Though there’s no way to know for sure, there are several indications that Mahogany is not just some girl from Peru that Ben met online. If Mahogany is an actress, however, then basically everything about Ben’s storyline was completely manufactured by the production team.

Fans spent the entirety of season 5 of the popular 90 Day Fiancé spin-off convinced that Mahogany was a catfish scammer that Ben fell for. When he traveled to Peru and she didn’t pick him up at the airport, viewers were convinced that it was proof that Mahogany was fake. Alas, during the latest episode of Before The 90 Days, Ben actually met Mahogany face-to-face. After sitting alone in a cafe for hours, Mahogany finally showed up and Ben was overjoyed. Mahogany was apprehensive and confessed that Ben didn’t look the way she expected, and she felt he was much more invested in their relationship than she was. Nonetheless, Ben was excited and believed that great things were ahead for him and Mahogany.

Even though Ben appeared to be happy, viewers got weird vibes from Mahogany and felt like she wasn’t genuine. Something about the way she spoke and acted came off as rehearsed, so fans started a Reddit thread to comment that Mahogany seems like a Telenovela actress. Part of it had to do with the fact that her hair, makeup, and clothes were a little too perfect, and she appeared to be professionally styled. However, many viewers latched on to her speech. Fans from South America also claimed that Mahogany’s Spanish accent didn’t match the region she is supposed to be from, and she spoke perfect English as well.

The “Mahogany is an actress” speculation also supports suspicions that Ben and Mahogany’s storyline is completely fake. Some fans on Reddit proposed that Ben may have actually gotten catfished, but that producers tracked down the woman from the photos that the catfish was using and cast her on season 5 as Mahogany. Ben has revealed that he was approached by producers to be on the show rather than the other way around, so it’s very possible that everything about his storyline was manufactured. Overall, things with Ben and Mahogany don’t appear to be on the up and up, and Mahogany being a producer plant would explain a lot.

The season isn’t over yet, so maybe more information will come out about Mahogany that will prove she isn’t an actress. But for now, many fans are convinced that Mahogany is someone the producers hired to spice up this season of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. It wouldn’t be a huge stretch to believe Mahogany is a plant, but it would signal that the franchise has jumped the shark in terms of scripted content.
