gotten directly in the line of fire to fight the bad guys. Cordell is completely valorous when emotions aren’t involved, as he becomes fearful when he starts caring too much.

3 Emily Walker

Emily is an exceptional character for the dedication and strong-willed mentality she carried even though she was officially just a civilian. She helped refugees by sneaking toward their camps, all the while risking getting caught. Emily ultimately died because she was too spirited for her own good.

Emily recorded Cali’s activities when she should have been fleeing, which was a move that cost Emily her life. Like some other characters, Emily wasn’t shown in action-oriented moments for fans to learn more of her feats, but what is known of her is that she was a determined, resolute, and intrepid woman.

2 Liam Walker

As the Assistant District Attorney, danger is part and parcel of Liam’s job, and he has no issues with being threatened. Liam is generally regarded as the most likable character in Walker, whose strong moral compass has enabled him to defy most inclinations toward feeling fear.

He was the person in the Walker household who had the guts and determination to repair their family after Emily’s death, becoming a father figure to the children. Liam has been in dangerous situations repeatedly but continues in his job to seek justice despite not having an action-oriented job.

1 Micki Ramirez

Micki carries a chip on her shoulder that occasionally leads her make rash decisions like confronting senior officials or getting into arguments with potential suspects. While that isn’t the wisest thing to do, it shows how Micki has little cowardice that she carries within herself and has no problems with picking fights.

Micki doesn’t have natural physical gifts like Walker nor does she have an easy time dealing with emotions as Emily did, but the fact that she still deals with problems on her own instead of dumping them on anyone else portrays Micki’s knack for empowering herself to overcome fear.
