David Murphey is known for pursuing Ukrainian beauty Svetlana “Lana” on 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days, and the American just announced that he applied to fight for Ukraine following Russian President Vladimir Putin invading the country. Though David tried to visit the beauty multiple times, Lana always ghosted him. TLC helped David finally track down Lana and meet her for the first time and 90 Day Fiancé viewers were shocked to discover that Lana was a real person, as she was previously thought to be a catfish using David for money. Though Lana and David broke up, many viewers believe David still has feelings for Lana. However, he will be fighting for the Ukrainian people for multiple reasons.

Though David is a successful computer programmer, he revealed that he does have a military background. “I’m prepared to fight, but I don’t know if that’s exactly how they’ll use me. David said that though he is willing to fight for Lana and the Ukrainian people, his technical skills will probably be used for a different kind of assistance. He added that he has drone flying experience that he would love to use, though he said such a position was unlikely to occur. In regards to Lana, David said that he talks to her as a friend every day or other day to check in with her though he will not likely see her while he is in Ukraine. David told his followers that Ukraine is like a second home to him, as he spent 18 months there over the past two decades. Therefore, it is important for him to be there to fight for the Ukrainian people, as he doesn’t think the war will have a quick conclusion.

Many franchise fans were surprised by David’s announcement, though viewers are praising him for his bravery and conviction to fight for a country he only has secondhand ties to. Previously, Before The 90 Days cast member Tom Brooks alluded to wanting to join the army and help the Ukrainian people, but he quickly backed out when he was asked to actually do so. David has left many viewers surprised with his selflessness, as he will be leaving behind a comfortable life to fight to protect the Ukrainian people if they accept his application. David’s announcement might have even changed the way many 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days viewers see the American man.
