Niantic, Nintendo, and The Pokémon Company’s foray into mobile gaming continues to pay off, as Pokémon Go remains one of the best ongoing titles for fans of the franchise out there. But even hardcore players might not have completed all of the secret activities and gaming options available in the game.

There are a variety of things that fans can do in the game that sometimes just go undiscovered. From ways to interact with Raids to lesser-known options in the Buddy System and elusive Pokémon to catch, there’s really no end to the possibilities of what can be achieved in Pokémon Go.

10 Catching A Ditto

Dittos are definitely some of the hardest Pokémon to find in both the traditional games and indeed in Pokémon Go. Known for their transformative abilities, players don’t know that they’re even battling with a Ditto until they have managed to successfully capture the creature.

Fans can actually catch a Ditto in the wild in Pokémon Go despite how difficult a task this can be. More common Pokémon, such as Weedle or Rattata, are some of the most regular disguises used by a Ditto in the game. Continuing to catch these familiar faces could result in a Ditto being added to the Pokédex.

9 Evolving Through Trading

This was the case in some of the console games, but some Pokémon can be evolved through trading on the mobile platform, as well. This is something that’s often overlooked by fans, who continue to grind away for candy rather than taking this easier route to evolution.

There’s a much longer list than might be expected when it comes to Pokémon that evolve in this manner. Players are usually aware of Kadabra and Machoke, but others, such as Haunter, Boldore, Gurrdurr, and even Shelmet, also follow the same pattern. This is an especially useful discovery for players in less-populated areas.

8 Remote Raids

Anyone new to the game could easily miss the addition of Remote Raid Passes. Indeed, this is a real game-changer and while it was heavily advertised at the time, it’s often overlooked that players can gain access to Remote Raid Passes on a regular basis.

These passes mean that players can interact with Raids that are in their general vicinity without traveling to the Gyms they are being held at. There’s even a useful tool for detecting local Raids, and this much-needed 2021 update means that players could even battle for Legendary Pokémon from the comfort of their own homes.

7 Utilizing Rare Candy

Rare Candy is the sort of item which will sit in a player’s bag without ever being used to full effect. Some fans often don’t even know how to use the candies, ignoring them for more targeted methods of evolving Pokémon. However, Rare Candy is absolutely one of the most unique items in the game.

It can be used on any Pokémon and, as such, is great for evolving rare monsters and even leveling up Legendary beasts. It’s, therefore, one of the most crucial items for a player to have and there are endless possibilities on how to best utilize them, from Starter to Shadow Pokémon.

6 Earning Coins Through Gyms

It’s common for players to ignore the Coin system unless they wish to part with real-world money. These Poké Coins can be spent on a variety of useful items, including an upgrade to a player’s bag and an additional Egg Incubator to use out in the wild. But Coins can also be gained in-game.

By placing a Pokémon at a Gym, players will actually gain Coins for defending the location. It’s an easy way to quickly build up cash, with fans becoming able to grab up to 50 Coins per day. It’s a little secret that is often overlooked but one that can save players genuine money.

5 Pikachu As A Starter Pokémon

This hidden feature wasn’t immediately discovered by players and took a few weeks after Niantic’s debut of Pokémon Go before anyone actually managed to achieve this fun addition to the game. Players are actually able to choose Pikachu as a Starter Pokémon in the title.

It’s easy to do, as players can simply walk away from the three options available at the start of the game and they will be eventually met with a Pikachu. The yellow creature is, of course, famous as the mascot for the brand and is Ash’s Pokémon of choice.

4 Carrying Pikachu On The Player’s Back

Speaking of Electric-type Pokémon, Pikachu also does one other thing that few other Pokémon seem to be able to do. The Buddy System has been a mainstay of the game for quite some time now, although usually, a Pokémon will walk alongside the player.

But much like Ash’s Pikachu, the version in Pokémon Go will actually sit on the player’s shoulder after being chosen as a Buddy. To achieve this, a player has to walk 10k with their Pokémon. Regardless, this is a great activity to pursue since it will also help gain Candy and hatch Eggs.

3 Heading To Populated Areas

It’s easy to find far more locations of interest in popular areas. Fans are used to finding Gyms and Poké Stops in cities and other major areas. However, that’s not the only benefit to going to some of these populated locations. There’s also a wider variety of Pokémon available, as well.

It’s well worth getting the Pokémon Go app out in interesting areas. Even airports have more Pokémon than usual, thanks to the increased footfall in the area. There might be some great new characters for the Pokédex for fans to find that they wouldn’t traditionally see in small towns.

2 Nest Hunting

Nests are another common part of the game and savvy players are quick to locate a local Nest in order to build up their current Pokémon (whether they are Shadow or regular). But Nests don’t just appear for singular Pokémon. In fact, Nest locations are usually recycled.

This means if a player finds a Nest in a local area that eventually closes, chances are that it will reappear soon with a new set of Pokémon to catch. Fans could be sitting on a goldmine of opportunity without ever taking full advantage of what’s on offer.

1 Environmental Impact

The environment can genuinely play a factor in which Pokémon appear. That doesn’t just mean that there are more Water-types when it rains or when a player is near a body of water. It also means that even the changing seasons and the shifting of day to night can play a factor.

Hunting Pokémon at night can be a completely different experience on the game than looking for them in the day. There are even some Pokémon that are better suited for areas of dense forestation, or perhaps those that prefer the sun! This is a clever element of the game that many don’t even think to play around with.
