90 Day Fiance: Fans Are Dreading Watching Tarik Help Hazel Find A Girlfriend

Some 90 Day Fiancé fans are dreading having to watch Tarik help Hazel find a girlfriend. As most TLC viewers know, the single dad’s Filipino bride-to-bride announced that she’s attracted to women. There are people who think that the couple’s storyline has shifted into a polyamorous nightmare. Tarik and Hazel have already explored dating the same woman. Now, it’s become evident that Tarik might be a little more excited about his future wife’s interest in women and “throuples” than he should be.

Tarik’s debut on the long-running reality show 90 Day Fiancé began with him extolling the virtues of Asian culture. He spoke openly about his love of travel and then happened to mention his love of Asian women. Over time, much of aspiring rapper Tarik Myers’ storyline has centered around his seemingly exclusive interest in dating Asian women, as well as his frequent recreational trips to a number of Asian nations.

A recent Reddit feed highlights many of the concerned (and disgusted) comments about Tarik’s behavior on the show:

“Tarik seems to fetishize the h*ll out of very young Asian women from countries that happen to be hotspots for sex-tourism … Hazel seems physically repulsed by him and I feel like she is using her “bisexual awakening” as an excuse to find a girlfriend/buffer that will take some of the pressure off of her and her “wifely duties” to Tarik.”

The manner in which Tarik speaks about Hazel on 90 Day Fiancé has often made her seem more like an inanimate object than a person with three-dimensional interests. After learning that she found his acquaintance Minty attractive, Tarik used this as an opportunity to date both of them. He could have just allowed Hazel to explore the relationship on her own, but he didn’t. That led to feelings of jealousy and inadequacy on Hazel’s part. Now that he’s decided to step in and assist Hazel with finding a woman, it feels more like he’s commandeering her sexual expression and using it for his own ill-gotten gains.

More than likely, real estate agent Tarik will railroad Hazel into dating Asian women that he finds physically and sexually appealing, as opposed to letting her choose partners based on her own criteria. After all, she might find different cultures and body types appealing that he might not be equally drawn to, and place pressure on her to defer to his desires.

Tarik seems to harbor a fetish involving two women together sexually. Also, the allure of a fiancée who is open to dating women provides Tarik with ample opportunities to fool around. However, this a storyline that the largely Middle America-based TLC viewership may be too traditional to embrace. Regardless, Tarik and the mother of one Hazel from 90 Day Fiancé represent the changing landscape of American and international relationships. Hazel’s sexual fluidity is a teachable moment for a lot of people who have no experience with unions that aren’t heteronormative. Is Tarik a little creepy for appropriating Hazel’s sexuality for his own pleasure? Yep. However, it sure does make for good television.
