Cassia Tavares, the former wife of unvaccinated 90 Day Fiancé season 2 star Jason Hitch, who died from COVID-19 complications on Tuesday night, shared a heartbreaking message on Instagram. Brazilian woman Cassia, aka Rita, was 23 when she married Jason, 38, a U.S. Army veteran from Spring Hill, Florida. Cassia previously dated Jason’s friend online before they began a relationship that saw two divorces. After finally ending her marriage with Jason in October 2018, Cassia alluded that 90 Day Fiancé is scripted. She graduated from the University of South Florida and is now married to her Italian boyfriend, Giuseppe.

The 15-year gap between Cassia and Jason was concerning to fans during 90 Day Fiancé season 2–and so was the late Jason being arrested in January 2017 for domestic battery. This was after Cassia reportedly moved out of his house but was visiting Jason as they tried to remain cordial and friendly. The couple decided to go for therapy, and the case was later dismissed. However, a year later, Cassia confirmed the split. Back then, Jason defended Cassia by saying she didn’t marry him to become an American citizen and that he thought they would remain friends. The news of 45-year-old Jason’s death in a Florida hospital was confirmed by sister Sharon. The man did not suffer from pre-existing conditions, but 90 Day Fiancé fans noticed Jason had been anti-mask and anti-vaccine on his Instagram posts.

Meanwhile, Cassia doesn’t seem to be very active on Instagram, as her last post was from May this year, documenting her travels to Rome. However, Cassia did share a note for her 90 Day Fiancé ex-husband shortly after the announcement. “It’s always sad when someone you spent part of your life with stops breathing,” Cassia wrote. “I guess one could never be prepared for that,” she added. “I wasn’t today,” admitted Cassia, who married personal trailer Giuseppe on February 12.

According to Cassia, when she first found out that Jason died, she mistook it for a joke. “When I started receiving messages, I thought it was a joke. I’m shocked,” Cassia continued. “My condolences to his family and friends. Rest in Peace, Jason,” said 90 Day Fiancé fan-favorite Cassia in conclusion before also adding a translation of the note in Portuguese. A post on Reddit by BazF91 discussed Cassia’s response to her ex-husband’s untimely demise. TLC viewers noted that Cassia’s message was classy, and how it’s sad that she had to lose someone she was married to, even though their marriage didn’t end well.

In October last year, Cassia revealed her thoughts on the 90 Day Fiancé filming process. According to her, the couples on the show are “100% real,” but there are times when scenarios are created to maximize the drama between them. She revealed that the producers had apparently asked Cassia to take a pregnancy test on camera, though they were aware of her not being pregnant. Regardless, it’s unlikely that Cassia plans to return to 90 Day Fiancé in the future as she’s now living a happier life with her new husband away from the cameras and supposedly scripted storylines.
