10 Places Kang Could Show Up Next In The MCU

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has already set up its next big bad to follow in the steps of the Mad Titan Thanos: Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror. With a variant of the character first appearing in the finale of Loki, the multiversal time-traveling villain is sure to be a thorn in the Avengers’ side for years to come.

Despite the colossal nature of Kang’s character, Marvel Studios has yet to announce many projects involving the villainous variant. Other than his upcoming appearance in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the character is not confirmed to appear anywhere else in the MCU, though there are a few upcoming projects that very well may include him in some way.

The Marvels

Kang the Conqueror will prove to be one of the most powerful villains that the Avengers have ever faced, as he and his variants can easily wreak havoc across the timeline–as well as across infinite universes. This makes him a legitimate threat to reality itself, which would certainly put him in the crosshairs of Carol Danvers.

Marvel Studios have been proclaiming Captain Marvel as one of the most powerful Avengers of all time since her introduction in 2019, yet audiences have yet to see what she can really do. Putting her and her new team up against the new MCU Big Bad in The Marvels could grant Danvers the perfect opportunity to show off the extent of her new powers.

What If…? Season 2

After intriguing viewers with possible alternate scenarios of well-known MCU events, the animated anthology series What If…? has been picked up for another season, which has been rumored to appear as early as 2022. The show’s second season is sure to boggle fans’ minds just as much as the first with brand new “what if” scenarios that could change the multiverse.

There are plenty of scenarios that fans want to see if What If Season 2, but perhaps the most exciting of these would revolve around Kang and his variants. Loki made it clear that Kang has meddled in plenty of universes as he saw fit, even eliminating entire timelines. What If…? season 2 could explore some of Kang’s exploits, and just how he has changed the multiverse forever.

Secret Invasion

Premiering later this year, Secret Invasion promises to change the Marvel Cinematic Universe forever, revealing that an incursion of shapeshifting Skrulls has been occurring on Earth for years in secret, likely including several well-known faces in the MCU. In this Disney+ series, Nick Fury and Maria Hill, along with their Skrull allies, will have to save the world from a covert alien invasion.

Although Kang doesn’t seem to be involved with the Skrulls at all thus far, such a colossal event may pique his interest. Though he may not be behind the Skrull invasion, perhaps he will try to capitalize on the worldwide fear it causes, leading to an adaptation of the “Dark Reign” storyline where Kang replaces Norman Osborn.

Moon Knight

The split-personality superhero Moon Knight is making his debut this March with his self-titled Disney+ series, which promises to bring a new tone to the normally bright and fun MCU. The Oscar Isaac-led series will follow Marc Spector as he is imbued with power by the Egyptian god Khonshu, becoming a white-clad vigilante.

There are plenty of interactions fans want to see Moon Knight have in his upcoming series, but few have suggested that Kang might be among the nocturnal hero’s compatriots. While this idea may seem initially outlandish, it is likely that Kang often communes with beings of a higher power, including Spector’s patron god Khonshu. One shouldn’t rule out the possibility of Kang making a cameo in a post-credit scene as an associate of the moon god.

Thor: Love And Thunder

The MCU is again dipping into the wealth of Norse mythological characters for Thor: Love and Thunder, which is set to release this July, marking the very first time that an MCU character has received a fourth film in their solo franchise. In this film, Thor will go up against Christian Bale’s Gor the God Butcher, who will push the god of thunder to the brink of destruction.

Thor is a major league Avenger, one whose power often surmounts those of the earth-bound villains that his compatriots face. Kang, however, has already proven to be a match for his brother, and may well find a way to overpower Thor himself. Thor: Love and Thunder might be the perfect place to set up a rivalry between Kang and Thor that can continue throughout the next phase of the MCU.

Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol. 3

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 promises to take the beloved team of losers on a bigger adventure than ever before, as well as introduce the all-powerful Adam Warlock, who will be played by Will Poulter. The film has also been rumored to include the High Evolutionary as its main villain.

While there has not yet been any indication that Kang could appear in Guardians 3, it still remains a very tangible possibility. With the Guardians facing more powerful threats than ever, Kang may find his way into the film, perhaps even revealing that the High Evolutionary is merely another of his many variants scattered throughout the multiverse.

Fantastic Four

The Fantastic Four are finally coming to the MCU in 2023, capping off another of Marvel’s successful phases. The team, though not officially cast, will become major players in the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward, becoming a central part of the sprawling franchise.

Kang is highly likely to show up in some form in The Fantastic Four. Not only is the comic book character typically a villain to the superhero foursome, but he also happens to be a direct descendant of Reed Richards, Mister Fantastic himself. Fans can certainly expect a cameo in the film at the very least, though Kang acting as the main antagonist also seems likely.

Loki Season 2

Loki ended with a massive cliffhanger in its season 1 finale after revealing that the Time Variance Authority had been run by a variant of Kang all along. The final scene of the episode dropped the god of mischief in an alternate reality, where Kang ruled the TVA publicly, building a shrine of himself in the central hall.

The second season of Loki is already promising major Kang content moving forward, with the character very likely to be added to the series’ main cast for the upcoming season. The series may even take the opportunity to introduce some of Kang’s variants, which are sure to give Loki the fight of his life as he tries to restore the universe he knew.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has all the makings of an Endgame-level MCU event. Not only will it introduce the full multiverse to audiences, but the film is rumored to include plenty of cameos from past Marvel franchises, all while rewriting the MCU as we know it.

It is highly unlikely that Kang would sit out of a major event like Multiverse of Madness. The character will undoubtedly factor into the film’s plot in some way, even if he simply appears as a member of the multiversal Illuminati. One way or another, Kang will have some effect on the outcome of the multiverse’s implosion.

Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will act as the third film in the Ant-Man franchise, as well as the supposed debut of Kang the Conqueror in the MCU (if he doesn’t surprise fans with an earlier appearance). Kang will act as the film’s main antagonist, going up against Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne in a battle throughout the Quantum Realm.

Quantumania is the only film so far that Kang has been confirmed to appear in, though fans can expect to see plenty of Majors’ character moving forward. If audiences are looking to get a meaty take on the multiversal supervillain, then this will be the film that they’ve been waiting for, as he will play a pivotal role in the film’s events, which could shape the entire future of the MCU.
