The new trailer for the upcoming  Rescue Rangers movie has a whole generation of Disney fans ecstatic for the return of many of their favorite animated friends. Along with the titular Rescue Rangers, viewers can expect a number of different cartoon icons returning after what feels like forever, and it looks like Disney is going full Roger Rabbit with the variety of characters in the trailer alone.

As more observant viewers will note, Disney’s cartoon crew aren’t the only animated stars joining the fun. From only a few scenes alone, there are more than a few cameos from various other shows and movies mingling with the trailer’s cast.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Paula Abdul And MC Skat Kat

While they’re more of a product of the ’80s, the inclusion of Paula Abdul and her animated feline friend, MC Skat Kat, was a great way to solidify the eras the movie will be diving into. Since Who Framed Roger Rabbit came out along the same time as the music video for “Opposites Attract,” it makes sense that toons and humans would have already been interacting with each other for a while.

The music video itself is already a fun piece of ’80s cartoon cheese, and a slice of the entertainment culture of the era. It could also be interpreted as the brand of absurdity the filmmakers are going for. Not that a collaboration between Disney and The Lonely Island needs much help.

The Three Little Pigs

The appearance from this trio of musical swine shows that Disney isn’t afraid of going truly old school with their animated characters. While they originally premiered back in the days of the Silly Symphonies, the pigs have been present for a number of different Disney projects from Who Framed Roger Rabbit to Paul Rudish’s Mickey Mouse series.

The presence of the pigs could indicate how far back into their catalog Disney is willing to stretch. By that logic, fans could expect appearances from other vintage toons as well. Disney historians could very well be in for some unexpected treats.

Roger Rabbit

On one hand, this could be just an excuse to use the “doing the Roger Rabbit with Roger Rabbit” joke, but it could also provide insight as to how this movie’s world functions. Roger Rabbit’s iconic film debut was one of the first full-length features in which humans and toons inhabited the same universe. It wouldn’t be wrong in assuming this movie uses that same world.

While there doesn’t appear to be a separate Toontown territory, the cartoon characters do appear to have the same physical powers and dimensions they did back in the original film. With the expanse of the medium, perhaps the toons have finally found a way to properly exist amongst their human fans.

Scrooge McDuck

There is perhaps no more natural scene than the image of Scrooge McDuck diving into a vault of gold coins as he did in the original Ducktales. As brief as it might be, it will definitely have many fans smiling in an instant. Simply put, it’s a familiar animated scene brought to live-action more smoothly than expected.

Considering both Ducktales and Chip N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers were both part of Disney’s lineup of ’90s cartoons, it could mean Scrooge will be interacting a bit with Chip and Dale. From the sounds of his familiar laughter, David Tennant might be reprising his role for the occasion as well.

Aladdin

While this might be a bit of a grasp, it’s clear that someone is wearing Aladdin’s Prince Ali gear and flying on his magic carpet. That being said, it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that Aladdin himself would make a proper appearance. Especially seeing as how his movie was one of the most popular Disney features in the ’90s

Since his movie was such a product of the era, largely thanks to the musical contributions of Alan Menken and the pop-culture riffing of Robin Williams, it makes sense to include Aladdin or one of his fellow animated cast members would have a cameo amongst the other stars. Either way, someone’s being shown a whole new world.

Members Of My Little Pony

This may or may not cause a few viewers to cringe, but the image of Chip and Dale riding on the backs of the cast of My Little Pony will undoubtedly grab some attention. It’s definitely not a property most viewers would expect Disney to mingle with, but there’s no denying that the series has an enormous fanbase.

As of now, it’s unknown what purpose the animated equines serve other than providing what looks like an escape for Chip and Dale during a comic convention, but there’s still time to speculate before the movie premieres on Disney+. Until then, it’s anyone’s guess.

Cats From Cats

When a studio pokes fun at its own beloved films and franchises, it’s funny. But when they openly mock their biggest blunders, it’s hysterical. In a scene that is clearly and deliberately calling out the uncanny valley nature of bad CGI animation, Chip and Dale have a brief run-in with some familiar felines.

Sometimes there is such a thing as too much CGI, and there are few better examples than the hideous visuals from Cats. No amount of even Disney’s magic could make the film’s human-like cats look pleasant, and even the house of mouse knows it. As demonstrated by the pair of CGI alley cats tussling in the streets, it seems despise for the movie is felt across animation studios.
