It’s always great to find a show that draws the viewers in and has them captivated about what will happen with each new episode. But while some shows like Breaking Bad and The Sopranos were able to keep viewers hooked right until the end, not every series holds their audience as effectively.

The users at Reddit have shared some of the series that they admit to abandoning before reaching the finale. Though the viewers loved these shows at first, a loss of interest in the story or a noticeable drop in quality led to them being unable to stick it out and see it through to the end.

10 Suits (2011-2019)

Fans of legal dramas quickly found a new obsession with the series Suits. It followed a college dropout who found himself working for a top New York City law firm under the guidance of the city’s best closer, Harvey Specter.

The legal procedural drew audiences in with the fun characters and the interesting cases the heroes would take each week. But Redditor Holden_Caulfield2 felt the show eventually “turned into a melodrama swinging around relationships rather than the law stuff” and they lost interest.

9 Supernatural (2005-2020)

Though not as mainstream of a show as some other notable series, Supernatural had a strong following that propelled it to an impressive 15-season run. The show followed two brothers who follow their father’s footsteps in becoming hunters of various supernatural monsters.

But while the show delivers shocking storylines and the Winchester brothers made for fun heroes, not all fans could stay with it for the long run. ObliviousToSarcasm admitted they stopped watching in season 10 as they simply “didn’t really like the characters much anymore.”

8 True Blood (2008-2014)

The series True Blood was another show steeped in supernatural storytelling. However, as it was also an HBO series, it was able to use the genre elements to also tell stories that pushed the boundaries of television. It followed a waitress who is brought into a mysterious and dark world when she meets Bill Compton, a gentleman vampire.

From the gore to the sexuality to the intrigue, True Blood was one of the most talked-about shows for a while. But one Redditor eventually felt the show ran too wild with the supernatural aspects. They claimed once they started “throwing in werewolves, and shapeshifters, and magic” they moved on.

7 The Last Man On Earth (2015-2018)

Following his hilarious time on Saturday Night Live, Will Forte starred in the post-apocalyptic comedy The Last Man on Earth. After a virus wipes out seemingly the entire population, Forte played the last man alive dealing with his misadventures in this new world.

The show was never a big ratings hit but a favorite among many fans thanks to Forte’s performance and the interesting premise. However, the show predictably didn’t stick with its one-person cast for long and one Redditor claimed “the more characters they added the less interested I became.”

6 Weeds (2005-2012)

Before Breaking Bad became one of the most acclaimed series of all time, Weeds told a similar tale of a suburban parent who decides to make money with drugs. Mary-Louise Parker stars as Nancy who, following the death of her husband, becomes a weed dealer.

The show took a much more comedic approach to the story than Breaking Bad which worked surprisingly well for the intriguing premise. But with eight seasons of storytelling to keep the show alive, RarelyReadReplies found “it just became too ridiculous” at a certain point.

5 Once Upon A Time (2011-2018)

The fantasy series Once Upon a Time set up the interesting premise of having the real world suddenly collide with the world of fairy tales. It was a grand adventure that included new versions of characters like Snow White and Captain Hook.

The show also took advantage of being a Disney-owned series and began including various characters from Disney movies. That proved to be a step too far for fans like dalek_999 who decided to quit the show “once they introduced the girls from Frozen.”

4 Arrow (2012-2020)

Before the DCEU got off the ground, Arrow began building its own shared universe of DC heroes on television. The superhero show followed Oliver Queen, a spoiled billionaire who returns after years of being missing and presumed dead. From there, he becomes a new archer hero.

The show pleased fans by bringing in a number of memorable DC characters as well as crossing over with shows like The Flash. But emptycup3 felt that once “they started turning everyone into superheroes” the show lost its appeal.

3 Glee (2009-2015)

When Glee premiered in 2009, it instantly became one of the biggest hits on television. The high school comedy-drama followed a group of misfit students who come together and find a common interest in the school’s glee club.

It’s not hard to see why audiences flocked to the show at first as it combined elaborate pop music numbers with compelling teen drama. But Vorpal_Kitten found that the show went off the rails and once they stopped watching it, they realized they were “not sure if it was genuinely good at first.”

2 The Simpsons (1989-)

Though many of these shows have since ended their run, The Simpsons is still going with no signs of stopping any time soon. The ground-breaking animated series about the titular family and the various colorful characters in Springfield has grown into one of the biggest pop culture brands of all time.

While the earlier seasons of the show are still fondly remembered, many fans acknowledge the show has not been that good in decades. One Redditor stopped watching the show regularly around the time of The Simpsons Movie but “held out hope the show’s direction would change” only to abandon it for good shortly after.

1 The Walking Dead (2010-2022)

There have been few shows that have become as huge as The Walking Dead. The horror series followed a group of survivors in the midst of a world overrun with zombies, dealing with the constant danger from the undead and fellow survivors.

The show is currently in its final season and heading towards a finale after eleven seasons. However, some fans have decided not to see it through. TheGent316 complained that the show lacked tension with its tendency to “only kill supporting characters or characters the viewers voice their dislike for.”
