10 Hilarious Female-Driven Comedies To Watch If You Loved Like A Boss

The film Like a Boss is about two women named Mia (Tiffany Haddish) and Mel (Rose Byrne) who are trying to keep their cosmetics business, Mia & Mel, afloat when they receive an offer from Claire Luna (Salma Hayek), a big name in the cosmetics industry, to have a controlling share in their company by investing in it. After regretting this decision and a lot of fighting between the two of them, they must work together to get their company back.

Like a Boss, unfortunately, received mediocre ratings and flopped in the box office, but it is still a fun time full of laughs with great performances and chemistry from the cast. For those who did enjoy Like a Boss, here are ten hilarious female-led comedies that you will also like.

10 The Other Woman

The Other Woman is a comedy about three different women, a corporate lawyer named Carly (Cameron Diaz), a stay-at-home housewife named Kate (Leslie Mann), and a young woman, presumably a model, named Amber (Kate Upton), who are all romantically involved with the same man: Mark (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau).

The three women discover Mark’s relationships with each other, leading them to bond and seek revenge on him. The film is hilarious and empowering for women everywhere. Instead of sabotaging each other, they bring each other up, which is something we need to see more of in film.

9 Rough Night

Rough Night is a darker comedy than the others on this list. It is about a group of old college friends. Jess (Scarlett Johansson), Alice (Jillian Bell), Frankie (Ilana Glazer), and Blair (Zoe Kravitz), joined by Jess’s friend from her semester abroad, Pippa (Kate McKinnon). The group reunited because Jess is engaged to be married and they want to party together one last time. Their partying leads to a night gone awry after they accidentally kill the stripper they hired.

In spite of the darker tone, Rough Night offers plenty of opportunities for laughs with talented comedians like Glazer and McKinnon in the cast.

8 The Spy Who Dumped Me

The Spy Who Dumped Me is yet another film where Kate McKinnon’s comedic talent shines. She stars as Morgan opposite Mila Kunis, who plays Audrey. Audrey gets dumped by her boyfriend Drew (Justin Theroux) over text. When trying to get over him, she is briefly captured by a CIA agent named Sebastian (Sam Heughan) who informs her that Drew is an agent and has gone missing. Audrey and Morgan then find themselves in Europe, carrying a flash drive containing important information, and being chased by assassins looking to sell the information.

Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon make a great comedic duo and the film, similar to Like a Boss, shows that women can make funny buddy comedy films.

7 Legally Blonde

Legally Blonde is an iconic comedy about Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) after she is accepted to Harvard Law. She then attends the school in an attempt to win back her ex-boyfriend, Warner Huntington III (Matthew Davis). Instead of winning back her ex, she learns that she has a passion for law and becomes a powerhouse lawyer while still in law school.

Reese Witherspoon is hilarious, the story is well-written, and there are strong feminist themes that tell women it is up to themselves to define their worth and not up to men. This film also features comedic actress Jennifer Coolidge, who plays a minor role in Like a Boss!

6 Bridesmaids

Bridesmaids follows Annie (Kristen Wiig), a down-on-her-luck former bakery owner who feels nothing in her life is going right. She is asked to be her best friend Lillian’s (Maya Rudolph) maid of honor and takes on all the duties the role entails. While Annie is in charge, everything goes wrong. She is relieved of her duties, which are taken over by Helen (Rose Byrne). Helen eventually needed Annie’s help finding Lillian who disappeared on the day of her wedding. The women reconcile and Annie is once again the maid of honor.

If viewers enjoyed Rose Byrne’s performance in Like a Boss, they are sure to enjoy her work in Bridesmaids. Furthermore, Bridesmaids is made up entirely of a talented comedic cast with Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Ellie Kemper, and Melissa McCarthy also in major roles.

5 Little

Little is the story of Jordan Sanders (Regina Hall), who was bullied as a child and grows up to be a bully as an adult. She runs her own company and treats all of her employees and subordinates, including her assistant April (Issa Rae) poorly. She one day wakes up as her thirteen-year-old self (played by Marsai Martin) and must learn to treat other people better to become an adult again.

The film concept was developed by Marsai Martin at ten years old, who was inspired by the movie Big. She was fourteen when the film was produced, with herself as an executive producer. She and Issa Rae make a hilarious duo, aided by Regina Hall’s stellar, and also funny, acting.

4 The Devil Wears Prada

The Devil Wears Prada is about Andy (Anne Hathaway), who is hired as a junior personal assistant for the editor-in-chief of the magazine Runway, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). Miranda is a nightmare of a boss, but Andy deals with being treated poorly in the hopes of landing a better job in journalism in the future.

Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep on their own are incredibly talented actresses in both comedic and dramatic roles. They are joined by talented actors Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. This film, like Like a Boss, also offers moments of empowerment and catharsis for women who wish to be able to stand up for their individuality and their creativity.

3 Late Night

Late Night is about Katherine Newbury (Emma Thompson), a late-night comedy television host who is on the brink of losing her show to a younger male comedian, Daniel Tennant (Ike Barinholtz). Out of desperation, Katherine hires Molly Patel (Mindy Kaling), who is not very experienced in comedy writing but can hold her own in the writers’ room once given a chance.

The script to Late Night was written by Mindy Kaling herself and the film was directed by Nisha Ganatra, known for her work on the television show Transparent. Thompson and Kaling are hilarious together and are great at balancing the more dramatic scenes with the comedic ones.

2 What Men Want

What Men Want is about Ali (Taraji P. Henson), a sports agent up for a promotion but gets passed over for someone else because, as a woman, she apparently cannot relate to men. After a head injury, she finds that she can hear the thoughts of men and uses this ability to get ahead in her agency and attempt to sign an up-and-coming basketball player, Jamal Barry (Shane Paul McGhie).

The film is a reimagining of What Women Want and showcases Taraji P. Henson’s comedic chops while also featuring a strong supporting cast such as Tamala Jones and Phoebe Robinson.

1 Girls Trip

Girls Trip is about four life-long friends, Ryan (Regina Hall), Sasha (Queen Latifah), Lisa (Jada Pinkett Smith), and Dina (Tiffany Haddish), who decide to reconnect by taking a trip down to the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans. Conflict and comedy arise in their attempts to reconnect due to simultaneous attempts to further their own careers, at times at each others’ expenses.

Girls Trip featured veteran comedians Hall, Pinkett Smith, and Latifah while also acting as a breakout role for Haddish. Her characters in Girls Trip and Like a Boss are similar in personality and bring a lot of laughs for viewers.
