In 2018, it seemed doubtful that the Halloween franchise would have a resurgence. John Carpenter’s original Halloween was an unexpected success when it premiered in 1978. As time went on, Halloween became known as a cliched slasher franchise and even was subject to two Rob Zombie reboots in the mid-aughts. It seemed as though Halloween would never see Jamie Lee Curtis return until David Gordon Green came on the scene.

2018’s Halloween gave a fresh look to the franchise with an older and wiser Laurie Strode returning as a grizzled woman on a mission to end Michael’s evil for good. While Halloween Kills is bringing back actors and characters from the 1978 version like Kyle Richards’ Lindsey, they are not the only recognizable actors in the cast.

10 Jamie Lee Curtis – Knives Out

Jamie Lee Curtis became a household name when she was cast as Laurie Strode in John Carpenter’s Halloween. She is now known as the original Scream Queen, going on to star in movies such as the original Prom Night – not the horror remake featuring Idris Elba. While she is important to the horror genre, Jamie Lee Curtis also has the luck of being cast in Rian Johnson’s recent success Knives Out.

Released on the heels of Johnson’s previous film Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Knives Out proves to be a completely different experience. Curtis plays Linda Drysdale, daughter of recently deceased author Harlan Thrombey. Knives Out is a clever play on the whodunnit mystery format. It is full of twists and turns and Curtis shows the dormant comedic skills that haven’t been used so effectively since 1988’s A Fish Called Wanda.

9 Judy Greer – The Village

Judy Greer is another actor with a plethora of credits viewers may have seen her from. In Halloween Kills, she plays Laurie’s daughter Karen. Her other credits include a wide variety of films such as Ant-ManJawbreaker, and Cursed. No stranger to the horror genre, Greer also starred in M. Night Shyamalan’s 2004 film The Village.

In The Village, Greer plays Kitty, sister to Bryce Dallas Howard’s Ivy, and is a great supporting choice for the film. Though the film centers around Ivy, Greer displays great emotional range as the heartbroken sister who learns to love again.

8 Andi Matichak – 666 Park Avenue

Andi Matichak is a relatively new actress as well as writer and producer. She plays the main character, Allyson, in Halloween Kills, Laurie Strode’s granddaughter. While her list of credits is not long, she has appeared in fan-favorite shows such as Orange Is the New Black. However, one of her more interesting roles was her first one.

Matichak played Shannon on the short-lived ABC series 666 Park Avenue, which debuted in 2012 and only lasted for 13 episodes. It was ABC’s bid to reclaim the magic of fantasy show Lost, even going as far as to cast Terry O’Quinn as the show’s villain. While the series was short-lived, it’s notable for its interesting take on evil in one of New York’s most prestigious neighborhoods.

7 Thomas Mann – Beautiful Creatures

Thomas Mann joins the cast of Halloween Kills as a young version of Will Patton’s Officer Hawkins. Many indie film fans will recognize him as the lead character in Me and Earl and the Dying Girl although this is not Mann’s only claim to fame.

Mann also starred alongside Alden Ehrenreich in 2013’s Beautiful Creatures. Beautiful Creatures was based on the fantasy romance of the same name and was highly underrated. The young actor plays Link, Ethan’s best friend who involuntarily gets drawn into a murderous plot and a coven of secret witches.

6 Will Patton –  Gone in Sixty Seconds

Will Patton returns in Halloween Kills as Sheriff Hawkins. This is an interesting role for him as he often plays entertaining and morally grey characters. In Kevin Costner’s dystopian drama The Postman, Patton plays a sociopathic dictator. It is his role in Gone In 60 Seconds, however, that viewers may know him from best.

A remake of a film of the same name, this one features Nicolas Cage in the lead role in one of his lowest-scoring movies. Patton plays Atley Jackson, the catalyst for Memphis Raines to be drawn back into the car stealing fold. This character is ambiguous but ultimately tries to help Raines and his crew with their near-impossible mission.

5 Dylan Arnold – The Purge Series

Dylan Arnold returns to the Halloween franchise as a fellow survivor of Michael Myers, Cameron Elam. This is not the only horror-related property he has been featured in. He appeared in the first season of The Purge series that aired on the USA network. The show aired for two seasons but was canceled prematurely. USA’s The Purge expanded on the universe of the previous films. Each season was a different Purge Night and followed characters as they attempted to survive and sometimes make the night work in their favor.

Dylan Arnold plays Henry, one of these misguided people that use the Purge for his benefit. An abusive ex-boyfriend, he tries to punish Penelope for leaving him. A stark contrast to his character in Halloween, he is almost unrecognizable in The Purge.

4 Robert Longstreet – Midnight Mass

Robert Longstreet continues his work in the horror genre in Halloween Kills as Lonnie Elam. Previously, he has been a familiar face in many of Mike Flanagan’s horror shows for Netflix. He appears in The Haunting of Hill House, but one of his most challenging roles was as Joe in Midnight Mass. Joe is a recovering alcoholic, unable to bear with the guilt after paralyzing a teenage girl in a hunting accident.

Longstreet’s role in the show turns the story from an uncomfortable show with religion to one that is full of horror. Joe’s struggles with alcoholism and potential for recovery are some of the most realistic aspects of the limited series. Leeza forgiving Joe is one of the saddest moments in Midnight Mass.

3 Anthony Michael Hall – The Breakfast Club

Anthony Michael Hall appears in Halloween Kills as Tommy Doyle, a character from the original Halloween. This character has been reprised several times, but this is the first time that Hall will be portraying him. In his recent career, he has appeared with fleeting roles like in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, and The Dead Zone. He even made an appearance along with John Hughes alum Molly Ringwald in Riverdale.

Like other actors of the era, Hall has made a slight comeback. But no viewer can forget the film that catapulted him to fame. Anthony Michael Hall appears as Brian in one of John Hughes’ best movies, The Breakfast Club. He became a mainstay in John Hughes films and a household name in the 1980s.

2 Kyle Richards – The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills

Halloween Kills does its best to connect the film to John Carpenter’s original movie. Kyle Richards plays Lindsey Wallace in both Halloween and Halloween Kills although she is not the only character to come back. Both Charles Cyphers and Nancy Stephens reprise their roles as Sheriff Brackett and Marion Chambers, respectively. Richards may be easy to miss as she was just a child at the time of the original film’s release.

Richards’ most prolific role is as herself. She has appeared in 244 episodes of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, the most out of anyone in the cast. As of 2021, she is the only original cast member still active in the popular series.

1 Charles Cyphers – Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Charles Cyphers is another actor to return from Carpenter’s original Halloween as Sheriff Leigh Brackett. But that is not his only noticeable credit. He has been a common face in John Carpenter’s films apart from Halloween as he also appears in Assault On Precinct 13 as well as The Fog.

But his horror appearances did not stop there. He also gest stars in an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. After steaming skin starts turning up on the beach around Sunnydale, it seems as though something is amiss. Buffy investigates the swim team who has a history of violence. Cyphers appears as the seemingly innocuous swim coach. But it isn’t before long before Buffy uncovers he is turning his swimmers into fish monsters.
