HBO Max’s 12 Dates Of Christmas was filmed in the same mansion used in the 1965 musical The Sound Of Music as the Von Trapp family’s residence. Netflix’s Love Is Blind producer Sam Dean has launched a new dating show on HBO Max: the holiday-themed, romantic comedy-inspired 12 Dates Of Christmas series. The show featured gay man Garrett Marcantel, straight woman Faith Fernandez, and straight man Chad Savage as the three leads. Each of the leads got to meet six “love interests,” having the option to take one of them home for the holidays at the end of the show.

The fans were immediately dazzled by the beautiful location where 12 Dates Of Christmas was filmed – a castle-looking mansion in Austria. The three leads were amazed by how big and beautiful the location looked and felt, and each of the new contestants was in similar awe. On the show, narrator Natasha Rothwell (Insecure) made a quick reference that this mansion had been used in The Sound Of Music, and this tidbit of information was repeated by some of the contestants. However, the fans were still left wanting to learn more about the place.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The mansion that was featured on 12 Dates Of Christmas is located in Salzburg, Austria. Among other things, Salzburg is known as the birthplace of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This is also the city where the real-life Von Trapp family lived before they fled to the United States as a result of Nazi Germany seizing Austria. But this particular mansion featured on 12 Dates became very famous as the Von Trapp family’s residence in the film The Sound Of Music. For cinephiles, this place will always be thought of as the “Von Trapp mansion,” but the location is actually known as the Schloss Leopoldskron Palace. At the moment, this mansion operates as the Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron. Per TripAdvisor, the hotel has “55 rooms, 12 suites, and two townhouses.” Listed property amenities include free WiFi and a fitness center.

It probably made things much easier for the 12 Dates Of Christmas producers to film at a location with historical significance that just happened to be turned into a hotel over the years. Despite filming at an old property, they were able to have several rooms for the entire cast and crew, and internet access, and even other modern amenities that most hotels offer nowadays.

One thing is certain: the 12 Dates Of Christmas mansion was beautiful, and fans who watched the show probably want to book a trip to Salzburg, Austria once the COVID-19 lockdowns are in the past.
