Everyone loves a good, sappy Christmas movie. That is probably why so many rom-coms seem to have the backdrop of their setting be around the holidays. There is something about the magic in the air that makes it the perfect sappy setting for romance.

Some of the Christmas themed rom-coms are considered to be classic must-sees that everyone still totally adores, no matter what time of year it is. As Christmas gets closer and closer, it seems like the perfect time to rewatch some of our favorite sappy classics.

10 The Knight Before Christmas

The Knight Before Christmas is a newer Christmas romance that stars Vanessa Hudgens and Josh Whitehouse as Brooke and Sir Cole. Cole is an actual knight (in shining armor and all) from the medieval era but is somehow magically transported to the modern era around Christmas time.

Cole meets Brooke, a disillusioned school teacher who never thinks she’ll find “the one.” Little does she know that her “Knight in shining armor” was an actual Knight from another time.

9 You’ve Got Mail

You’ve Got Mail is a classic. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan co-star yet again in another romance film set in the late 90s when these two rivals-to-loves end up living a double life with one another without even realizing it. Joe Fox (Tom Hanks) runs a major corporate book store that just opened a new location across the street from Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan)’s cute antique book shop.

The two absolutely despise each other. Meanwhile, the two meet online under private usernames with no longer who the one they’re speaking to actually is. The two begin to fall in love through their email only to find out that their online lover is also their real-life enemy.

8 Holidate

This Netflix original just recently came out and is already becoming a Christmas favorite. After being asked time and time again when they will bring a date to family gatherings, Sloane and Jackson end up striking a deal. It is the typical rom-com story of two characters swearing not to fall in love with each other, only to do it anyway.

Sloane and Jackson agreed that they would be each others’ platonic plus-ones to each family event throughout the year. But eventually, the two start gaining actual feelings for one another that just complicates things completely.

7 While You Were Sleeping

While You Were Sleeping definitely takes its viewers on a trip. Sandra Bullock finds her long-term crush, Peter, passed out on the tracks where an oncoming train is inbound. She manages to pull him to safety in the nick of time and rushes to the hospital with him.

Based on a comment she makes, Peter’s family ends up believing that Sandra Bullock is Peter’s fiancée, which complicates things when his brother, Jack, ends up developing feelings for her.

6 Let It Snow

Let It Snow is another Netflix adaptation from a novel by John Green, Lauren Myracle, and Maureen Johnson that encompasses three short stories of different teens falling in love. The movie kind of follows the same beat with a few variations.

At the end of the story, all of the groups collide to make for an amazing finale to this teen/young adult romance story that is perfect for the holidays. The cast is also filled with familiar faces.

5 Last Christmas

This Christmas romance stars Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding and is actually based on the classic Christmas song, “Last Christmas.” Only, the movie takes a very literal approach to the song’s lyrics.

An aspiring singer, Kate, works as an elf at an all-year Christmas store in London when she meets the handsome and charming Tom. The two get along great as they feel their feelings slowly developing for one another during the newest Christmas season.

4 Serendipity

Christmas in New York City has got to be one of the most magical and romantic places there is. And on one fateful, magical night, Jonathan and Sara are able to experience what may be the best nights of their lives. The two randomly meet one another as they are shopping for gloves at a department store during the holidays.

While Jonathan believes in love at first sight and thinks he has found that with Sara, she believes in destiny. So, the two make a deal with one another. If they meet again, then they are meant to be. But the two take 10 years to leave it to chance.

3 When Harry Met Sally

When Harry Met Sally is a classic. It focuses on two college students joining together to take a cross-country road trip to visit their families for the holiday.

While the road trip is easily only the first 20 minutes of the movie, it is also what establishes their relationship. They are best friends. These two friends age together and are there for each other through all their bad breakups, their moves, their ups, and their downs. But once they sleep together after a drunken night, everything changes.

2 Bridget Jones’s Diary

Comedic and snippy spinster, Bridget Jones is unlucky in love. She’s got a thing for her handsome and flirty boss who simply cannot fathom the idea of settling down, while also totally despising a man she met at a family gathering.

But suddenly, the two men know each other and end up both falling for her. This rom-com is absolutely hilarious and relevant to all who watch it, as she keeps getting herself into the messiest of situations.

1 Love Actually

Love Actually pretty much became an instant classic. This movie follows a number of different characters and their life and love throughout the holiday season. Each character’s story is different in this truly heartwarming tale about love and Christmas.
