Current star of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? and fan favorite Kalani Faagata recently demonstrated that she doesn’t take unfair criticism lying down. Kalani shared a DM from a seriously-misguided fan along with her snappy response, and it was a master class in sass. This isn’t the first time Kalani has been criticized for her body, and unfortunately it probably won’t be the last. But with her wit and confidence she’s got the right tools for deflecting hate.

Kalani’s relationship with husband Asuelu Pulaa has been difficult from the start, but on this season of Happily Ever After? there’s been even more turbulence in their marriage. The couple seemed to be getting closer after a romantic weekend getaway where they opened up to each other. However, since then, Asuelu has made Kalani upset by talking about wanting more children at inappropriate times. Many fans are critical of their relationship, but as Kalani recently proved on Instagram, there are several who are taking shots at her appearance as well.

Kalani received a DM from a fan who had no hesitation body shaming her. The “56 year old father of two daughters” said, “please please stop showing your breast so much. Men who watch the show can not focus on anything other than your two huge melons. Enough with the bulging melons please.” It’s obvious that the fan should have kept such thoughts to himself, and Kalani shot back, “men like you have issues way bigger than my ‘breast.’ Tell your daughters I’m sorry they didn‘t end up with a dad like mine. Best, Kalani ‘Bulging Melons’ Faagata.”

It’s understandable that Kalani would be upset at the message—it was a completely unsolicited and inappropriate comment about her body. Kalani has dealt with racism over her Samoan heritage before, and now she’s dealing with body shamers as well. Kalani doesn’t have control over the size of her breasts, save for expensive and potentially dangerous breast reduction surgery, and finding clothes to fully cover them can be difficult, not to mention unnecessary. If the fan has trouble focusing when Kalani’s breasts are on screen, that’s really more his problem than Kalani’s.

The 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After star gets a lot of flack from fans, and though viewers can sometimes make fair points about Kalani’s behavior or decisions, criticism of her body is completely uncalled for. Thankfully, Kalani seems to have developed a thick skin and confidence about who she is, how she looks, and what she deserves. Fans like the one who DM’d Kalani need to learn to judge actions, not appearance, and if they can’t, they should keep their opinions to themselves.
