Many 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? cast members have been called out for their bad behavior, but Brandon Gibbs’ parents Betty and Ron have still retained their title of franchise villains. Unlike many of the main cast couples depicted on the show, Betty and Ron appear to have a strong marriage. However, the older couple is being called out for manipulating their son and constantly being against their daughter-in-law Julia Trubkina since they first appeared in the franchise on season 8 of 90 Day Fiancé.

Betty and Ron became quick franchise villains due to the overbearing way they interfered with their son’s life. The older couple were uncomfortably involved in Brandon’s life and tried to force Julia to abide by their rules. Even though Brandon and Julia have finally moved off the family farm and into their own apartment in Richmond, Virginia, relations have unfortunately not improved. The older couple was unsupportive of their son wanting to live independently, despite the fact that he is nearly 30. Many viewers felt the parents were holding Brandon back in life.

Ron and Betty saw their reputations soften a little when Julia admitted she had chosen to do farm work and hadn’t been forced into it, as she initially portrayed. However, many viewers still have a sour opinion of the older couple. Some viewers took to the r/90dayfianceuncensored Reddit to discuss how manipulative Betty and Ron are. The couple has been repeatedly accused of trying to manipulate Brandon against Julia so that he would remain on the family farm. Many viewers have difficulty trusting Brandon’s parents and find them to be uncomfortably hostile, as they appear to always want Brandon to turn on his wife and choose them. “Their smiles here are like a show of aggression,” one viewer noted.

Some viewers voiced that the entire family could use some help to overcome their issues, given the pervasive tension between Julia and her in-laws and the uncomfortable grip the older couple has on Brandon. “The 4 of them all need space and therapy,” one commenter suggested. “Ron scares me. The way he gets when he gets angry…it’s like he loses control,” another fan voiced. Though Betty and Ron offered to pay a downpayment on a home next to the farm for Brandon and Julia, Julia made it clear that she wants nothing to do with her in-laws. Some viewers think her dislike of Brandon’s parents and their farm could spell the end of her relationship with Brandon since he loves being on the farm.

While Betty and Ron have been blasted for blaming Julia for issues and refusing to accept Brandon’s independence with his wife, Julia has also received a cold franchise fan reception. The Russian dancer shocked audiences with her seemingly cold reaction to Ron’s health struggles that were revealed during the Happily Ever After? Tell-All. Viewers may not generally like Ron and Betty, but many are rooting for Ron to make a full recovery and they sympathize with Brandon’s heartbreak over his father’s issues. Overall, many viewers think the entire family needs to exit the spotlight and focus on their relationships outside of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? or any other franchise content.
