Obi-Wan Kenobi unveiled its first teaser trailer, and the upcoming Disney+ streaming series promises to deliver many powerful moments featuring the iconic Jedi Master. Obi-Wan is at the center of some of the most powerful moments in movie history, including epic scenes from both the original and prequel trilogies.

Obi-Wan’s character arc throughout the Star Wars saga is truly mythic, evolving from an apprentice who loses everything to a master who sacrifices everything for the hope of the galaxy. One of the greatest characters of all time, Obi-Wan’s story is powerful from start to finish.

10 No Blasters

The first true display of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s power as a Jedi is one of the most powerful moments in all of Star Wars. Obi-Wan ignites his lightsaber for the first time as the bartender Wuher shouts “No blasters!” When Ponda Baba and Dr. Evazan start pushing Luke around in the Mos Eisley cantina, Obi-Wan settles things quickly and calmly by cutting off Ponda Baba’s arm. It’s a staggering display of power and the first indication that despite his age and claims of being too old, Obi-Wan is more than able to handle the challenges in front of them.

9 Alone Against Count Dooku

Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy, but he more than met his match when up against Count Dooku. Nevertheless, Obi-Wan took on Dooku alone in the climax of Attack Of The Clones after Anakin Skywalker rashly charged into battle and was summarily dismissed. Obi-Wan held his own against Dooku, who was clearly holding back. Dooku, a former Jedi and Sith Lord, was playing with Obi-Wan and taunted him until he finally injured the Jedi. Still, Obi-Wan’s bravery and commitment were powerful.

8 Confronting Padme

One of the most powerful scenes in Star Wars doesn’t involve lightsabers at all, but the cold, hard truth. One of the best scenes in Revenge Of The Sith sees Obi-Wan confront Padme over Anakin’s actions. Padme claims not to know where Anakin is, but the truth finally comes out and Padme realizes the true horror of what Anakin has done at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Obi-Wan also realizes that Padme is pregnant, making his ultimate mission to destroy Anakin at all costs even more sobering.

7 Avenging Qui-Gon

A lot of things about The Phantom Menace still hold up today, and one of them is the epic duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul. The fight takes on a ferocity unrivaled in the entire franchise as Obi-Wan seeks to avenge his fallen master Qui-Gon Jinn against the powerful Sith apprentice.

The speed and viciousness of the duel between Obi-Wan and Maul remain visceral over twenty years later, with Obi-Wan’s anger driving him in ways that are in sharp contrast to how the wise old Jedi Master would behave later.

6 From A Certain Point Of View

One of the most powerful moments in Return Of The Jedi adds enormous dimension to Obi-Wan’s character. After Yoda dies, Obi-Wan’s Force Ghost appears to Luke Skywalker and explains that his lies about Darth Vader’s true identity were true ‘from a certain point of view.’ This line has come to define Obi-Wan.

Obi-Wan’s justification for misleading Luke may have had some practical purpose, but the revelation that the venerable Jedi was not above lying did complicate his character greatly in the minds of fans.

5 The Last Duel

Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul would confront each other again, one last time, in one of the best episodes of Star Wars: Rebels. Maul discovers Obi-Wan and Tatooine and the two face off one last time. This time, it’s not a huge battle between two heated enemies. It’s quick, decisive, and surprisingly humane. Obi-Wan shows his humanity by cradling Maul as he dies and finding some sort of peace with his former enemy by promising him that Luke Skywalker is the Chosen One, and there will be balance in the Force.

4 Into The Desert

One of the most powerful moments for Obi-Wan is fleeting, but profound. At the end of Revenge Of The Sith, Obi-Wan delivers the infant Luke Skywalker to Owen and Beru Lars on Tatooine. As they take the baby, he pauses a moment to reflect on all that has happened and all that lies ahead. Obi-Wan then turns to the desert he will call home for the rest of his life. The upcoming streaming series will be the first story in canon to explore this mysterious period of Obi-Wan’s life, and the impact it had on him.

3 Master And Apprentice

Obi-Wan cements his icon status in one of the most seminal and powerful scenes in Star Wars. He presents Luke with his father’s lightsaber and compels him to become a Jedi like Anakin. This scene has tremendous mythic weight, as much for Luke as Obi-Wan.

Obi-Wan’s call for Luke to go to Alderaan with him is also layered with enormous bits of lore, like the Clone Wars, which would become integral to the entire franchise. Obi-Wan also displays some wariness about the death of Anakin Skywalker, which fans would learn was for a very good reason.

2 You Were The Chosen One

The epic duel between Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar is truly epic and ends with one of the most powerful moments in the franchise. After Obi-Wan gravely injures his friend and former apprentice, Obi-Wan erupts in his trust real display of emotion in the movie. “You were the Chosen One!” he shouts to Anakin, voicing his pain and anguish at Anakin’s murderous actions. His pain is for having to cut down his friend and brother, something that clearly haunted him for the rest of his life.

1 More Powerful Than You Can Possibly Imagine

Obi-Wan’s most powerful moment in Star Wars comes when he sacrifices his life to save the young heroes in his charge. Obi-Wan duels Darth Vader to something of a stalemate, and then tells his former apprentice “If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.” This quickly becomes true and Obi-Wan’s death and resurrection in the Force become the foundation for decades of storytelling. He watches over Luke – and eventually Rey – from beyond the grave, and his noble sacrifice would be echoed in Luke’s as well.
