Despite fan backlash, Akinyi Obala from 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 3 is returning her new dog after the dog bit someone. Akinyi and her husband, Benjamin Taylor, got married in Phoenix, Arizona, in April 2021. After Benjamin struggled to earn the approval of her father and brother, and was initially unable to pay the bride price the family wanted for Akinyi, the couple was able to get married in Kenya in 2018. They had to wait three more years for Akinyi to be able to join her husband in the United States and get married in Arizona because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Benjamin, a 33-year-old divorced single father, wasn’t having much luck with dating in Phoenix, so he expanded his range on a dating app and was able to match with 26-year-old 90 DayFiancé star in Nairobi, Kenya. The pair connected over their Christian faith and got married in Kenya. In 2020, they appeared on 90 Day Fiancé: Self Quarantined, where they discussed being in a long-distance marriage because of the pandemic. They now live together in Phoenix with Benjamin’s son, Grayson. They couple just got a dog, Nina, but they are returning the dog because of a biting incident.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Recently, Akinyi took to Instagram to say that dog-loving 90 Day Fiancé fans have been “abusing [her] in direct messages” after she revealed she and Benjamin are planning to return their new dog, Nina, when Nina bit a stranger and then bit Akinyi. The 90 Day Fiancé alum explained that the stranger didn’t press charges, but she didn’t feel safe having a biting dog in the house living with Grayson. She said people were accusing her of not caring about the dog but maintained that this was not the case. The child always comes first,” Akinyi said. “It doesn’t matter whether I love the dog or not.”

The graphic designer shared that she used to have two dogs back in Kenya and that it was hard for her to make the decision to return the dog. She also asked her accusers if they would “help her pay for the suing” if the dog happened to bite someone else and that bite victim decided to sue her. The new step-mother expressed that she can’t tell Grayson to go to his room and “not come out” every time she has to go to the bathroom because she doesn’t know what the dog might do if left alone with the child. Akinyi also said she is fed up with the “heartless” messages and invited concerned DMers to take the dog and train her themselves if they were so concerned for the dog’s well-being.

Along with the video, the 90 Day Fiancé star also shared a photo of the deep bite that Nina gave to a stranger, and it looked really bad. She didn’t speak to the severity of the bite that the dog gave her. It is unclear where exactly the Before the 90 Days season 3 couple is sending the dog back to–perhaps the shelter. Akinyi’s point about why they can’t keep a biting dog around a child makes sense. Maybe some fans of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days that have children will understand her reasoning.
