Amy Slaton-Halterman of TLC’s 1000-Lb Sisters fame recently shared an adorable post on Instagram to commemorate her son Gage’s first birthday. Over the past year, fans have watched as Amy and her husband Mike Halterman embraced parenthood, something they always wanted but didn’t expect to happen so quickly. While Amy has received her fair share of critiques on everything from the cleanliness of her home to the incorrect fastening of Gage into his car seat, her followers are largely excited to see what the future holds for the Halterman family.

For two seasons of 1000-Lb Sisters, viewers followed Amy and her older sister Tammy Slaton as they embarked on a weight loss journey. With Amy weighing approximately 400 pounds and Tammy over 600, they felt it was time to take action. Tammy continues to struggle to qualify for gastric bypass surgery, but Amy accomplished this goal in season 1 and dropped 100 pounds. Though she was advised to wait two years to have a baby, Amy became pregnant mere months after her surgery. It was a high-risk pregnancy that was chock-full of cheat days due to pregnancy cravings, which threatened to undo all the work she put in. Regardless, Gage (named after the Stephen King character in Pet Sematary) came into this world healthy and happy on November 10, 2020, making Amy’s lifelong dream of motherhood come true.

In celebration of her baby boy’s first birthday, Amy posted a sweet selfie (seen below) of her and Gage. She captioned it, “Screaming happy 1st birthday. To my wonderful son. We love u more then you realize.” Amy described Gage as kind, sweet, and a little bit of a rebel. She added she’s “proud to say im your mum” and that Gage is her and Mike’s “heart and soul.” Amy’s 277K followers flooded the comment section with well-wishes for Gage on his special day. One fan recognized the importance of this day for Amy, saying, “Amy, I’m so happy for you, that your dream of you becoming a mom came true! Happy 1 year anniversary of motherhood.”

The premiere of 1000-Lb Sisters season 3 is right around the corner on November 15, and the Slatons’ diehard fanbase can’t wait to see where they’re both at in their respective weight loss journeys. Though Amy made significant progress, it’s possible that raising a newborn caused her to not be as strict with her diet. On previous Instagram posts, including one that shows Amy and Gage sporting matching Jack Skellington outfits, many noted it appeared she gained some weight. On the other hand, Amy’s supporters pointed out that most women gain some weight during pregnancy.

As for Tammy, she has had quite a few setbacks, from contracting COVID-19 and going on oxygen, to her inability to escape a defeated mindset. A number of viewers fear that, unless Tammy takes drastic action, she won’t be alive to see a 1000-Lb Sisters season 4. Hopefully, Tammy is able to realize that her family wants the best for her. Like most sisters, she and Amy fight and bicker from time to time, especially when Amy makes suggestions for Tammy to better her health. At the end of the day, Amy wants her partner in crime by her side for the long run, and for Gage to enjoy many years to come with his Aunt Tammy.
