10 Movies Starring The Supernatural Cast You Didn’t Know About

There’s no fandom like the one we have for The CW’s Supernatural, and each year new fans join due to the show’s longevity. The main cast has now become most famous for starring in this juggernaut of a show, which clouds the fact that the actors have had roles in films too.

Now that we’re in the final season of the show after fifteen years, you might want to check out the range these actors have since they will most likely be starring in separate roles in the future. And there’s no better way to learn more about them than checking out these 10 movies starring the Supernatural cast you didn’t know about.

10 Jensen Ackles – Batman: Under The Red Hood (2010)

It’s a shame Jensen Ackles hasn’t stepped beyond Supernatural for almost a decade because he could’ve made a killing as a voice actor. Case in point is his role as the Red Hood in this Batman film. 

Jensen plays the anti-hero version of Jason Todd who seeks to kill the Joker for what he did to him. His acting is incredible in this feature, where you get the sense of pain and betrayal Todd felt over Batman letting him seemingly die. Since the film wasn’t heavily promoted, only a few know Jensen has also been a major DC comic character alongside being Dean Winchester.

9 Alexander Calvert – The Edge Of Seventeen (2016)

It was right before Alex debuted in Season 12 of Supernatural that Edge of Seventeen was released, which means that at the time he was only seen as the jerk love interest of Hailee Steinfeld’s character and not everyone’s lovable Nephilim.

As it happened, he portrayed the object of affection of the main character, who then turned out to only want to use her for physical pleasure, leading to him being portrayed as the villain of the movie. Now that he’s been the nicest character you can find on TV for more than two years, it’s hard to believe Alex had been on the big screen as a total jerk.

8 Mark Sheppard – Jules Verne’s Mysterious Island (2010)

Not only did Mark have an appearance in this movie, but it was also actually the directorial effort by the actor. The movie is scarcely known, though, since it was only released on DVD and on VOD in 2012; plus, Mark is known chiefly as an actor rather than a director.

Regardless, the film has an interesting concept of an alternate American Civil War, where five prisoners escape using a hot air balloon and encounter horrors beyond what they could’ve imagined. Also featured in a prominent role is Mark’s own father as the elder version of his character.

7 Adrianne Palicki – Dr. Cabbie (2014)

Adrianne was among the first actors seen on Supernatural due to her role as Sam’s deceased girlfriend Jessica. Despite her having been on the show for only a handful of episodes, every fan remembers her because of her significance.

What you might not know is that Adrianne was in a Hollywood-Bollywood mash-up of a film not too long ago in Dr. Cabbie, which tells the story of an Indian man who moves abroad and becomes a cab driver moonlighting as a doctor. Adrianne plays the main character’s love interest, with the film also prominently featuring The Big Bang Theory’s Kunal Nayyar.

6 Jeffrey Dean Morgan – The Losers (2010)

Your eyes are not deceiving you; before Captain America, Heimdall, and Gamora were a thing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the three actors played supporting roles to Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character in The Losers.

The film is comparable to The A-Team, where a dysfunctional group of people with certain skills band together to stop a larger threat. Jeffrey has the lead role in the film, and it came at a time which is sandwiched between him being John Winchester and his eventual role as Negan in The Walking Dead.

5 Katie Cassidy – Taken (2008)

You might know Katie better in Arrow these days, but she got her big role in a CW show earlier on when she was a main character on Supernatural in Season 3 as Ruby’s first vessel.

Around the same time, Katie was also branching into film territory, where she landed a role in Liam Neeson’s Taken. Of course, since Katie was quite young at the time and wasn’t playing the role of Liam Neeson’s daughter, it’s not common knowledge that she was once the innocent onscreen victim of human trafficking. People now would wonder why she didn’t just use her demon powers to get out of trouble.

4 Lauren Cohan – Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj (2006)

Along with Katie Cassidey, Lauren Cohan was also a main character in Season 3 of Supernatural, where she portrayed the antagonistic Bela Talbot. In Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj, she has a forgettable role in a film most people would want to forget. 

It’s an American Pie style comedy starring people much too old to be in that type of film, with Lauren having a role that was clearly not for someone of her acting talents she showed off later in The Walking Dead, as her character was there just for eye candy purposes. Thankfully, nobody really remembers this movie.

3 Mark Pellegrino – The Big Lebowski (1998)

It looks like Mark has always been pretty devilish like the character he would eventually portray, as he played the role of a thug in The Big Lebowski who mistakenly assumed The Dude to be the Lebowski he was supposed to be getting money from. 

Even though the scene where he ambushes The Dude is a popular one (the rug really did tie the room together), Mark isn’t recognizable by today’s standards due to him sporting a teenage boy’s haircut, having blond hair, and looking pretty ripped. Now that you know it really is him, watching The Big Lebowski will get even better.

2 Misha Collins – Girl, Interrupted (1999)

Angelina Jolie won an Oscar for this movie, but after finding out that Misha is in this as well, Supernatural fans will only watch it for him, that’s for sure. However, he has a very small role as a guy who tries to hit on Winona Ryder’s character.

Still, he’s pretty distinct as someone who assumes all crazy people are supposed to see the color purple. It’s also your chance to see a Misha in his 20s, and he carries that boyish swagger well. Plus, any time we get to hear his actual voice instead of his Castiel voice is worth a watch.

1 Jared Padalecki – New York Minute (2004)

Before he was the badass Sam Winchester slicing and dicing monsters, Jared was a heartthrob known for making appearances as a young man girls wanted to swoon over. His Gilmore Girls role is well-known, but most people forget he was also the lead in New York Minute starring the Olsen Sisters. 

While these girls can’t fight superhero characters like their younger sister does as Scarlet Witch, they can boast about having shared the screen with Jared Padalecki of Supernatural fame. The film, although geared towards a teenage audience, is surprisingly a pretty fun affair as all the characters race around New York City with one hijinks unfolding after another.
