Schitt’s Creek might be over after six successful seasons, but it’s still well-loved by many fans. The series also recently gained high critical acclaim by winning five Emmy’s in 2020. The show first premiered in 2015, so there are many things from season one that even pretty die-hard fans might have forgotten about.

In season one, the Rose family is still reeling from losing their money and being forced to relocate to Schitt’s Creek, and they are very different characters than they are at the end of the series. There are also many relationships that begin to develop in season one that lasts throughout the series as well as some characters that don’t last for long.

10 Fans see where the Rose family used to live

The very first scene of the very first episode shows the Rose family in their former mansion being kicked out as the government is seizing their assets after Johnny’s business partner stole their money. This is one of the few visual moments fans get in the entire series that shows how the Rose family used to live. It’s a good scene because it shows the contrast between the two lifestyles and also first introduced fans to Moira’s obsession with her wigs.

9 There’s a really suggestive town sign

The very name of the town, Schitt’s Creek, is obviously a play on words that doesn’t sound very pleasant at all. The motif of the town as being a rather backward and strange place is taken even further in season one when Johnny discovers the town sign which appears to be a man pressing up behind a woman in a very suggestive manner. Roland explains that the town depicts his ancestors and that the two are supposed to be siblings. This moment highlights how differently Johnny and Roland see the town.

8 Alexis thinks Mutt is having an affair with Jocelyn

When Alexis first meets Mutt during community service, she’s rather attracted to him right away. This is also interesting because Mutt is actually introduced before Ted as a potential love interest for Alexis. During the time with Mutt, Alexis believes that Mutt is having an affair with Jocelyn before discovering that Mutt is in fact Jocelyn and Roland’s adult son.

7 Moira has her iconic winery ad moment

While this scene definitely isn’t forgettable, many fans might be surprised to learn that this moment happens all the way back in season one. While Moira sees this as a great opportunity to get back into acting, things, as usual, don’t go as planned.

However, it’s a classic Moira moment that features her strange accent and poor acting skills as well as her overall lack of self-awareness. And, it’s definitely one of the best hilarious Moira moments from season one.

6 Johnny gets invited to speak at a funeral

For most of season one, the Rose family is extremely critical and judgemental of Schitt’s Creek. All they want to do is leave the town as fast as they can, and they are very unimpressed with the locals and the different culture they have compared to the Rose’s high society ways. So, when Johnny is asked to speak at the funeral of Bob’s brother Carl, who he’s never met, he’s understandably confused. Luckily, Moira saves the day with her rendition of “Danny Boy.”

5 Moira’s younger sister is introduced

Throughout the series, there are occasional episodes where people from the past show up to haunt the Rose family, and these people usually highlight that their former relationships were shallow and lacking. However, it’s not often that family members come into play. In season one, Moira’s estranged sister, Dee Dee, shows up, but this is the only episode where she ever features. Because of this, she’s fairly forgettable and not that important.

4 Moira and David join an MLM

Another episode that features someone from Moira’s past is “Allez-Vous” when Moira gets a package from a friend that turns out to be beauty and health products for a multi-level marketing company.

David and Moira seek to make money by selling these products to the residents of Schitt’s Creek because they believe they can be suckered in. However, they discover that the Allez-Vous craze already hit the town and that no one wants to buy the products anymore.

3 Stevie and David hook up

David and Stevie’s relationship is an important part of Schitt’s Creek, but their relationship is often evolving. In the first season, these two actually hook up after Stevie learns that David is pansexual, not gay as she thought. While their romantic relationship doesn’t last long or go all that well, it is an interesting component of their history. However, it seems pretty clear that these two are better off as close friends.

2 Ted and Alexis start dating

In the first season, Ted and Alexis also meet for the first time and start dating. But, during this time, Alexis is more interested in Mutt even though he is with Twyla. While she overall sees Ted as too kind and boring, she starts dating him anyway because he’s the next best option. It’s definitely interesting to see the relationship ups and downs over the seasons between Ted and Alexis.

1 David invites Stevie to move with him to New York

At the end of season one, the Rose family thinks they have found a town buyer, so both Alexis and David make plans to skip town right away. David plans to move back to New York, and he invites Stevie to come with him even though their relationship is still in a strange place. Stevie decides not to take him up on the offer which is probably for the best as things don’t really work out for David and he winds back up in Schitt’s Creek.
