Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) has been in theaters for a few weeks and while it has found favor with most critics, its box office numbers haven’t been up to snuff. It is a shame, too. The film is brimming with compelling characters, high-quality action, and morbid laugh out loud humor.

One could blame the R-rating, but that did not stop Joker from becoming one of the most successful movies of the year. Perhaps the following ten memes can help raise the film’s profile and get more people out to theaters in support. However hard one may laugh at these jokes, we guarantee the film has ten times as many thrills.

9 That’s One Way To Shut People Up

People take spoilers seriously. Fans go through such extremes like media blackouts, plugging their ears when friends start talking, and even refusing to watch trailers. One could argue if they were such a fan they would see the movie on day one, but life gets in the way and sometimes our favorite stories have to wait.

Anybody thinking about letting their lips loose with some spoilers should consider those around them, lest they suffer the wrath of Harley Quinn’s beanbag gun.

8 Ewan McGregor

Ewan McGregor is a such a talented thespian, he is often seen as a highlight even by those who bemoan the prequel Star Wars trilogy.

He is so beloved, even Chancellor Palpatine, who has every reason to hate the actor for his role in the galaxy far, far away, was excited to hear the news of his casting in Birds of Prey. Maybe the evil Sith Lord is excited to see the actor play a villain for once. By all accounts, the Scottish actor did a solid job.

7 Dreams Do Come True

One major complaint of Suicide Squad and its trailers was the way it depicted Harley Quinn. When Birds of Prey was announced, Margot Robbie promised her character wouldn’t be needlessly sexualized.

Upon the first trailer’s release, fans were relieved to see the actress was true to her word. Their emotion was comparable to James Corden doing carpool karaoke with his favorite musicians and songwriters.

6 Long Names

Further proving this meme’s point, the writer doesn’t even include the full title of the movie. It is actually Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn). To be fair to the Harry Potter franchise, it wasn’t the first film to have super long titles. Shawn and Marlon Wayans wrote and starred in the parody film Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood.

Whatever the case, anybody writing a pesky essay for school or university is best advised to include references to all of these films in order to fulfill those daunting word counts.

5 Wait No Longer

We all know how it feels to anxiously wait for an upcoming film. The anticipation is nearly unbearable. At least for cinephiles release dates rarely change or at least move only by a couple of weeks. Video game lovers sometimes endure delays of up to six months when the original release date is just a few weeks away.

In both cases one has to understand; the creators set the release date knowing it is all the time they need to get it done as good as possible. An earlier release date would make for an inferior product.

4 What Else Can The Studio Do?

A film’s success, or lack thereof, at the box office rides on numerous factors. It is hard to say exactly why Birds of Prey is not doing well. Was it the R-rating versus its target demographic, the release date, or the marketing campaign?

While this meme blames the studio for not doing enough to help the movie reach a wider audience, what more can they do? It is audiences who ultimately must go to the theater and pay the money, and a studio cannot directly force people into seats.

3 We’re All Harley Quinn Here

Everybody can relate to this meme. We put on different faces depending on our present company, but deep down we just want to sit down on a couch in our pajamas and chug some Cheez Whiz. This is why we probably shouldn’t isolate ourselves for too long.

There’s nothing wrong with some along time every now and then, but repeating this routine every day is an unhealthy habit.

2 We All Have Our Reasons For Being Excited

Everybody has their own reason to be excited for a particular movie. This meme argues that girls are looking forward to seeing Harley Quinn and her cohorts while the boys are hyped for Ewan Mcgregor as Black Mask. As funny as this is – and its humor is elevated by the accompanying picture – plenty of boys were probably in from day one just for the idea of a Harley Quinn movie. Additionally, plenty of girls were down to see McGregor play the villain.

At the end of the day, it is a positive thing to be excited for any movie, regardless of the exact reason.

1 Best Friends

The great thing about having true friends is the ability to let one’s guard down in front of them. It doesn’t always happen right away, but there comes a moment when a friendship reaches a new level and one realizes they can start showing their true colors, as the above meme shows.

Once the barrier does come down, the fun finally starts. It can backfire and the friend may be scared away, however. If that happens, one has to wonder if the person was ever a friend in the first place.
