This quirky and hilarious sitcom came to an end in 2018 after seven stellar seasons. For those are re-watching this hit show and missing Jessica Day and the crew from the loft, there are plenty of other equally entertaining shows to binge in our mourning of the departure of New Girl.

For everyone that needs another funny group of characters and a sitcom that is unique and obscure, we’ve made a list to better direct your binging efforts. If you loved New Girl, fans should certainly get watching these shows.

Updated on October 11th, 2020, by Richard Keller: New Girl was a different iteration of the female-driven sitcom that was as much scripted as it was improvised. The fresh take provided a look at people in their 20s and 30s who still weren’t sure of where they needed to go. Now that New Girl is over, here are other shows with the same vibe.

15 Two Broke Girls (2011-2017)

This traditional three-camera sitcom was untraditional, especially for CBS. Heavily laden with drug and sex innuendo, it was more than a story about two 20-somethings trying to make it in up-and-coming Brooklyn.

A mix of Odd Couple and Alice, the show stars Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs as opposites who end up as roommates. Where the show’s main focus was initially the duo, Two Broke Girls eventually expanded to cover stories of the other quirky characters.

14 Shrill (2019 – )

Aidy Bryant has been a go-to player on Saturday Night Live for years. She took her bubbly brightness from that program and put it to good use in Hulu’s Shrill.

In the sitcom, Aidy’s character, Annie, is ready for a big change. However, she wants to do it without changing her body. Throughout the series, she deals with horrible boyfriends and bosses while dealing with ill parents.

13 Young Hungry (2014-2018)

Miley Cyrus isn’t the only one from Hannah Montana who quickly decided to shed her teen persona after the Disney show ended. Her best friend on the show, played by Emily Osment, went the same route on Freeform’s Young & Hungry.

The traditional sitcom stars Osment as Gabi, a Florida transplant who lies in San Francisco and is the personal chef to tech guru Josh Kaminski. Gabi’s life gets complicated when she has a one-night stand with Josh. Their on-and-off relationship becomes the underlying plot point throughout the life of the program.

12 Love Life (2020 – )

Love Life was part of HBO Max’s launch in May of 2020. Instead of a standard sitcom, the show is anthology-based. Its stories revolve around its main character, Darby Carter, who is portrayed by Anna Kendrick.

Each episode of the romantic-comedy focuses on an element of Darby’s life and relationships. Everyone in the series, including the recurring characters and guests, go through the motions to determine the perfect date and future relationships.

11 Friends (1994-2004)

Way back in 1994, NBC premiered a simple sitcom about six 20-somethings who navigated their lives in New York City. Some viewers might remember the program. It’s called Friends.

A good portion of the shows listed are influenced in some way by this now-legendary sitcom, which aired for 10 seasons. Despite its traditional sitcom framework, all of the characters showed growth between the first and last episodes. Despite premiering over a quarter-century ago, Friends continues to influence other programs.

10 Jane The Virgin (2014-2019)

This comedy series lasted for five seasons, and even has a pretty impressive score of 7.8/10 on IMDb. For those that loved a quirky female lead, this show is certainly for you. Starring Gina Rodriguez, this show follows a young Catholic woman, who discovers she was accidentally artificially inseminated.

This show is hilarious, wholesome, and pure. With the same silly and lovable female lead, this show is bound to satisfy all fans of Jessica Day, and has tons of episodes to watch and re-watch.

9 Chewing Gum (2015-2017)

This underrated comedy series ran for two seasons, so fans can binge it super quick and get all of its wonderful entertainment. Following Tracy, this series also tackles friends, family, and love, all in the confinements of her neighborhood.

With unique and lovable characters, this show is bound to have you binging it from start to finish. Plus, it’s British, which will give fans a new twist to their beloved sitcoms, while still being entirely entertaining and fresh.

8 Community (2009-2015)

This highly-rated comedy-drama stars Ellie Kemper, who plays the young and adventurous Kimmy Schmidt. After being rescued from a doomsday cult, she moves to NYC to start her life all over again. Finding normal life is tricky, but it’s also hilarious and wholesome.

This is the ultimate “finding yourself” sitcom, and stars an incredible cast with funny and relatable content. This show will have everyone laughing, and Kimmy Schmidt will certainly fill all withdrawals of Jessica Day.

6 Undateable (2014-2016)

This show is another that deserves far more recognition than it received. A womanizer, his sister, his bartender roommate, and three of their other friends are all struggling with the dating scene in adulthood.

With three seasons to binge, this show has all the awkward and relatable dating scenes that we all loved about New Girl. This quirky and hilarious show is one that’s been hiding from many of us, but certainly deserves a watch.

5 Don’t Trust The B—- In Apartment 23 (2012-2013)

This comedy stars the beautiful and talented Krysten Ritter, who plays Chloe, a New York City party girl. With little morals and an obsession with making trouble, she has to juggle her new, naive, small-town roommate and her male best friend.

This show is pretty unique when it comes to sitcoms, and has an amazing group of characters. It has two strong female leads, and still all the humor of friendship and young adulthood. This show has two seasons to watch and is hilariously entertaining.

4 Happy Endings (2011-2013)

This romance comedy series takes place in Chicago and follows six young people as they try to tackle adulthood. Honestly, this already sounds a lot like our gang on New Girl, and this show also has Damon Wayans Jr., the handsome man that brought Coach to our small screens.

This show is quirky, relatable, and is another hilarious tale of young people trying to survive adulthood, relationships, friendships, and life itself. We loved watching the gang from the loft figure out life, and this show fulfills that same feeling.

3 The Mindy Project (2012-2017)

This show is also for those who adored a quirky and relatable female lead. Created by and starring the brilliant Mindy Kaling, she plays a young Ob/Gyn doctor, who must balance her personal and professional life.

2 Broad City (2014-2019)

This comedy is underrated and has a whopping 8.4/1o on IMDb. Following the daily lives of two women in New York City, this show is all about regular mundane life, but also how these two seem to make everything ridiculous and hilarious.

Yes, this is sounding oddly familiar to the mishaps created by those in the loft, and fans of our New Girl gang will love to watch the hectic lives of these two ladies. Of course, some more quirky and adventurous women power is always appreciated.

1 Friends From College (2017-)

This is the only show on the list where fans can wait patiently for new seasons to come out. This new comedy-drama follows a group of adult friends who have all gone their separate ways since college. However, twenty years later, their lives intertwine, and things get messy, outrageous, and hilarious.

This series stars Keegan-Michael Key, Cobie Smulders, and many more, and will certainly have all viewers laughing and cringing. For those who love the ridiculous and quirky nature of New Girl, this show is certainly for you, and has two seasons, so far, to watch immediately.
