Alan Rickman continues to live on, as his films are watched for the first time for some, and for others, the millionth time. Wands were raised in remembrance as Harry Potter fans said goodbye to their favorite drawling wizard. Fans of action films thanked him for his performance as one of the best action cold-blooded criminal masterminds in Die Hard (1988).

Romantics watch his disloyalty in dismay in Love Actually (2003)  He might have made his film debut in his 40s, but Rickman didn’t stop once he’d begun, leaving quite the impact. Many fans took to fan art to pay tribute to the actor.

Rickman’s role as Sheriff Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves (1991) is a memorable one. “Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings, and call off Christmas!”

This fan art shows humor with a thought bubble containing a spoon, quoting Sheriff Nottingham’s threat to Robin Hood, “I’m gonna cut your heart out with a spoon.” His logic? “It’s dull you twit, it’ll hurt more.”

The artist’s process behind this incredible watercolor fan art based on Perfume: The Story Of A Murderer (2006), was written in the accompanying caption:

“This is a watercolour of Alan Rickman, as Antoine Richis, that I began as a demonstration and completed at home. I did scraping out for the hair, with the very fine hairs in cream watercolour (white with a little yellow ochre). This was the only place I used white – the strong highlight on the right side of his face, is just the white of the original paper.”

This brilliant, bright display of saturated colors makes this fan art outstanding to the eye and a pleasure to view. This can also be said about the many magical roles Rickman performed during his years in theatre and film.

One particular film is the fantasy animation short The Boy In The Bubble (2011), where Rickman was the narrator. The nine minute story follows a young boy named Rupert who experiences heartbreak for the first time.

For many Harry Potter fans, Severus Snape takes no other face than that of Alan Rickman. From the very beginning, his interpretation of Snape was informed, making him more human and something other than a villain.

Some people choose to hate Snape, unable to forgive him and see him redeemed, while others see the effort and struggle of a wizard tormented by his past choices and motivated by a lost love. His beautifully conflicted emotions were what made Snape so memorable and so loved.

What can be said about this piece other than “wow”? The sense of wonderment it gives the viewer, the delicacy of the colors and strokes, the accuracy of Rickman’s expressive skills – although he may be known for his roles as the villain, Rickman was no stranger to romantic roles.

In the film Truly, Madly, Deeply (1990), audience members get to see Rickman as a ghost who lets down his hair as he laughs, sings, and breaks their hearts.

He is a personality prototype for genuine people personalities and many of his lines hold wit, muttering, and relinquishment. It’s easy to say that Rickman steals the show.

Hans Gruber, the antagonist of the film Die Hard (1988) was Rickman’s debut cinematic role. His character was classy, intelligent, cunning, and a criminal mastermind.

Rickman made his mark in cinema in one of the greatest action films ever made. He was believable, succinct, and informed, making his lines ring with a strong source of background.

This artist used H, B, and 4B pencils, a 2B mechanical pencil, kneaded and normal eraser, a ruler, and a tissue – such simple materials for such a beautiful piece of artwork. Alan Rickman was a man of many talents, with the ability to create, act, and direct a believable reality, irrespective of the genre.

He took the role of an angelic being in the comedy Dogma (1999). He was the object of Sweeny’s revenge in musical horror film Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007). He was cast as Physician Franz Mesmer in Mesmer (1994) and was the voice of Absolem in Alice In Wonderland (2010) and its sequel.

He’s played a ghost, a robot, a wizard, and a caterpillar. To add to the list of the weird and wonderful, Rickman also starred in the role of Sir Alexander Dane, an actor playing Dr. Lazarus, from the alien species, Mak’Tar, in sci-fi comedy Galaxy Quest (1999).

His character despised his catchphrase, “By Grabthar’s hammer, by the Sons of Warvan, you shall be avenged!” and made a point of making it known. The moment he embraced it may well be one of the best scenes of the film.

Rickman’s role in Jane Austen’s Sense And Sensibility (1995) was Colonel Brandon, and he inevitably stole viewers’ hearts. As Colonel Brandon recites to Marianne Dashwood, his voice tender and deep, there is no mistaking his love for her.

“Nor is the earth the less, or loseth ought, for whatsoever from one place doth fall, Is with the tide unto another brought: for there is nothing lost, that may be found, if sought.”
