The Star Wars universe is home to some of the most engaging characters, creatures, and stories in all the galaxy. From the brave feats of the Jedi Knights to the insidious deeds of the Sith, the stars are aglow with inspiration and imagination, and nowhere does that shine brighter than in the series’s writing.

Although not all films are created equal, there are more than a few lines from every film that grab the viewers’ attention. Whether they are funny, witty, poignant, or proud, the sensational sci-fi space opera has no shortage of incredible and intergalactic quotes all across the series.

10 “Chewie, We’re Home.”

Simple yet effective, these famous first words from Han Solo in The Force Awakens essentially summarizes the untold history of Han’s entire character. Right from looking at him, fans can tell that he’s been through the wringer and seen some serious struggles since last viewers saw him. But even throughout his turmoil, he still returns to the vessel he calls home.

9 “Never Tell Me The Odds”

On the subject of Han Solo, his ride-or-die attitude has always been somewhat of a calling card throughout his decorated career. Being essentially a space pirate in debt to one of the most notorious slug gangsters in the galaxy, he doesn’t exactly have a lot of time to calculate risks.

Although it isn’t precisely the lifestyle most would consider pursuing in a galaxy far, far, away, there’s no denying that Han’s adventurous outings aren’t fueled by his spirit.

8 “There’s Always a Bigger Fish”

Next to his protege, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn is the shining example of the Jedi image from the end of his ponytail to the tip of his emerald lightsaber. Of course, he’s going to have the best lines. This dry-witted nugget of truth might be used for comic relief after a daring escape, but it’s applicable to various other situations as well, even the titular Phantom Menace of Darth Maul.

7 “I find Your Lack of Faith Disturbing”

Where would the series be without the intimidating power of Darth Vader? Not only is his command of the Dark Side his deadliest asset, but his wit is also just as sharp and ruthless as his lightsaber.

To criticize the Dark Lord of the Sith is suicide, but one certain officer must have missed the memo. For future reference, never insult the religion of a guy who can choke you with a single thought.

6 “The Ability To Destroy a Planet Is Insignificant Next To The Power Of The Force”

Speaking of Vader’s sorcerous ways, sometimes fans forget that the path of the Jedi/Sith has more than a few religious elements present than they thought. And as they say, faith has the power to move mountains. While the Death Star was certainly one of the most intimidating features in any sci-fi flick, one person well-gifted and practiced in the way of the Force has certainly proven to be quite devastating as well.

5 “Try Not To Choke On Your Aspirations, Director.”

Darth Vader is perhaps the last person in the entire realm of the Sith one would expect to make jokes, but this clever and cruel one-liner from Rogue One certainly grabbed more than Director Krennic by the throat.

It’s so sudden and slightly out of character for Vader, but at the same time, it’s precisely the wicked sense of humor befitting of a cybernetic Sith Lord. Needless to say, the message was well-received by both parties.

4 “Your Ability To Speak Does Not Make You Intelligent.”

The Sith have shown some sense of humor, but how about those noble warriors on the Light Side of the Force? Jar-Jar Binks is not the most beloved creature in the Star Wars universe, so verbal jabs at the Jedi’s froggy friend in The Phantom Menace are practically expected. However, this beautiful barb by Qui-Gon Jinn not only proves true for the goofy Gungan but other slow-witted species one might meet in their galaxy.

3 “So This Is How Liberty Dies, With Thunderous Applause.”

Now things take a dark and serious turn with this quote from Senator Amidala. This is the point in the prequel trilogy where the bottom drops out for the Republic.

Chancellor Palpatine has secured his position and seat of unlimited political power in the Senate, won the sympathy of the delegates, and has planted the seed that will blossom into the evil Empire that will dominate the galaxy. And all the Republic supporters can do is watch in anguish.

2 “Do. Or Do Not. There Is No Try.”

If ever there was a quote that got tossed around the most, this one wins the grand prize. Of all the pearls of pure Jedi wisdom Yoda has to offer, this one is perhaps one of the most poignant and repeated of them all. It’s basically a wise and ancient way of saying go all the way or don’t go at all. This phrase can be applied generally in two ways. Stick with the path in spite of the obstacles that may come, or simply quit the stalling.

1 “Fear Leads To Anger, Anger Leads To Hate; Hate Leads To Suffering.”

This is the path to the Dark Side. Out of all the quotes in the Star Wars universe, this one is perhaps the most stunning and tragically true. Not only is it applicable on a philosophical level, but viewers and fans see it truly unfold in the life of Anakin Skywalker. It was these words that permanently and perfectly captured the dangers of the Dark Side potential in everyone.
