90 Day Fiancé alum Geoffrey Paschel was sentenced Thursday to 18 years in prison for crimes he committed in 2019. According to an October post from the Knox County District Attorney’s office, he was convicted of aggravated kidnapping, domestic assault, and interference with emergency calls. Geoffrey, who is also an actor (oftentimes in crime shows), became a reality star when he pursued his long-distance romance with Russian girlfriend Varya Malina. Varya ended up moving to the United States and has shown steadfast support for Geoffrey during the course of his legal troubles.

Geoffrey was already facing charges related to this conviction prior to his debut on season 4 of the franchise. When asked why he chose to participate despite the scrutiny his looming court battle would surely result in, he took to Instagram to respond, saying in part, “Well, guys, it is MY past. It is MY life. It is MY choice. If we were all the same: thought the same, looked the same, or acted the same, how lame would that be?” He also proclaimed his innocence to The Sun saying, “I can assure you, if any of these fables were true, I would bow out and accept responsibility.” Many fans called for Geoffrey’s dismissal from the show.

In Touch reports that the reality star has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for his assault on former fiancée Kristen Wilson. The D.A.’s report detailed the incident: Paschel grabbed the victim by the neck and slammed her head against the wall several times. She was also thrown to the ground and dragged. Paschel took the victim’s cell phone and did not allow her to leave the residence. The victim fled to a neighbor’s house after Paschel fell asleep. Wilson described the experience in her own graphic terms, “He dragged me through the house by my hair and continued throwing my body into walls and furniture. I know this because of blood on my walls, furniture, etc.

Geoffrey, who admitted to Varya that he had some drug-related legal issues in the past, took the stand in his own defense, claiming that both he and Wilson were intoxicated at the time and that she had inflicted the wounds on herself. Prior to the trial’s start, he had claimed that he was “100% categorically innocent.” The jury didn’t believe his version of events and he was found guilty. Geoffrey was reportedly tearful as he plead for a more lenient sentence. Varya, whose latest Instagram post has her cheerfully picking out Geoffrey’s outfit for sentencing, was dragged by some viewers for making light of the situation.

Intimate partner violence is never acceptable and Geoffrey is learning firsthand the consequences of this behavior. Unfortunately, it looks as though he’s not going to take any responsibility for his actions. With her love interest facing 18 years behind bars, fans are eager to learn if Varya’s commitment to her 90 Day Fiancé will stand the test of time or if she’ll decide to move on.
