When most people think of the John Wick movies, the first thing they will probably associate them with is their well choreographed action sequences. However, the Keanu Reeves starring franchise also has its fair share of quotable lines.

John Wick Chapter 2 is no exception to this. The film features a wide variety of great lines, ranging from epic one liners to hilarious jokes. With that in mind, here are ten of the best lines to appear in John Wick Chapter 2.

10 “Rules. Without Them We Live With The Animals.”

Throughout the John Wick films, Continental manager Winston is a treasure trove of great lines, so it is only fitting to start with a quote spoken by him. This line occurs early in John Wick Chapter 2 when John Wick goes to see Winston about Santino D’Antonio. Spoken in an effort to impress upon John how important it is that he handle the situation by the book, this memorable line carries thematic weight as John struggles with being bound by the rules. With this one quote, the film establishes how foundational rules are to the world of the John Wick franchise, brilliantly setting the stage for John Wick Chapter 2‘s shocking ending.

9 “I’d Like A Tasting.”

So begins one of the most fun sequences in a John Wick movie that does not involve John killing bad guys. John delivers this line at the Continental in Rome when he goes to prepare for his mission. The following scene, in which the Continental’s Sommelier displays a wide variety of firearms to John, is one of the most entertaining gear up sequences in cinema history because of the overly formal dialogue in which the weapons are spoken of as though they were fine wines. It would not work without this quotable line to set it up, and both actors sell the moment beautifully.

8 “I Can Assure You, That The Stories You Hear About This Man, If Nothing Else, Has Been Watered Down.”

One of the best parts of the John Wick films is getting to see how scared bad guys get when they hear John’s name. This is due to the legend that follows his name, and every scene where this is mentioned brings with it an epic line teasing how badass John is.

In this case, mobster Abram Tarasov is informing his associate of how much trouble they are in because they have John’s car in their garage. Considering all of the deeds Abram has attributed to John before saying this line, it is difficult to blame him for being nervous about his situation.

7 “Consider This A Professional Courtesy.”

This line appears twice in the film. The first time it is spoken by Cassian when he buys John a drink after a fight. The second time is when John beats him in a fight but gives him an opportunity to survive. As such, this line perfectly encapsulates the relationships between the assassins of this world. They may from time to time be enemies or rivals, but there is still a certain amount of mutual respect between them.

6 “What Would Your Helen Think About You?”

Spoken by Gianna D’Antonio when John comes to kill her, this poignant line gets to the heart of the narrative of the John Wick series. Ever since the puppy his wife gave him was killed in the first film, John has been on a downward spiral as he has gradually slipped back into the Baba Yaga persona. The sad part of this is that this recession is the very thing Helen was trying to prevent by giving him the puppy.

John claims in the third film that he is fighting so he can remember his wife, but this observation points out the irony of this given that Helen would likely be heartbroken to see John now.

5 “I’ve Lived My Life My Way, And I’ll Die My Way.”

This is another line spoken by Gianna. After cutting her own wrists before John can kill her, John asks why. This line is her response, and it perfectly describes the mindset of her character. As she goes on to explain, she thought she would be able to evade death. Once John presence makes it clear that she cannot escape it, however, she chooses to take her own life rather than allowing her brother the satisfaction of successfully murdering her. She also may have been trying to spare John’s conscience, giving this line a heroic implication.

4 “This Kingdom Is Mine, And Mine Alone.”

This epic line is delivered by Winston toward the end of the film when Santino tries to power move him into revoking John’s membership to the Continental. At this point in the film, Winston is very much done with Santino and is not taking anything from him. So he interrupts Santino’s demand making in order to drop this bomb of a line on him. Combined with Ian McShane’s harsh delivery, this is one of the most memorable Winston moments in the franchise.

3 “It’s Christmas. We’re Going To Applebee’s After This.”

Honestly, this entire list could have been dialogue from Laurence Fishburne’s iconic Bowery King, but this one is easily his best line. Appearing after the Bowery King asks how much the bounty is for John, he follows up with this good natured line.

First of all, it is the single funniest line in the whole movie, possibly even the funniest line in all three movies. But more importantly, it represents everything that needs to be known about the Bowery King. His sarcastic delivery demonstrates how much he just does not care about the dealings of the High Table.

2 “You Stabbed The Devil In The Back…”

So begins one of the best monologues in the John Wick franchise, which is of course delivered by Winston. He makes this speech to Santino after John is freed from the marker, essentially threatening Santino for John. This amazing monologue speaks for itself: “You stabbed the devil in the back, and forced him back into the life that he had just left. You incinerated the priest’s temple, burned it to the ground. Now he’s free of the marker. What do you think he’ll do? He had a glimpse of the other side, and he embraced it. But you, Senor D’Antonio, took it away from him.”

1 “You Want A War, Or Do You Want To Just Give Me A Gun?”

A list of best lines from a John Wick film must end with the best line from Mr. Wick himself. When the Bowery King is deliberating over the best way to handle John’s request for help, John points out that if Santino lives it will surely mean war for the Bowery King. John caps off his argument with this fantastic quote. Given the sheer amount of confidence John exudes when he says this, it is hard to blame the Bowery King for actually handing him a gun.
