The 2019 Charlie’s Angels continued a long legacy of beloved series before it, beginning with the 1976 TV show and 2000s movies. This fun new outing, starring Kristen Stewart and Elizabeth Banks among the main cast, was tailor-made for longtime fans of the franchise.

It was filled to the brim with Easter eggs galore. Even keen moviegoers may have missed some of the best hidden gems, though. And there were plenty of big names putting on the show behind the scenes of which fans may not have even been aware.

10 It’s Not Actually A Remake

It’d be easy to see why people could envision this as a total reboot. It has a new cast, new storyline, and an all-new world for the Angels to face. But in reality, it’s a sequel. Just like 2000’s Charlie’s Angels contained links to its 1976 predecessor, the 2019 film simply expands on the world-building.

All of the Angels that fans know and love are canon here. Bosley has become a role to explain the various Bosley actors through the years. They have even worked with those canonical Angels, as shown in the movie. And in the end, one particularly iconic Angel makes a guest appearance, all going to show it’s another great sequel.

9 All The Celeb Cameos

There were some incredible cameos in Charlie’s Angels. That’s no secret. But viewers might have missed all the stars that showed up, especially in the fantastic post-credits scenes. In a sweet nod to the original, Jaclyn Smith reprises her role as Kelly Garrett, welcoming Elena to the Townsend Agency.

Then it’s a flurry of famous faces as instructors and fellow recruits. In order of appearance: Danica Patrick, Ronda Rousey, Laverne Cox, Hailee Steinfeld, Lili Reinhart, and Olympians Aly Raisman and Chloe Kim all leave their marks. Finally, unseen but mentioned: Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a canonical Angel.

8 Every End Credit Scene

There are a lot of end credits in this film, so it’d be easy to miss them. Moviegoers have grown more accustomed to this style of filmmaking since the Marvel Cinematic Universe popularized them with Iron Man, but Charlie’s Angels featured many. The end credits here generally follow a storyline: Elena’s induction into the Townsend Agency.

She meets OG Angel Kelly Garrett; learns from the best, including Danica Patrick, Ronda Rousey, and Laverne Cox; she learns to land a plane after her fellow recruits jump out of it; and finally, she gets her Angel tattoo upon passing the tests.

7 Drew Barrymore Was A Producer

Charlie’s Angels fans know Drew Barrymore best as Dylan Sanders, originating her role in 2000. She stepped into a different role for the newest installment: executive producer. She was actually a producer on the films even in the aughts, but she stuck with the franchise for Elizabeth Banks’ version.

Banks called up Barrymore and invited her to be part of the 2019 production to ensure it would belong in the series. This touching camaraderie makes it sound like they were true Angels on and off the screen.

6 The Old Outfits

There’s not one but two callbacks in the scene where Elena is introduced to the extensive wardrobe of the Angels. The bright blue racing outfit and German costume both featured in 2000’s Charlie’s Angels.

This is yet another Easter Egg to the film’s predecessors. Fans will remember these outfits vividly, as they’re pretty iconic in the franchise. Most likely, they were the personal costumes of producer and former Angel Drew Barrymore.

5 Patrick Stewart’s Photoshopped Cameo

At John Bosley’s retirement party, his fellow Bosleys decide to take him on a stroll down memory lane. The presentation includes glimpses of his time at Oxford (with hair!) and past cases he’s worked with the previous Angels. Fans will, of course, recognize these as images from the past Charlie’s Angels features.

But diehard fans will know that Patrick Stewart never appeared in the iconic TV show or 2000s-era reboot. Even though he seems like a natural fit, the new movie has simply Photoshopped him into photos from the past installments. It’s a hilarious Easter egg for viewers who catch it.

4 Elizabeth Banks’ Many Roles

Beloved actress Elizabeth Banks leads the charge as Rebecca AKA Boz in this movie, the first Angel-turned-Bosley in the history of the Townsend Agency. And while she kicked butt and looked great doing it, she wasn’t only a star. She wrote, directed, and produced it, too.

She ideated the new Bosleys, the expanded global agency, and even the concept of the squad’s origin story. She was so proud of the movie, regularly sharing stories about her time on the movie and how much heart she put into every little detail while bringing it to life. Fans have Banks to thank not only for her performance but for growing the Angels universe.

3 Ariana Grande’s Soundtrack

Ariana Grande is known for being a former actress and current pop sensation, but many may not know she had a huge hand in creating this iteration of Charlie’s Angels. She executed produced the phenomenal soundtrack and appeared on five songs herself.

While the movie wasn’t a major box-office success, the soundtrack certainly was. To date, the music video for “Don’t Call Me Angel,” the movie’s de-facto theme song from Grande, has racked up 161 million views. So, Grande deserves props for her musical contributions. It basically makes her an honorary Angel.

2 Sabina Was A Career Criminal

Sabina alludes to her dicey history when talking about how she got recruited. It turns out, she had a history of being in institutional facilities and said she would probably be dead or back in prison if Charlie hadn’t saved her. That was all she said, but there’s a subtle scene that shows off just how much of a criminal past she had.

In a blink-or-you-miss it moment, Elena scans Sabina, which pulls up her records. It turns out, Sabina had been getting arrested on and off from 2001 – 2011. Her crimes included breaking and entering  (2001), assault and battery (2002), criminal identity theft (2008), and grand theft auto (2011). She was then recruited by the Angels in 2012.

1 Charlie Is A Woman

The films have always been connected to the TV show. Charlie was voiced by John Forsythe in both the TV series and early movies. However, in the 2019 film, Charlie is voiced by Robert Clotworthy. Although, that’s not who actually plays Charlie.  In this version, Charlie is gone and the role is now fulfilled by a mysterious woman.

Viewers never get to see her face, but it becomes clear in the movie’s final moment that Charlie is now a woman. It’s anyone’s guess as to who she is, but there are some rumors floating around that it could be one of the famous Angels. It only makes sense, given that in this franchise, women run the world.
