10 Hardest Battles In Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey

The world of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey is full of adventure and danger. Like many movies that vividly recreate the world of Ancient Greece, the game brings legend and myth to life. Countless missions await in every corner of the Greek world, posing diverse and enthralling challenges for players seeking to have a good time.

Throughout the playthrough, there are several bosses to fight and defeat (both human and supernatural). Some pose no real challenge, but a few select ones can make life especially burdensome for even the most experienced players. Still, they all enhance the game, even if some make the challenge all the more painful.

10 The Kalydonian Boar

The Kalydonian Boar is one of the first meaningful battles in the game and can be especially challenging for new players. The Boar lives in the Sacred Lands of Artemis, in the region of Phokis, and players fight it as part of the “Daughters of Artemis” quest early in the game.

The Boar is challenging by itself, but it also calls for help in the form of three or four smaller but equally aggressive boars. These lot will run around the misthios, charging with considerable strength. Dodging is essential in this battle, and Paralyzing arrows work wonders with the smaller boars.

9 The Kretan Bull

Fire is one of AC: Odysseys best tools. Flaming and Explosive arrows and weapons will make ‘Conquest’ and ‘Mercenary’ battles considerably easier. However, fire will make things more problematic against the Kretan Bull. The animal becomes even more threatening when set on fire, rampaging around the field and doing considerable damage to the player. Its large horns are very lethal and have great reach, so it’s imperative to evade them.

The best strategy to use is to sneak up from behind and land a few meaningful attacks. As with any of the Legendary Animals, dodging is crucial to stay in the battle. It’s also vital to have the Second Wind ability, while poison arrows may also add a minimal yet appreciated bonus.

8 The Krokottas Hyena

The Krokottas Hyena is the highest-leveled Legendary Animal in the game. At first sight, it might seem like the slowest and most simplistic of all the beasts. It doesn’t have a wide range of attacks, and its movements are somewhat erratic. Indeed, all it seems to do is jump from one side to the other.

However, its lunges are its most dangerous weapon. The Krokottas Hyena can travel from one side of the field to the other in just one jump, biting the player while doing so. The key to this battle is to land as many hits as possible when catching up to the hyena. Indeed, this is one battle where the player does almost all the chasing.

7 Medusa

Arguably the most famous of all the Greek monsters, Medusa acts as one of the four bosses in the Gates of Atlantis quest chain. She inhabits deep in the forest of Lesbos, the island furthest north in Odyssey‘s humongous and meme-worthy map. Medusa has the most elaborate attacks of the four mythological creatures. She will also call on four stone mercenaries to the field, becoming temporarily invulnerable.

Her attacks pack quite the punch, but she doesn’t have too many. She has a laser that turns the player into stone and a series of three consecutive lightning attacks that appear on the floor. After doing them, she remains still for a few seconds, providing the perfect opportunity for the player to attack. There are also stone pillars around the battlefield, and the player can hide behind them to escape her death glare while also shooting explosive arrows at her.

6 Arges, The Bright One

Added for free in the January 2019 update, Arges the Bright One is Odyssey‘s most burdensome cyclops. Unlike the other two cyclops in the game, Arges is fast and has a plethora of attacks. He follows a defined pattern of attacks that may take a while to memorize, but they are avoidable.

As with the previous cyclops fight, players must aim for the eye to deal further damage. Lava surrounds the entire battlefield and will quickly burn the player if they step on it. At one point in the battle, Arges begins stomping, making even more lava appear on the ground. Its imperative to keep moving to avoid any run-ins with the flaming liquid.

5 Deimos

Family issues are one of Odyssey‘s central conflicts. Indeed, throughout the game, the player chases their estranged sibling around the Greek world, trying to either defeat or redeem them. Players fight Diemos two times in the game. The first fight occurs during an all-out conflict between Athens and Sparta, in a scene that ranks as one of Odyssey‘s most cinematic.

The second fight is more intimate and has considerable repercussions on the game’s story. Deimos doesn’t have the most attacks of any boss in the game, and their fight can occasionally feel underwhelming. Maybe Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed adaptation will do a better job at adapting this storyline?

4 Cerberus

Cerberus, the mythological three-headed dog, has appeared in everything from Disney movies to the Harry Potter franchise. It is one of the most enduring and iconic beasts of Ancient Greece, so, of course, it would receive the Assassin’s Creed treatment.

The dog’s fight is straightforward but brutal. Each of Cerberus’ heads can throw fireballs, and, like the Krokkotas Hyena, it also jumps around the field, albeit more slowly. Cerberus’ body will begin burning once its health goes down to half and will also become more faster and aggressive. This hellhound definitely lives up to its name.

3 The Minotaur

The Minotaur’s quest comes surrounded by a latent sense of dread. Players might’ve already encountered another quest chain featuring a minotaur that turns out to be fake, making them weary. However, by the time players enter the legendary Cretan labyrinth and hear distant roars, there’s no denying the Minotaur is as dangerous as they come.

The fight takes place in two parts. First, the Minotaur will launch a series of defined attacks in a field of considerable size. Once its health drops to half, it will reduce the fighting space. Its speed will also increase, and its attacks become more constant, making them harder to dodge. Due to the Minotaur’s sheer brutality, players looking for an easier time should get the Mallet of Everlasting Flame before facing the Minotaur because fire will deal considerable damage. Explosive and Fire arrows are also highly effective against this brute.

2 The Erymanthian Boar

The second boar in the game is any player’s worst nightmare. Much like its Kalydonian sibling, the Erymanthian Boar charges towards players, dealing considerable damage with its vicious horns. However, what makes this beast truly enraging is its ability to release poisonous gas, which rapidly depletes player’s health. The gas can also cover a large part of the field, making it nearly impossible to escape.

Second Wind is a must in this battle, as are Explosive Arrows. Death Arrows will also be a player’s best friend, and experienced archers might not have a problem at all dealing with the Boar. However, many players will still die several times trying to take down this excruciatingly sturdy beast.

1 Hades

The God of the Underworld has a bad reputation. Movies, like Hercules, inaccurately portray Hades as a villain, with his mythological counterpart a more of a neutral agent. He cared very little about the Olympians’ squabbles and was happy to spend his time isolated in his dominion.

Assassin’s Creed goes the mainstream route and portrays Hades in a negative light. His boss battle ranks as one of the game’s most annoying, brutal, and abnormally long. Throughout the fight, Hades’ armor has a health bar of its own, which refills often. His attacks are also varied and fast, and his giant staff has absurd reach. Once his health drops below half, he’ll begin casting force fields that reduce the player’s adrenaline. Hades’ battle is appropriate for the God of the Underworld, and the most challenging in the game, by far.
