ABC’s Pretty Little Liars started out with a bang: four estranged beautiful girls all get a text from an unknown number at their mutual friend’s funeral. Their bully is simply signed as “A”. They are frightened and worried, but can’t let it show because they have to keep up appearances at their local high school. Even though their lives seem to be falling apart, they still find time for romance and rocking cool outfits.

High schools make for a popular teen movie setting and the more mystery and drama there is, the better. Pretty Little Liars‘ final season aired in 2017 and even though fans have many other TV shows and spin-off series to watch, there are also lots of movies that will satisfy the show’s fans’ cravings.

10 Before I Fall

A teen flick featuring cute girls and an aesthetic similar to Pretty Little Liars, Before I Fall is a story about Samantha, a girl who enjoys the perks of being popular: she has a cool group of friends and a perfect boyfriend. She also makes fun of social outcasts and tends to be mean. After a party, the girls have a car accident, in which Samantha dies.

She wakes up the next day and realizes it’s the same day she just had. The loop keeps on going and Samantha increasingly experiments with it.

9 Easy A

Those who like Pretty Little Liars for high-school drama, ridiculous teen hierarchies and cool outfits (that sadly don’t age well) should watch the iconic 2010 movie Easy A. The movie was a great success and it helped Emma Stone get international recognition.

It’s a comedy that nails the parent dynamic, the consequences of gossiping and the superficiality of what is considered popular. Nothing scary or mysterious ever happens, though.

8 Feed

Fans of Troian Bellisario should watch Feed. Not only is she starring in this 2017 drama, she also wrote the screenplay and produced the whole thing. Just like Pretty Little Liar‘s Spencer, the main character of Feed is also a high school senior and a control freak. After her brother’s death, she is devastated.

Due to the immense grief, her life stars crumbling down. Her friends don’t get along with her anymore and her grades drop dramatically. She feels guilty for her brother’s death, which makes the process of moving on even more complicated.

7 Heathers

Heathers is a dark comedy from 1989 and it stars Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. The main character is Veronica, a popular girl who belongs to a clique of wealthy, beautiful girls. They are all named Heather and that is why the movie is called Heathers.

Enter a mysterious boy called JD who carries a gun and instantly impresses Veronica. After one of the Heathers threatens to tarnish Veronica’s reputation, she asks JD to help her. Since Heathers is about high-school students and murder, the fans of Pretty Little Liars are going to absolutely adore it.

6 Unfriended

Those who liked the creepy parts of Pretty Little Liars, namely being extorted by an unknown person, should watch Unfriended. It’s a horror movie in which a group of friends falls victim to an anonymous cyber bully. At first, they fight back, but it only backlashes. It’s kind of like those texts that A was sending to the girls in Pretty Little Liars.

Without giving too much away, Unfriended also features supernatural forces. Those who prefer to keep things realistic, should probably skip it.

5 Gone Girl

Gone Girl is mysterious, suspenseful and dramatic. While Pretty Little Liars have light-hearted moments and comic situations, Gone Girl is serious, realistic and alarming. After Amy goes missing, her husband becomes the prime suspect.

It’s a story about the twisted psychological games we play with those closest to us and the desire to destroy one another. These two themes prevail throughout all seasons of Pretty Little Liars, so the show’s fans will definitely adore this 2014 hit thriller.

4 Sorority Row

Even though the girls in Pretty Little Liars are not in a sorority, they certainly sometimes act as if they were. Sorority Row is a horror movie with quite a lot of violence. After one of the sorority girls dies, the rest of the ladies have to deal with a serial killer.

They have no idea who he or she is, since the mysterious vigilante is always cloaked – something that this movie shares with PLL. Fans often compare this movie to Scream.

3 Now And Then

The main characters in Now And Then are younger than the girls in Pretty Little Liars. This comedic drama tackles teenage angst and other coming-of-age issues, but what makes it resemble the show is that the girls share a big secret: they had an encounter with a ghost, a 12-year-old boy who calls himself Dear Johnny.

The girls decide to investigate his death. Check it out: the screenplay was written by Pretty Little Liars‘ I. Marlene King.

2 Cruel Intentions

Cruel Intentions was one of the biggest romantic dramas that came out in 1999. Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Reese Witherspoon, the plot of the story develops from a weird request that a girl makes to her stepbrother: she wants him to sleep with the headmaster’s daughter. Things get complicated when he falls in love with her and doesn’t want to make a fool out of her.

Even though the movie is 20 years old, it is ageless. Teenagers knew how to make each other’s lives complicated well before smartphones and anonymous texts were invented.

1 I Know What You Did Last Summer

I Know What You Did Last Summer‘s plot will resonate with Pretty Little Liars fans. Just like the girls in the show share a secret, the friends in this slasher classic do. It’s a dark secret: they accidentally killed someone and never reported it.

Because of this secret, they are stalked and hunted by someone who wants to kill them. The movie was such a success that it had two sequels.
