Spider-Man: No Way Home dives into the Marvel multiverse in a big way. Fans know there are endless versions of Spider-Man in Marvel Comics, but there are also many powerful variants of Mary Jane Watson as well. While not all of them have superpowers, many of them have power and influence beyond that of the ordinary Mary Jane from the mainline continuity of Earth-616.

Mary Jane’s greatest powers are her intelligence and determination, often on full display throughout many of her modern incarnations in the comics. Some versions do gain superpowers and in some iterations of the character, she’s actually the Spider-Woman of her universe, with all the powers of Spider-Man and then some.

Ultimate Mary Jane

The Ultimate Comics universe of Earth-1610 presented a younger Mary Jane who was as smart as if not smarter than Peter Parker. Her intelligence made her a natural and necessary ally for Spider-Man early on, as he often faced major threats that were borne of scientific problems, like the Venom symbiote actually being the product of a lab experiment.

Mary Jane has much more agency in this universe and is much more assertive. Rather than hide her feelings and true self behind a party-girl persona as she does in Earth-616, Mary Jane is forthright and undaunted in her support of Peter Parker.

MC2 Mary Jane

The MC2 universe features one of the best alternate versions of Spider-Woman. That’s not Mary Jane Watson, but this variant of MJ is also very powerful. Mary Jane is the mother of Spider-Girl, and she operates the merchandising of her daughter’s heroic identity, making her a very wealthy and influential figure.

Mary Jane uses her power and influence for good, helping other people and using her money to pay for the education of her children. She’s also fearless in confrontation with the enemies of her daughter, including a completely unprepared version of Green Goblin.

Mary Jane In “What If… Kraven The Hunter Had Killed Spider-Man?”

There are many strange realities from the What If comic books. One of the darkest involves Kraven killing Spider-Man. It doesn’t end there, as Mary Jane marshals a group of superheroes including Captain America, the Human Torch, and Daredevil to get justice for her friend and lover.

This version of Mary Jane is one of the most powerful in a practical sense as she proves herself as a leader and a hero in her own right. Mary Jane takes up the cause of clearing Peter Parker’s name, which had been slandered in the press by Kraven, and she becomes an influential figure in her world as a result.

Iron Spider Mary Jane

Mary Jane rarely gets involved in superhero activities in the main universe of Earth-616, but when she does, it’s always interesting. In Amazing Spider-Man #15, Mary Jane donned the Iron Spider armor, gaining all of its ability and becoming very powerful.

The Iron Spider armor gives her all the technical ability of Iron Man (who designed the suit), including its four metal arms that can pierce most materials. She was also protected against most forms of conventional attack and had limited gliding capability as well.

Mary Jane In “Spider-Island”

There was a time in Earth-616 when Mary Jane actually developed spider-powers of her own. During the Spider-Island crossover, which represents some of the best Spider-Man comics of the 2010s, Mary Jane gained Spider-Man’s abilities after a virus mutated all of New York City into spider-creatures.

Able to generate webs and possessed with increased strength and agility, Mary Jane helped Spider-Man cure the city. She also briefly donned the Spider-Man costume, becoming for a brief time one of the many variants of Spider-Man throughout the comics.

Mary Jane In Marvel Zombies

One of the most powerful variants of Mary Jane in the comics is also one of the most frightening. In the Marvel Zombies comic book universe, she was bitten by a zombie Spider-Man and turned into a zombie herself, transforming her into one of the undead.

Her ability to survive beyond death and also retain her personality and intelligence makes her one of the most horrifically powerful Mary Janes in the comics, but her fate would end up even more grisly. She ultimately was destroyed by a zombie Sinister Six.

Mary Jane In Exiles

The Earth-8645 version of Mary Jane Watson is officially Spider-Woman, and one of the most naturally powerful versions of the character. She has all the powers of Spider-Man, including the ability to lift an enormous amount of weight, crawl on surfaces, and heal quickly.

This version appeared in the Exiles comic book series, which visited endless realities. As the multiverse continues to expand in the MCU and in the animated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse movie, this version of Mary Jane is a likely candidate to appear.

Mary Jane In Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows

Many future timelines in Marvel Comics are dark. Some aren’t, and the Mary Jane Watson of the Renew Your Vows future is one of the most positive and powerful. This Mary Jane wears a specialized suit of armor that replicates all of Spider-Man’s powers.

She’s able to sling webs and fight supervillains with her increased strength alongside not only her husband but also their daughter, Annie May Parker. The Spider-Family together are some of the most powerful Spider-People in Marvel Comics.

Marvel Mangaverse Mary Jane

Another powerful version of Mary Jane Watson becomes Spider-Woman in the Marvel Mangaverse. This version of the character shares the same powerset as the Jessica Drew Spider-Woman from Earth-1610, including a heightened Spider-Sense and organic webbing.

Her costume closely models that of the Earth-616 Jessica Drew in its red-and-orange color scheme. She is very different from Jessica and most Mary Janes, though. She’s a member of the Spider-Ninja clan alongside Peter Parker, making her one of the most gifted martial artists in this universe and perhaps others.
