The epic and ground-breaking Infinity Saga storyline of the MCU came to a massive end with Avengers: Endgame. The film picked up with the aftermath of Thanos’ devastating victory which wiped out half the universe. The remaining heroes attempt to pick up the pieces and make things right.

The movie satisfyingly juggled so many huge aspects of the story, including its difficult tone. While the film packed in as many laughs as you might expect from an MCU movie, it also delivered a powerful and emotional final chapter which served as a farewell for some of the MCU’s most beloved heroes.

10 Funniest: Honestly, At This Exact Second, I Thought You Were A Build-A-Bear

After floating in space and close to death, Tony is rescued by Captain Marvel and brought back to Earth. But there was a lot he needs to get caught up on, including some new and very strange members of the Avengers.

As the remaining heroes convene in the aftermath of defeat, Tony takes a moment to be astonished at the talking raccoon in the room. He says to Rocket that he mistook him for a Build-a-Bear and Rocket responds, “Maybe I am.”

9 Powerful: I Lost The Kid

The relationship between Tony Stark and Peter Parker has been one of the best in the MCU. Following the heartbreaking death of Peter at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, Tony is obviously still wrecked by the guilt.

As soon as he sees Cap, he tells him “I lost the kid.” It’s one of the things that makes Endgame such an emotional and unique superhero film. These iconic characters who are often seen saving the world failed and have to deal with the consequences.

8 Funniest: So, Back To The Future’s A Bunch Of Bullshit?

In a desperate attempt to reverse Thanos’ snap and bring everyone back, the remaining heroes develop a time-travel plan to retrieve the Infinity Stones from the past. Along with being a dangerous mission, it also seems to be too complicated for some of the heroes to explain.

While War Machine and Ant-Man discuss how they can use time travel to save the day, they begin spouting countless shows and movies about time travel that back up their theory. Banner explains to them that none of that is correct. Shocked, Ant-Man says, “So Back to the Future is a bunch of bullshit.”

7 Powerful: Some People Move On. But Not Us

One of the most interesting aspects of the film is seeing how the heroes deal with the loss in their own ways. Some do better than others, while some just pretend to be doing better. Steve Rogers continues to try and help others with group therapy sessions.

However, when alone with Natasha, Steve is more honest about his outlook. While he tells others to move on, he knows he can’t. This speaks to their drive to save the day no matter what as well as Steve’s own eventual happy ending.

6 Funniest: So He’s An Idiot?

With this film acting as the culmination of everything that came before, it finds a clever way to revisit the past movies through the heroes’ time heist. The Avengers split into teams and seek out the Infinity Stones, with War Machine and Nebula going to Morag to retrieve the Power Stone.

This provides a hilarious new look at Peter Quill’s famous dancing scene from the first Guardians of the Galaxy. War Machine looks on as Quill dances and sings to himself looking much less cool from his perspective. War Machine turns to Nebula and says “So he’s an idiot” and Nebula admits “Yeah.”

5 Powerful: You Can Rest Now

Tony Stark started out as a self-centered businessman who gradually became a hero and eventually was the one to give his life to save the day. Tony uses the stones to take out Thanos and his army, but the power is too much for him.

As he lays dying, Pepper comes to comfort him and tells him they are going to be alright and that he can rest now. It brings an end to Tony’s obsession with keeping the world safe. He finally succeeded and is now able to rest in peace.

4 Funniest: One Side, There, Lebowski

One of the funniest and most clever decisions made in this film was Thor’s transformation. After losing so much in the past few movies, Thor is in a bad place. When he is reintroduced in this movie, he is drinking heavily and a complete mess.

While it’s interesting to see a superhero suffering from PTSD, this new take on Thor continues to allow Chris Hemsworth to embrace his comedic side. It also earns him a new nickname from Tony as his resemblance to The Dude from The Big Lebowski is hard to ignore.

3 Powerful: I Love You 3000

Tony seems to be the hero who has dealt with their loss the best. While haunted by his perceived failure, he and Pepper continue to build their life and even have a daughter named Morgan. This makes his death all the more tragic.

During his funeral, they play a recorded message from Tony to Morgan in which he closes with her sweet message to him, “I love you 3000.” It’s a heartbreaking promise that he will still be there in spirit and a lovely goodbye from the character who started the MCU.

2 Funniest: That Is America’s Ass

One of the most fun sequences in the film is seeing the heroes return to the Battle of New York from The Avengers. As they watch the past versions of themselves arrest Loki, Stark comments on Cap’s unflattering old costume that “does nothing for your ass.” Ant-Man strongly disagrees and insists “That’s America’s ass.”

Cap later comes face to face with his past self and the two heroes fight. After future Cap manages to knock out his young self, he takes a moment to assess the old costume. Finally, he agrees “That is America’s ass.”

1 Powerful: Avengers…Assemble

While the MCU still has plenty more movies to come in the future, it’s hard to imagine they will ever top this moment in Endgame. Just as all hope seems lost, portals begin opening and all the vanished heroes like Black Panther, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange return.

More and more heroes and armies poor through the portals. Then Cap gives the call that comic book fans have been waiting for as he says “Avengers…assemble.” Seeing all those heroes charging into battle together was a mind-blowing moment.
