10 Most Powerful Kaiju In The DC Universe, Ranked

Giant monsters fighting heroes, villains, or each other is a beloved multimedia spectacle, be it Godzilla fighting King Kong or Jaegers battling interdimensional aliens in Pacific Rim. Superhero stories are no stranger to these events, with superheroes routinely banding together to fight some giant threat.

The DC Universe features a plethora of Kaiju characters that range from heroes to villains to misunderstood creatures. However, some are more powerful than others, with some even being godlike. With Starro The Conquerer making his live-action debut in The Suicide Squad, it’s time the Kaiju of the DC mythos get their due.

10 Giganta

This particularly popular Wonder Woman villain has seen many and rather strange origin stories. Now, she is more famous for being a scientist who tried to cure her blood disease, resulting in her gaining the ability to grow to hundreds of feet tall in seconds.

The consistent feature about Doris Zuel, AKA Giganta, is her Kaiju size, giving her immense strength and durability. Not only can she destroy city buildings with ease, but she provides a genuine challenge for a demigod such as Wonder Woman. Initially, Giganta was a mindless beast when she transformed, but, over time, she learned to retain her Doris Zuel intellect, which made her an even deadlier threat.

9 Atom Smasher

Also known as Nuklon, Al Rothstein has the ability to grow to massive sizes much like Giganta. Atom Smasher has super strength and durability; when he was Nuklon, he had the bonus of altering his tangibility, allowing him to phase through solid objects similar to the Martian Manhunter.

What holds back Atom Smasher from being an even more revered character are his dubious acts. He often bounces between hero and anti-hero, joining Black Adam, then fighting him to rejoin the Justice Society. It makes Atom Smasher a difficult hero to rely on, especially since he often is weighed down by his guilt and burdens.

8 Titano The Super Ape

Titano was originally a regular chimp named Toto who suffered abuse for others’ amusement, with Lois Lane being the only person who treated him kindly. When he was exposed to uranium and kryptonite, it transformed him into a massive ape that even Godzilla would be scared of.

The transformation gave Titano incredible strength, but he was a perfect weapon against Superman, now having kryptonite vision. Despite all that power, Titano is not a monster, but that same scared little chimp that was treated as a monster, clearly a tragic angle inspired by King Kong. If Titano was more malicious, he likely would have destroyed all of Metropolis with ease.

7 Karaqan

This creature goes by many names depending on the incarnation: Karaqan, the Karathen—or what most might know as, the Kraken. It is a massive creature that can destroy the largest of ships within seconds, wielding tentacles, claws, and teeth straight out of an aquatic horror film like Underwater.

In the comics, it has been depicted as the immortal protector of Atlantis. In others, however, it is a monstrous villain, and the film version sees it as the protector of the Trident Of Atlan. In all versions, it is easily the most powerful creature living in the oceans which all other creatures and kingdoms fear, respect, or both.

6 Chemo

Chemo is a being created from an assortment of experimental chemicals, resulting in a walking weapon of mass destruction. With a simple step, it poisons and kills anything living within a certain radius. It has the ability to project streams of its chemicals and emit radiation, both able to seemingly melt through anything.

Unlike other villains on this list, Chemo does not have a strategy or plan, it simply lives to destroy anything in its path. It shows very little intelligence and seems to work only on instinct. In a way, it’s similar to Hedorah, one of Godzilla’s best enemies.

5 Starro The Conquerer

At first glance, Starro looks ridiculous, but the comics over the years have evolved the character to have many horror elements, including the ability to produce parasites that latch to the faces of victims. In turn, this makes an army of zombies under Starro’s control. Starro has received more popularity after his cinematic debut as one of the best characters in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.

Of course, he is massive and can deal a large amount of damage, much like other kaiju but the more people he turns into his slaves, the more powerful he becomes. In the film version, he was given smaller tendrils that sprout from his limbs to fling his enemies or tear them apart.

4 The Centre

A more lesser-known villain, The Centre is a sentient island that has existed on Earth long before humans have. As it witnessed humans become more and more powerful and destructive, it decided to eradicate them in order to save the planet. It has only appeared in the Elseworld story DC’s The New Frontier.

What makes The Centre rank so high is its many abilities; it possesses powerful telepathic abilities, being able to take control of a human and speak through them from any part of the Earth. It was able to nearly kill Superman with one blast of energy, it can fly, create armies of prehistoric monsters, and was nearly indestructible.

3 Trigon

In many ways, Trigon is the devil figure of the DC universe, even more than the actual Lucifer Morningstar from DC. Though he can take many forms that he wishes, his default look is a towering behemoth with six eyes, red skin, horns, and long white locks of hair. His size tends to vary on the artists, story, and depiction, but he’s usually towering over those he meets.

Trigon has the ability to corrupt souls and make them his slaves, has the power to destroy universes—and has done so in the past—and features a plethora of abilities including pyrokinesis, telekinesis, telepathy, shapeshifting, energy manipulation, speed, strength, and so much more. It’s only because of his own daughter, Raven, that Trigon remains in his realm, unable to conquer Earth.

2 Anti-Monitor

With the ability to control anti-matter, the Anti-Monitor threatened all of existence. He started the famous Crisis On Infinite Earths which the CW adapted to create the new DC Multiverse of film and TV, destroying the Multiverse with anti-matter until a band of heroes barely managed to overcome the Anti-Monitor and restart the Multiverse.

The Anti-Monitor features a vast array of abilities that seems endless. He matches nearly every hero he faces, an,d of course, he can reach towering heights. The Anti-Monitor is one of, if not the most powerful being in the Multiverse, with only one other being is stronger than him—his mother.

1 Perpetua

The Multiverse was created by the being known as Perpetua, the mother of both the Monitor and the Anti-Monitor. Given that she can hold planets within her palm, it’s easy to see why she is the most powerful. Perpetua can manipulate and control anything she wants, and, to her, destroying Earth would be akin to squishing a grape.

However, she feeds off the death and destruction that life brings to give her eternal life and power over other Super Celestials. Perpetua was able to transform worlds with ease as well as destroy any universe that did not agree to her terms. The only threat to her is the Justice League, but she hints that there are others of her race that are potentially a threat if she does not retain her power.
