Blumhouse Productions is a production company that has been behind some pretty major movies in recent years. A lot of the movies that this production company are known for are huge horror movies, meaning that people that like to be scared definitely get excited to learn that this company is working on something new to bring to theaters. There are a lot of really creative horror movies out there and the ones from Blumhouse Productions tend to blend being terrifying with being really clever and sometimes even funny.

The Purge is the first movie in a series of films by the same name. This movie was released in 2013 and is set in a world in which, each year, there is a 12-hour period of time in which all crime is legal. The series started with this first movie that primarily follows a single family on “Purge Night”, but the series has expanded to show the history of the Purge and the political circumstances that have lead to its rise in popularity and impact on the country.

9 Paranormal Activity (6.3)

Released in 2009, Paranormal Activity is the first film in the found footage movie by the same name. The film follows a married couple, Katie and Micah, as they attempt to document and find the source of some bizarre things that have been happening in their home. The movie is told through Micah’s camera and the security cameras in the house and sets up for a franchise that follows the mysterious curse that has haunted Katie’s family for decades.

8 Insidious: Chapter 2 (6.6)

Although most of Blumhouse Production’s most popular films are the first movie in a franchise, this entry on the list is a little different. Insidious: Chapter 2 is the sequel to their terrifying movie Insidious. Like the first movie, this series follows the Lambert family as they continue to struggle with their dark connection to the world of the paranormal and what mysterious demons and entities have invaded their home this time.

7 Glass (6.7)

Glass was released in 2019 and is a movie that was directed by M. Night Shyamalan, a name that is well-known in the movie world for having movies that have some of the most unique and unexpected twists that movie goers could ever experience.

This movie is a crossover and sequel to two other films by the director, Split and Unbreakable. The movie follows David Dunn as he tries to stay out of law enforcement’s gaze while being a vigilante in Philadelphia. This hobby puts him directly in the path of the Beast whose superhuman strength and 23 personalities make him a major danger.

6 Sinister (6.8)

Sinister was released in 2012 and stars Ethan Hawke as Ellison, a true crime writer who is struggling with a serious bout of writer’s block and who hasn’t had a hit released in over a decade. After discovering a mysterious film that shows the death of an entire family, Ellison sets out to try to uncover the mystery of what happened to them. As he finds out, the truth is a lot stranger than he could have ever imagined and he’s left wondering if his book is worth the danger it could put him in.

5 Split (7.3)

Split was released in 2017 and follows a man named Kevin. Kevin has 23 distinct personalities, but his psychiatrist believes that there’s a 24th lurking below the surface that is attempting to break through and overtake the other 23 that Kevin has proven himself to have. The first 23 personalities are forced to try to fight for survival as the 24th threatens to overtake them and cause serious harm for Kevin and all of those around him.

4 Upgrade (7.5)

Upgrade was released in 2018 and follows a man who was the victim of an intense mugging that left him permanently paralyzed and took the life of his spouse. But, there may be an answer to one of those problems when a mysterious and very rich inventor offers to cure his paralysis through an AI implant. Not only does it cure him and leave him able to walk, it also gives him superhuman powers and he sets out to get revenge on the people that attacked him.

3 BlacKkKlansman (7.5)

Although a lot of Blumhouse Productions’ most popular films are horror movies, that’s not the case for all of them. Along with some seriously spooky films like Paranormal Activity, this company also gave us movies like BlacKkKlansman.

The movie is a biopic about Ron Stallworth, a black police officer living in Colorado in the 1970s. As the first black officer in his town, he struggles with moving up in his job and faces a lot of racism from his coworkers. When he’s given an assignment to go undercover within the KKK, things change for him.

2 Get Out (7.7)

Get Out was released in 2017 and is a thriller that was directed by by Jordan Peele. The movie follows a couple, Chris and Rose, who are traveling to Rose’s parents secluded home so that they can meet Chris for the first time. When they first arrive, Rose’s parents, Missy and Dean, are incredibly warm and welcoming. But, it soon becomes apparent to Chris that their over-friendly demeanor might be hiding something horrific that the two of them have planned for him.

1 Whiplash (8.5)

Whiplash is a dramatic movie that stars Miles Teller as Andrew, a talented young jazz drummer who is trying to make it up the ranks of the elite music conservatory that he attends. One of the head instructors at the conservatory takes note of Andrew’s talents and decides to take him under his wing, using his distinctly strange and sometimes terrifying methods of teaching to help Andrew to become a better musician. As his professor pushes him to the limits of his musical ability, his life takes a turn for the worst.
