Although Mighty Morphin is the most well-known iteration of Power Rangers, it’s not the best. Other seasons are much powerful, and two of the best are Power Rangers In Space and Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy. But which one of them is better? It’s a hard call because they are both so excellent, each with their own unique strengths.

Here are a few reasons why PRIS takes the top spot and a few why it’s actually Lost Galaxy.

10 PRIS: Strong Emotional Arcs

Power Rangers In Space took a lot of risks with emotional storylines that other versions of the Power Rangers franchise simply didn’t touch. From the Turbo Rangers’ loss of powers to the complete destruction of Andros’s home planet to Andros’s quest to revive his best friend, who took a killing blow for him, to his search for his long-lost sister, his eventual discovery of her, and then his loss of her a second time, PRIS went above and beyond.

The storylines they delivered were incredibly solid and well-built, making this season a true contender.

9 PRLG: Not Afraid To Showcase Darker Stories

Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy features one of the few true deaths in Power Rangers history. Although Kendrix does eventually return, she doesn’t do so until the very last episode, and her death is a powerful, and incredibly poignant, part of the season.

Additionally, one of the heroes, the Red Ranger’s brother Mike, appears to die early in this iteration, another strong emotional beat. He does return, but later in the series, nearly dies, and does lose his powers completely. PRLG doesn’t shy away from darker notes, enriching the franchise.

8 PRIS: Inverted Pink Ranger Stereotypes

An unusual, but welcome, part of PRIS is that the Pink Ranger is not ‘the girly girl.’ Power Rangers has unfortunately been plagued with issues of stereotyping throughout its run, especially when it comes to gender and race. In PRIS, Pink Ranger Cassie is much less stereotypically feminine than Ashley, the Yellow Ranger, who is constantly concerned with fashion, hair, and nails.

It is nice to see a little bit of a break with the stereotype that choosing to wear pink means one has to be super “girly.” Additionally, PRIS does not end up associating any colors with problematic race association either, a win for the season.

7 PRLG: First Original Cast In A While

PRLG is unique for Power Rangers because it featured the first all-new cast in years, with almost no overlap from previous years. (Until Karone joins mid-way through the run.) It’s always a challenge to start up with brand new characters, and hard to make the audience embrace them when they have been so fond of the previous rangers.

But new Rangers means new stories to explore, and PRLG did an incredible job setting up this new team.

6 PRIS: Had a Crossover with the Ninja Turtles

Fans love crossovers and PRIS had maybe the most iconic crossover ever when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made guest appearances on the show. Power Rangers meeting Turtles is the perfect combo of two incredible ’90s franchises and made for a delightful surprise at the time and a delightful look back now.

It doesn’t get more epic than this.

5 PRLG: Brought Back A Fan-Favorite

Midway through the season, Kendrix is replaced by Karone as the Pink Ranger. Karon, aka Astronema, was an incredible part of PRIS, which came just before PRLG. But while she made an incredible villainess on PRIS, fans only got to see her be Karone for a few brief shining seconds.

It was a genius move for PRLG to bring her back and give her a newer, fuller life

4 PRIS: Concluded an Era

In a move worthy of an epic fantasy or sci-fi movie, Andros must sacrifice Zordon, the years-long, benevolent mentor of the Rangers, to save the universe at the end of PRIS. As Zordon’s life-force touches everyone and destroys all evil, the end of a Power Rangers era comes to pass. For many, many seasons, Zordon had been key to the existence of Rangers and served as their moral guide and leader figure.

The death of Zordon marked a completely new era of Power Rangers, making his final episode super important.

3 PRLG: Had An Incredibly Long Endgame

Although it went on an incredibly long journey to get there, the end of PRLG and its beginning matched up perfectly. Viewers were not to know how important the first episodes of the season were, and how everything would come full circle in the end.

There is something to be said for the ending of a franchise making everything more powerful, but the finale of PRLG really gives a lot of meaning to what came before it.

2 PRIS: Widened the Scope of The Universe

PRIS was a major universe building season for Power Rangers. For the first time, the show didn’t take place grounded on earth, although earth was a major part. Taking the series into the stars was a genius move for the show and helped it continue to evolve from simply an action show into a sci-fi spectacular.

In this way, PRIS opened the door for much of what was to come.

1 PRLG: Great Character Growth

Power Rangers is not well-known for its depth of character, but the Rangers in PRLG really did have arcs and evolutions throughout their time on the show.

Leo, the Red Ranger, started as a reckless rebel, Kai, the blue ranger, as an up-tight yes-man, Maya, the Yellow Ranger, as an outcast, and the list goes on. But by the end of the show, they all found their places as heroes.
