Since the day A New Hope first premiered in theaters way back in the ’70s, fans have dreamed of becoming a part of the galaxy far, far away. With the introduction of the video game medium, that wish was soon fulfilled, even if only for a short amount of time. But while the days of Ataris and minimalist 8-bit graphics are over, there have been several games that try to capture a slice of the space opera.

Of course, Nintendo has never been a stranger to Star Wars, and the Switch has a collection of games new and old for gamers of any generation to enjoy. With a healthy handful of titles and more on the way, the Force is definitely strong with this one.

Star Wars Pinball

At this point, everyone from Elton John to Angry Birds has had some form of pinball machine or video game. Naturally, Star Wars is no different. Although the gameplay itself is pretty standard, especially if players have any sort of pinball experience, the amount of content available will satisfy the most die-hard of Star Wars fans.

There are 19 interactive tables for players to enjoy, each covering all the core movies, TV shows, spinoff films, and even individual characters and themes. It might not be the deepest game, but it will certainly win some over with little effort.

Star Wars Episode I Racer

To take a quote from Anakin Skywalker, “Now this is pod-racing.” While this relic of the N64/PS1 era might be somewhat visually dated, the arcadey action and exhilarating nature of the game remain intact. If Mario Kart has grown stale for some Switch-owners, this return to Tatooine could be a breath of fresh air to seasoned racers across the galaxy.

The game is a bit more complex than the average racing title, as players will have to keep their pods repaired and in fighting condition as the courses and competition get harder. If fans are looking to try something outside of Jedi and X-Wings, this is a good place to start.

Star Wars Republic Commando

When most fans think of a Star Wars game, the image of a dark and gritty first-person tactical shooter isn’t really the first thing that comes to mind. Exchanging lightsabers for blasters and other automatic weapons, this game became a very popular title when it was released back in the 2000s.

There’s a slight element of Halo and Metroid Prime with this shooter as players are cast as commando troopers on a mission to neutralize Separatist targets and senators across the galaxy. Armed with a variety of guns and grenades, would-be heroes will have to fight their way through various threats in order to make it out alive in this surprisingly heavy title.

Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Of course, there’s no point in picking up a Star Wars title if players can’t get their hands on a lightsaber at some point. Enter the Jedi Knight series that casts gamers in the role of their own student of the Force. While the controls can be a little chaotic at times, there’s no denying that there’s still fun to be had in this remastered title.

Players will create their own character, customize their own lightsaber, and learn the ways of the Force from Luke Skywalker himself in this action-adventure title. Essentially jumping through the typical Jedi hoops, it’s a solid entry for those wanting the Force-focused experience.

Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

Taking place prior to the events of the previous title, Jedi Outcast is a separate adventure starring Kyle Katarn, a Jedi of the New Republic who must battle against a new wave of darkness that threatens the galaxy. While it’s not the big hit that Fallen Order would be, it’s an action classic that longtime fans of the series will recognize.

The Star Wars series is a near-perfect breeding ground for action-adventure titles, and violently slashing through enemies with a lightsaber is always a satisfying experience. For players looking for a new chapter in the saga, they wouldn’t be wrong for giving this one a try.

Star Wars: Hunters (Coming 2022)

Although little is known about this upcoming team-based shooter, one thing that can easily be said is that it makes great use of the worlds of the Star Wars universe. The trailers have displayed a colorful cast of characters ranging from Jedi to bounty hunters and more engaged in 4-on-4 combat across various familiar environments.

While limited is known at this point, fans of the Star Wars galaxy can expect an action-packed multiplayer experience. Variety seems to be the name of the game here, and hopefully, players can plan on multiple ways to come out on top in this battle royale.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Coming April 20, 2022)

Easily one of the biggest fan-favorites out of the franchise’s action games, The Force Unleashed was a mature, action-heavy title that put players in the shoes of a Sith apprentice under the instruction of Darth Vader himself. Exploring the complexities of the Dark Side of the Force, the game opened a new chapter in the Star Wars mythos.

As Galen Malek (alias, Starkiller), players see things from the Sith’s point of view as they assassinate surviving Jedi, attack Rebel forces, and unleash waves of chaos as they uncover sinister secrets and other revelations in this incredible story. True fans of the series will wishlist this title immediately.

Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic

Set before the events of the saga fans know from the film series, Knights of the Old Republic is an incredibly rich RPG that has cultivated a massive fan following since its first release. Now that it’s come to the Nintendo Switch, a whole new set of fans can embark on a grand adventure across the galaxy.

With so much to see, explore, and customize, there is so much material for Star Wars fans to enjoy. While the game might have a few visual hiccups in handheld mode, it’s still a chapter of the saga any fan of the series will positively devour.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (Coming April 5, 2022)

The Lego games are always a bundle of fun and a barrel of laughs, no matter what franchise gets the brickified treatment. Blending the excitement of Star Wars with the fun of Lego is a cocktail of different elements that work surprisingly well together.

The upcoming game is essentially a complete overhaul of the series seen in the late 2000s, mixing in brand new elements with the classic gameplay and stories of the originals. Covering the entirety of the core series from The Phantom Menace to The Rise of Skywalker, the new game promises a huge dose of fun and fanservice.
