Almost unanimously hailed as the best couple of Harry Potter, Molly and Arthur have the kind of love that lasts forever and holds strong through stormy waters. The song “New Year’s Day” speaks of exactly that bond, which lasts through every adversity, and a partner who stays and picks up bottles after a big party.

Molly and Arthur raised a family with less money but the right morals, sticking with each other long after the rose-hued haze of first love had passed.

They tried hard, but just like in the song, there was betrayal involved when Cho and Marietta got interrogated by Umbridge and ended up revealing the presence of Dumbledore’s Army. Harry didn’t take kindly to Cho “switching to the other side” and their short bond came to an end fairly quickly.

Tom Riddle And Merope Gaunt – “Bad Blood”

Everything about Tom Riddle Sr.’s relationship with Merope was wrong, and not just the fact that their child turned out to be Lord Voldemort. Merope bewitched Tom, an unsuspecting muggle, to fall in love with her and they got married, but when the effects of her spell wore off, Tom Sr. fled, rightfully.

There was so much bad blood between the two (which “used to be mad love”) that Tom didn’t even care for his son with Merope. It ended badly for all of them, and the damage done was so great it carried through generations.

This was one of the sweetest relationships in the whole series, and very much a fairytale situation for Hermione who was dating a certified celebrity. Viktor was the superstar in this case for whom “all the girls in the front row screamed his name,” but the love that Hermione had for Viktor was not unrequited.

He saw the “wide-eyed girl” that she was and recognized her for her intelligence and distinctive qualities, and chose her over all the other girls. Viktor was actually very respectful and charming, and he wrote to Hermione long after he left Hogwarts.
