10 Reasons Why The Book Of Boba Fett Is Good, Actually

With The Book of Boba Fett deep into its first season, it’s a good time to assess its good qualities. The first four episodes received mixed reviews, while the fifth came in with a 9.4 rating on IMDB. This could be, perhaps because it’s essentially an episode of The Mandalorian, as it strays so far from the show’s own plotline.

The return of Mando exciting devoted fans, and rightfully so. Still, the lukewarm reception to The Book of Boba Fett‘s first handful of episodes didn’t give the show enough credit for what it’s done well.

Side Characters

One of Star Wars‘ crowning achievements as a franchise has been character design. A character with barely any speaking lines in the original trilogy ended up with a wealth of toy sales and a Disney+ series four decades later, after all.

The Book of Boba Fett has fed us many interesting looking characters, like the Mayor’s Major Domo, Garsa Fwip, and the return of comic book character Black Krrsantan, the menacing Wookie. The addition of such unique and interesting characters builds the world of the show really well, adding some viewer intrigue.

Grogu

Though this is something unexpected for the Boba Fett series, it gives us a glimpse of what Disney+ is building long term with their Star Wars product, with different series’ having interconnected storylines. This leaves fans wondering in which series this storyline will pick up next. Maybe with the return of The Mandalorian, or with Ahsoka.

Seeing Grogu begin his Jedi training is awesome on its own, especially given the amount of time Luke Skywalker is on screen. The callbacks to Master Yoda and Luke’s training from The Empire Strikes Back are fun and nostalgic. Ahsoka, considered to be one of the best Jedi, had some great moments in Episode 6.

Nostalgic Callbacks

Speaking of nostalgia, something Star Wars projects know how to do is surprise the audience with something they’ll recognize. The Naboo Starfighter, Ahsoka, Krrsantan, Cad Bane, Mandalorian side characters, R2D2, are just a handful of the many surprises to come of the series so far, leaving fans in awe of what the series has been able to pull off in its most recent episodes.

With one episode remaining in the season, fans remain theorizing on what kind of twists the show can throw their way.

Cad Bane

The Cad Bane reveal at the end of Chapter 6 was one no one saw coming. With the build up for the finale’s battle stirring over the past few episodes, putting the infamous Clone Wars bounty hunter on one side solidifies the hype. Episode 7 will be must see television.

The episode sets up the reveal perfectly, by demonstrating the gun slinging prowess of Cobb Vanth early on, only to have him taken out with ease by the far more deadly Bane in an epic western style showdown. Cad Bane was the highest ranked of other bounty hunters who deserve their own series.

The Cantina

A setting filled with interesting figures like always is the Cantina that frequently appears in the series. The Tatooine, or more specifically, Mos Eisley environment is one filled with plot points throughout the Star Wars franchise. The Cantina was a location in particular that had very memorable aspects, the Cantina Band song in particular.

In The Book of Boba Fett they’re playing some new music, and have a whole cast of new service droids, waitresses and helmet cleaners, providing the show with an interesting recurring set.

Visually Stunning

This was expected, given what we’d seen already with The Mandalorian. But it’s undoubtable that the Disney+ Star Wars shows are going all out with displaying the Star Wars universe and its beautiful worlds and landscapes in full effect.

It’s fun to see the inspiration for each episode as the credits roll and we see some of the concept art that led to the episode’s visuals. It just goes to show that there’s true passion and artistry behind each episode.

The Mandalorian Tie-in

Fans and critics alike have joked that Episode 5 of The Book of Boba Fett was just an episode of the Mandalorian, but are audiences grateful regardless? Yes. So much was accomplished in this small episode, and with the tie-in to the main plot line at the end, suspense has been built up for the showdown that is set to incur in the final two episodes.

It was fun to see follow up on Mando’s journey with the darksaber, and heartbreaking to see him come so close to Grogu, but then have to leave without speaking to him.

Flashbacks to Kamino

The peak of Boba’s flashbacks is the quick glimpses audiences occasionally receive of his life as a child on Kamino. The callback to Attack of the Clones is a major point of nostalgia for fans who grew up watching the prequels, or for lovers of the Battlefront game series.

Watching Jango Fett’s ship take off from the rainy platforms, likely symbolizing his heading off to his inevitable downfall, adds a layer of sympathy to the otherwise stoic Boba Fett. Despite being a clone like millions others, Boba had a relationship with his father, and it’s sad to see him go.

Temuera Morrison

The sheer amount of acting jobs Temuera has done for the Star Wars franchise alone solidifies him as a distinguished screen presence. From the prequel trilogy, to video games, to him returning as Boba Fett in The Mandalorian and now his own series, the New Zealand actor deserves all the praise from Star Wars fans.

He returns as Boba Fett and does exactly what you’d hope from the veteran actor. He’s intelligent, but also stern, truly bringing the soldier-like nature of the Fetts to life. Temuera has delivered some of the best quotes in The Book of Boba Fett so far.

Built Up Suspense

As described earlier, the build up to the season’s finale has been accumulating in a suspenseful manner for the past few episodes, and fans are eagerly expecting an epic battle filled with familiar characters. Between the Mandalorian, Boba Fett, Cad Bane, Fennec Shand and Krrsantan, there are some deadly fighters entering the arena for Chapter 7.

Hopefully the season’s final chapter does not disappoint. Fans will be tuning in on February 9th to find out!
