Batwoman was the latest DC hero to join the Arrowverse last season as Kate Kane came to life on The CW. The ever-growing franchise was finally able to play around with the Bat-mythology after years of being restricted from using any Gotham City characters. While Bruce Wayne is MIA, his cousin Kate has picked up his crusade to protect the city they love. However, unlike other DC TV shows, Batwoman is going through a change that is a first for the Arrowverse. After portraying her for one season, Ruby Rose departed the series ahead of the second season.

Javicia Leslie will be taking over the cowl and mantle as a brand new character named Ryan Wilder. This became a big surprise for not just Batwoman fans, but DC TV viewers in general since this has never happened with any other leads. But as the world gets ready for Leslie’s debut, the first season managed to generate a ton of fan-art and memes that spotlights the funnier aspects of the show.

10 Way Over His Head

August Cartwright was one of the handful recurring foes that Team Batwoman went up against as he tied into how Beth became Alice. Thankfully, the villain didn’t survive the first season, even though it was an accidental kill by Kate.

However, Cartwright, as insane as he was, had no idea what he was getting himself into by messing with the Kane family. The meme demonstrates how screwed he truly was by Kate, Jacob, and even the viewers.

9 Kate’s Passion For Sophie

The beginning of Batwoman teased the complicated relationship between Kate and her old flame Sophie Moore. While fans will never see their dynamic go further, Kate definitely had her eyes on Sophie multiple times during the season. Despite being married, Kate made it clear that she was hoping for her and Sophie to get back together.

That’s why this meme is as understandable as it is because Kate had to read Sophie’s vibes every time they were getting close. Sadly, whatever they had in mind for them in the second season will never be revealed as Kate disappears.

8 Gotham Citizens’ Biggest Challenge

Out of all the cities in the DC Universe, Gotham City probably is the worst one to live in. That’s not to say that Metropolis or Central City is error-free because they simply aren’t.

However, with all the maniacs and wild cards running around in Gotham, it’s a wonder why anyone still chooses to live there. Ever since Kate took on the Bat-mantle, it’s likely a nightmare for any Gotham citizens to even just walk the streets.

7 How The Kanes Dropped Alice

Even though Alice is a villain and has caused so much pain, getting screwed over by her family the way she did was surprisingly heartbreaking. Kate managed to get Alice locked up at Arkham through manipulation which definitely didn’t sit well with the foe. Even though Alice basically deserves it, it’s still about how she got there that sting.

If Alice had any care for people or life as a whole, that probably went out the window the moment she got betrayed by her own sister. But then again, it’s not like Alice is innocent in this case.

6 Jacob Kane’s Marvel Spirit

The way Batwoman has depicted Jacob Kane is intriguing compared to the comics. While Jacob and Kate definitely had their differences, at least he knew that she is Batwoman.

The season finale made their situation even more complicated as Jacob is now leading a massive hunt for Batwoman, not knowing it’s his daughter. In many ways, Jacob is the J. Jonah Jameson of the Arrowverse as his obsession with the caped heroine echoes the energy that the Daily Bugle editor has for the web-slinger.

5 Batwoman Vs The Press

One of the biggest aspects of Batwoman is that she is one of the primary LGBT characters in the DC Universe. It has been a big element to her character ever since she was reimagined in 2006. The TV series definitely focused on her sexuality throughout season 1.

However, it definitely didn’t sit well with Kate when the media labeled her as heterosexual. But thanks to a fellow super-friend, Kate made Batwoman come out as gay to Gotham City.

4 How Kate Neglected Mary’s Surprise

The biggest sunshine in the entire cast of characters is, without doubt, Mary Hamilton, Kate’s stepsister. While Kate got to be the broody one in the family, Mary was the complete opposite.

They did, however, come a long way by the end of the season. Sadly, with Rose’s departure, the step-sisters’ dynamic won’t be able to continue. But that doesn’t negate the energy of this meme that captures their respective energies, hilariously.

3 Luke’s Biggest Struggle

Similarly to his late father, Luke Fox got the job of having to work with a stubborn Caped Crusader. Even though Kate was new in the game, Bruce’s cousin still insisted on mostly disobeying Luke.

While she did whatever she wanted, Luke had to patiently and hilariously sit in the Batcave and observe it all. It’s a miracle that he didn’t have a breakdown during season 1. Hopefully, Ryan Wilder will be an easier ally to work with.

2 Make Up Your Mind

The moment Kate discovered that Alice was none other than her long-lost twin sister Beth, Batwoman did everything to save her soul. But since Alice is the way she is, she made it clear that Kate shouldn’t invest any hope in trying to save her.

Eventually, it got to a point in the season where Kate actually did give up on her villainous sister. But yet it stunned Alice that Kate actually went through with it.

1 Hatred For Codebreakers

Alice and Hush became quite the power duo by Batwoman season 1’s end, especially now that Tommy Elliott looks like Bruce Wayne. However, something that kept getting in the way for the foes was all those codebreakers. The fact that they didn’t drive themselves crazy from being blocked is a surprise.

However, it made it abundantly clear that they’d enjoying nothing more than getting rid of every codebreaker in Gotham City. Since Kate isn’t returning next season, only time will tell what Hush and Alice’s roles will be like.
