Netflix’s Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer, is a chilling look at not only the terrible murders, rapes, and kidnappings that Richard Ramirez committed across Los Angeles through the ’70s and ’80s, but also the lengthy journey detectives took to discover his identity and track him down.

For those who are into the best true crime, it’s the perfect new obsession. And with just four episodes, it’s also a very quick binge. While the end is very satisfying, chances are that lovers of the genre will likely be craving more. Luckily, there are plenty of other true crime docuseries that are similar to Night Stalker, in various ways. And many of them are on Netflix as well.

10 Don’t F**K With Cats: Hunting An Internet Killer (2019)

While Night Stalker might seem gruesome, this true-crime docuseries about the Canadian killer takes it to another level. For those who found Night Stalker tough to stomach, this one might be too much. But for those who were okay with the graphic details, Don’t F**K With Cats will be the perfect next binge-watch.

Luka Magnotta not only cruelly killed cats live on the Internet, but he also gruesomely killed humans. And while the series is more focused on the Internet sleuths who discovered his videos and took it upon themselves to identify this heinous killer, rightfully believing that his violent tendencies would escalate, the unsettling details of his life are also revealed.

9 Trial By Media (2020)

Trial By Media isn’t all about murders, but fans of Night Stalker will love the way this documentary miniseries looks at how the media plays into various cases. A big part of the Ramirez case was the police having to make deals with the media to prevent them from publishing facts that could be detrimental to the case if they were released to the public.

8 Unsolved Mysteries (2020)

While Unsolved Mysteries was actually on the air from 1987 through to 1999, then again from 2001-2002, and for a third time from 2008-2010 before being revived once again on Netflix, the newer version includes two volumes of six episodes each for a total of 12.

Like the original, each episode discusses an unsolved case from the past. While many of the stories involve missing persons and murders, there are others as well, like the Berkshires UFO and the spirits many residents in Japan claim to have experienced following the 2011 tsunami.

7 The Confession Killer (2019)

One of Netflix’s best-reviewed true-crime docuseries, this one includes five episodes about another serial killer, Henry Lee Lucas, who confessed to committing more than 200 murders across the U.S. from the ’60s through to the ’80s.

Except while Lucas was clearly mentally ill, as was Ramirez, and he did, in fact, murder several people, it turns out that many of the man’s confessions about other crimes were not true.

6 The Keepers (2017)

The Keepers is a fascinating and twisted story about the unsolved murder of Catherine Cesnik, a nun, in 1969. It is believed that after Sister Cesnik discovered a priest was sexually abusing students and threatened to reveal the information, she was murdered.

Now, decades later, two of her former students continue to obsess over her death. The women, adamant to solve the case, conduct investigations of their own, which are discussed in this docuseries that runs through what they have discovered so far and what presumably happened that fateful night.

5 Killer Inside: The Mind Of Aaron Hernandez (2020)

Different from the other series, while Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez is also true-crime, the focus is on a man who was already famous prior to a murder. Following his conviction for the murder of a man, the shocking moments continued, including several controversies that flew. The story ends with a life sentence and shocking revelations.

4 Making A Murderer (2015)

With two seasons under its belt, chances are Making A Murderer could continue with a third as the case evolves. And it’s a favorite among true-crime genre lovers. Except unlike in the case of Ramirez where he was clearly guilty, Steven Avery was convicted of a rape for which he was innocent. After being released and suing the county, he became caught up in yet another case, this time involving murder.

As the case and investigation progressed, both Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey were convicted. But many questions about the validity of methods, strange evidence, attorney ineptitude, and coercion plague the controversial case.

3 Conversations With A Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes (2019)

Four hour-long episodes in this docuseries reveal archival footage and audio from more than 100 hours of interviews with the notorious serial killer. There are also interviews with Bundy’s family, friends, surviving victims, and law enforcement offers who worked on the case.

Through the series, viewers learn about Bundy’s life, how he committed his crimes, who his victims were, when he was arrested, about his escape, and his death. The most fascinating part Is Stephen Michaud’s death row interviews with the killer, where Bundy reveals details of his own mind, but as though he is speaking in the third person.

2 Fear City: New York vs. The Mafia (2020)

This true-crime docu-series is about the five crime families that ruled New York City and the FBI’s Mafia Commission Trial to take them all down at once in the ’80s. In both cases, law enforcement needed to find proof, though, in Fear City, they already knew who the guilty parties were while in Night Stalker, a big part of the case was identifying the guilty party in the first place.
