A compilation of trailers for some of the biggest movies of 2021 celebrates a welcome return to cinema. While 2020 saw many major movie releases delayed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, 2021 proved far more successful, with a buffet of blockbusters drawing fans back to the big screen. Despite a slow start to the year, with moviegoers understandably nervous to return to theaters, Spider-Man: No Way Home has helped close the year out with a bang, accelerating itself to become the highest-grossing movie of the year after crossing the $1 billion mark globally.

2021 has proved significantly better for the film industry when compared to the previous 12 months, with 2020 seeing theaters shut globally for much of the year and many release dates pushed into this year and beyond. In a controversial move, the uncertainty over the last year has led many films to forgo cinemas and go straight to streaming services in a move that has angered those in the industry and fans alike. But, while 2021 hasn’t been without its hitches, cinemas finally saw moviegoers flooding back through their doors, with the likes of Ghostbusters: AfterlifeVenom: Let There Be Carnage and In the Heights helping to breathe life back into theaters.

The video, which clocks in at just under six minutes, shows off some of the best movie moments of the year, showing snippets from the likes of DuneF9 and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Not to forget some of the underrated hits that made their mark in 2021, the video also includes Psycho GormanLast Night in Soho and The Green Knight. Check out the video below:

The video helps highlight how important 2021 has been for the movie industry. While 2020 wasn’t without its blockbusters, like Birds of Prey and Bad Boys for Life, the sheer lack of releases left a hole in theater schedules that cinemas struggled to fill, even when they could safely open. In stark contrast, 2021 has offered an incredible amount of new releases, with The Matrix Resurrections and Ghostbusters: Afterlife offering a sense of familiarity in a time when so much feels uncertain. While some movies may have missed the mark critically, with an overabundance of films relying on nostalgia, fans have finally had a reason to be excited to go to cinemas again.

With Covid cases again on the rise and much of the world undergoing tighter restrictions, many movies are already preemptively pushing their release dates to combat possible theater closures. Just this week, the upcoming John Wick 4 was pushed back to March 2023, in one of the highest-profile delays in recent months. While delays are unfortunately inevitable, moviegoers have shown that the desire to watch movies in theaters is still alive, and the future of film still, well and truly lies on the big screen.
